Middlesbrough have been slammed by fans for ‘scandalous’ season ticket prices that have been set for the 2024/25 season.
The club were met with backlash after publishing details the Early Bird Season Ticket, criticism they received related to the cost and the deadline to purchase.
There is a price increase with kids up by £20, adults up £30 and over 65s have gone up £40, leaving fans disappointed and struggling to fork out the amount.
They currently sit 12th in the Championship with 41 points from 30 games played, and 6 points from the playoff places.
Think I’ll pass to be fair. £735 for probably championship football is a fucking joke https://t.co/r7Ayb8F8zd pic.twitter.com/C8oxKzRHif

Boro said on Monday the 12th of February 2024: “Early Bird Season Tickets are now available to purchase for 2024/25.
“Buying a Season Ticket is cheaper than purchasing tickets on a match-by-match basis, and offers benefits including Priority Points for in-demand away and cup fixtures, as well as your seat reserved for the season.
“Early Bird renewal and new applicant prices are only available until the deadline of 5pm on Friday 15 March, so buy now to secure your seat for the new campaign.”
However, after backlash, the club then posted a day later: “In response to concerns expressed by a number of our supporter groups, including Rob Nichols of Fly Me To The Moon, we have reviewed our Early Bird Season Ticket deadline, and opted to extend by a further 15 days, up to and including Saturday 30 March.
“This now gives fans an extended seven-week opportunity to renew or purchase new at our Early Bird prices.
“Also in response to further discussions with supporter groups, it’s worth noting that the percentage increase on Season Tickets will be largely offset by the increase the club faces in both the National Minimum Wage and in Business Rates.

Fans however are still unhappy with the prices, and continued urging the club to make the ticket prices more affordable.

As mentioned, Middlesbrough have been slammed by fans for ‘scandalous’ season ticket prices for the 2024/25 season…
@DarboEatsParmo: £30 increase 🤨 Those fans who purchased tickets this season have seen more losses than all but two teams, very few goals, our best players sold, half the season written off and zero ambition in January. Some of the most expensive ST prices in the league going up. Shameful @Boro
@NRayner7
– More losses than wins at home.
– 17 goals scored at home in 16 games.
– Absolutely thrown the towel in January whilst a couple of points off the top 6…
=
1 month to pay with a ludicrous price increase.
So out of touch with reality.
#Boro | #UTB
@_mstephenson88: £510 as an early bird renewal is the cheapest ticket at the riverside next season. Mental.
@Chris_BoroUTB: Not sure where to even start with this one. I’ll renew mine and the daughter’s ticket, because I’m fortunate enough to be able to afford to. For some that won’t be the case, not helped by the renewal date. Those who are paid monthly have 1 pay day to get the money together.
The EB renewal just keeps getting earlier:
24/25 – 15th March
23/24 – 31st March
22/23 – 15th April
21/22 – Rolled over (Covid)
20/21 – 9th April
Think the club could at least move the EB deadline to the end of the March to give people a fighting chance. After the January window & recent results this couldn’t have come at a worse time. The club has regressed in every way since last season, we don’t even have a centre forward in the match day squad and supporters are being asked to pay more for next season and earlier. There’s no marketing campaign, no reason as to why we should be committing more money having written off the season, no rallying call, no declaration of intent, let alone commitment. No thanks or acknowledgement of current support. Basically this is the price. Your call.
@thecuttybang: Imagine going to a concert and they unplug their gear halfway through the set and just start shouting to the audience to buy tickets for their next show through megaphones! #Boro
@Jamie270: Can be up to £735 for a season ticket at Boro. City sell their cheapest at £490. Liverpool sell their cheapest at £699. What an absolute shambles that is.
@thomascronin_: ‘I’m a fan before anything else’ – Actually Steve would you pay £510 for your club to throw in the the towel in January Embarrassing
@boro_memories: Sometimes our club is an embarrassment. A price hike, a month to find the money and all this two days after that stinker on Saturday
@andybroomeBWFC: Some of those prices are scandalous. £735 for an adult ticket for Championship footy in a proud, traditionally working class, football mad town. So out of touch. Example 6253728 of why we’re so lucky to be ran as well as we are. Sharon Brittan and co just get it. #bwfc
@alexcmfc: We finally have a significantly better average attendance and the club puts it in jeopardy by raising prices like this, what benefit does this have?
@GraemeBailey: Why should a 10 year old pay the same as a 17 year old?…that really annoys me These prices for an average Championship club are way off. Horrible look for the club. One of the poorest town’s in the UK but the club are simply not recognising this fact.
@jackbodd23: Any sort of communication from Mr Gibson on our ambitions moving forward before we pay yet another price increase?
@CharlieStorUTB: Absolutely shocking prices these for a Championship club. Our support has been leaps and bounds ever since the early to mid 2010s and yet if prices keep rising and we don’t see any promotion soon we’re going to head right back to there.
@jackbodd23: The deadline is also a disgrace, giving people just one pay day to find the money, so out of touch with the people of the area.
@SteHatfield: Out of touch as per. Family of 4, here’s your early bird, we’re putting prices up and want your money in 4 weeks….🤬
@bartrumus1986: Utterly tone deaf. One of the poorest areas in the country, Akpom, Spence & Rogers money not reinvested in playing staff and a 6% increase in SC prices. Massive own goal. Again.
@JayShaw180: Absolutely disgusting prices. If the club showed a bit of ambition then just maybe they could be justified, but as it is it’s an insult.
@JamesPoole10: Unbelievable short sighted decision. I think a significant few may say enough is enough. The club has showed little to no ambition over a long period of time & then hikes the prices up. £836 for me & my son who is 18 & still at college. I guess everyone can say yay or nay.
@mhndly: Will probably be there, but posting this out after tanking any buzz around this season in the transfer market recently, and that insipid, absolute car crash of a performance on Saturday, and a price increase as well, is a really weird choice guys.
@jenboro1: What on earth are you doing? Another increase and a much shorter deadline to pay it. Just when it’s becoming a chore to attend home games again. Read the room!!!
