Matt Le Tissier hits out at the sacking decision by Sky Sports as he explains more on being ‘cancelled’ by the broadcaster.
He made headlines across the world for his controversial views about the Covid pandemic and shared conspiracy theories on social media regarding the war in Ukraine.
Le Tissier, speaking recently on William Hill’s Up Front With Simon Jordan show. said that he was fired from Sky because of his opinions among many other things, as you can see below…
He said: ‘What drove the changes? Once Comcast had bought Sky, it changed overnight. All of sudden, it was diversity and inclusion and all that stuff. I guess we kind of saw it coming.
‘It was partially to do with my views on Black Lives Matter and not wearing the badge on Sky. I don’t think that went down very well.
‘I was quite critical about the mainstream media on my social media.’
Questioned by Jordan why he didn’t wish to wear a BLM badge, the he replied: ‘If you think that by wearing a badge like that, you’re going to change the mind of the small minority of people in this country that are racist, you’re living in cloud cuckoo land.
‘Because the people who are racist, and I think there are a very tiny minority of people, in my opinion, in this country who are racist.
‘I think the majority of people in this country are good people and don’t see skin colour, and I think it is getting better with each generation, not saying it hasn’t been in the past, but from I have seen growing up, I have seen a massive shift from my generation to my daughter’s generation now in how they see people and it is getting better all the time.
‘I think we don’t talk about that often enough in a positive light. So that was one of the reasons they didn’t like me very much.’
Le Tissier used Twitter to spread Covid conspiracy theories, something he felt also led to his sacking from Sky.
‘I don’t toe the line when I don’t think it’s right, I won’t and never have done,’ he said.
‘The consequences of that meant I lost my job. I miss that a little bit because I miss working with my mates, we had a really good camaraderie.
‘Fortunately, we still get together from time to time, we are doing a pundits country around the country.
‘I do miss them – I never once woke up on a Saturday morning and thought “oh God, I’ve got to go to work today”. It was fun, it was great.
‘So I miss that but I wouldn’t do anything differently. I feel like a much freer person not having to toe the line.
‘I’m ok with the consequences. No self-harm at all. I have no regrets, no regrets whatsoever.
‘I have been cancelled from a couple of after dinner speeches because some people got a bit upset I was allowed to speak about football to them.
‘This is the world that we live in. My after-dinner speeches, I speak about football and my media career, I don’t touch upon anything else yet I’m being cancelled from these jobs because I’m a conspiracy theorist, which is just beyond the pale really.’
Le Tissier’s social media followers were critical of him after he suggested that the media had lied to the public about the horrors in the Ukraine war.
He retweeted, and then took town, a post by an account called Unity News Net. The post claimed that stories about the Bucha massacre of civilians were falsified.
‘The point of that tweet was to say that during times of war, both sides will engage in propaganda and if you don’t believe that, you are some kind of idiot,’ he said.
‘I could have made the point differently and I apologise and deleted the tweet.
‘In an adult society, you should hold your hands up and say “this is what I meant” and I’m sorry about that, let’s move on.’
