Fans vent frustration after Rotherham United suffer a setback as a managerial appointment deal falls through as pre-season preparations near.
The Millers’ search for a new head coach goes on having missed out on Ian Burchnall who has reportedly turned down a deal to join the recently relegated club.
Last week, head of football Steve McClaren believed Burchnall was to be announced this week, but according to Rotherham Advertiser, the League Two side weren’t able to reach a financial agreement, with Ian now looking at other interest.
Training returns later this month, new players are needed due to the mass exodus, and now Rotherham are having to consider other managerial candidates.
Lee Clark was appointed manager of Rotherham until the end of the 2025–26 season, but was left in the dark about where he had a future at the club, and then failed to agree a new deal, leaving and since becoming Hartlepool’s new manager. More on that HERE.
78 days since Matt Hamshaw’s departure and 33 days since Lee Clark’s final game in temporary charge, Rotherham United are still looking for their next Head Coach #RUFC https://t.co/h2vQxZgldc

As mentioned, fans vent frustration after Rotherham suffer a setback as the managerial appointment falls through…
@CornyRUFC: This club is a fucking joke #rufc
@AndyWillert: Just couldn’t make this shit up what the hell are we playing at, this is a professional club with 7/9 players on its books and 3 weeks away from preseason training wtf 😳, still be sure to have a leap of faith and get those season tickets paid for! Absolute shit show
@RUFCgaz: I said it when McClaren first came through the door that on paper, he is what we have been missing, but his role relies on TS putting up the funds for things he wants to do. He’ll walk before the season starts, when TS is only willing to pay National League wages #rufc
@MadMillerMan: This is an absolute disgrace, if we can’t afford Burchnall we are well and truly in the shit. People asking for Robinson are dreaming it’s beyond a joke. I’m not fussed that we won’t be bringing him it but the fact that it’s not our choice just shows how far we’ve sunk #rufc
@CraigyBoyBes: Good news in my eyes. Burchnall in no way a good fit for us. On the downside we probably havent had any backup options in mind so no manager anytime soon. Shambles from top to bottom #rufc
@fut_trader_D: I ask again, why on earth did we create an expensive role that most of the 92 professional teams don’t have, if we’re already skint. Hint – it rhymes with ‘reason crickets’. At least the last 2 years has prepared us for yet more disappointment, nobody’s shocked.
@smith98_josh: Didn’t want Burchnall anyway, but the fact we’re already 2/3 weeks behind the majority of clubs and have lost out on a manager isn’t great. This club is in a serious mess and will only get worse. Remember Lee Clark’s words… At least club shops had a lick of paint tho… #rufc
@RUFCLuke: #rufc some very dark years ahead of us lads
@aka_manicmiller: Here we go again, last week McClaren said it would be this week, Paul Davies thought it important enough to break his holiday to tell us it wouldn’t be 🫣 There’s always a constant in these events though – the silence from the club. As a result more rumor, more conjecture. #rufc
@rufcmiller89: Lost our first choice manager (says alot that this guy was our first choice) because we can’t afford him. Tight Tony is gonna ruin this club and we’re gonna end up in National League. We’re an absolute joke trying to do things cheaply and now more than a month behind #rufc
@__IrufcI__: Tbh as much of a shit show as it is, what a blessing not being able to agree terms with Burchnall is. This appointment from now on should be easiest we’ve ever done. Fucked about and found out, give Darren Ferguson a call and Karl Robinson and find out what they want. Get McLaren on at them see who’d suit best and give them what they want, time for messing about long gone. #rufc
@sammyhad1986: Shows a lot when we can’t “agree terms”with a head coach no one was really bothered about or knew a lot about. We are so far behind and looks like we’ve feck all money or the owner unwilling to
Put the money in – utter joke #rufc
@rufcmiller89: Up them National League Millers eh #rufc
@miller83862: The fact we can’t ‘reach a financial agreement’ with a bloke who’s only EFL experience was a 5 month spell with Forest Green shows Stewart is trying to do it on the cheap again. PLEASE FUCK OFF. Make sure you buy your season tickets though #rufc
