Coventry City boss Mark Robins wants Sheffield Wednesday player Di’Shon Bernard investigated for fracturing Jamie Allen’s cheekbone.
The Sky Blues manager expressed his frustration towards the Owls defender in his post-match interview after Bernard appeared to leave a shoulder in the face of Jamie Allen.
Coventry confirmed after the Fourth Round replay that Allen had to be hospitalised and was diagnosed with a fractured cheekbone.

Mark Robins wants the FA to look at a late incident, alleging it was a “deliberate” act which could rule the player out for the rest of the season.
He said as per The Star: “The only sour note on the night was that Di’Shon Bernard has left a shoulder in on Jamie Allen’s face and fractured his cheekbone, so that’s not ideal and they really need to look at that. The FA need to look at that because it was a bit unsavoury, to say the least.
“He’s got a depressed fracture so I am hoping he is not going to have to have surgery. But he has a depressed fracture and he may need surgery. We’ll see.”
He added: “I have been in to see the referee because it was naughty. They were leaving things in on us a little bit too much, but the referee didn’t see it, or he thought it was innocuous at the time. But obviously it was, yeah, it was deliberate and it was a bit unsavoury, to say the least.
“He’s gone to hospital in an ambulance. It’s not the time out that I am worried about at the minute, it’s his well being. And I am hoping that he’s OK because he was dazed. And you can see the fracture, which was a real depression in his cheek. It’s a bad one.”
The game itself saw three goals in seven second-half minutes as Coventry won 4-1 against Sheffield Wednesday and book an FA Cup fifth round home tie against National League South side Maidstone United.
The Owls, who are without a win in six games in all competitions, went into half time at 1-1, as Bailey-Tye Cadamarteri’s goal cancelled out Kasey Palmer’s second-minute opener.
Mark Robins’ side, who went three games without a win, stormed into the lead in the second half as Callum O’Hare netted his eighth and ninth goals of the season all within six minutes.
Wednesday, who also conceded four goals inside 12 minutes at Championship relegation rivals Huddersfield on Saturday, saw Haji Wright make it 4-1 by the 58th minute.
Coventry manager Mark Robins said to BBC Radio CWR:
“The performance was good from start to finish, just a little bit sloppy in terms of giving them chances.
“I thought Kasey (Palmer) was fantastic all night, but that first run he went on, the calmness and patience he showed in creating an opportunity for himself and finishing it brilliantly, he continued with that all evening.
“We’ve got Callum O’Hare, who’s on fire, linking up with Kasey, linking up with Haji (Wright), and with (Victor) Torp and Josh Eccles, and Jay Dasilva played his best game for us.
“The cross for Haji’s goal was the icing on the cake and with the other two goals in between the game was put to bed.”
Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl told BBC Radio Sheffield:
“After the game at Huddersfield I had to make a decision on how we could go in this game and how we could freshen it as well for Friday (against Birmingham).
“At the end of the game we had five academy players on the pitch, which shows a lot.
“We invested a lot in the first half, which was a good game from both sides, but then we destroyed our performance in eight minutes, which is a bit of a pity.
“(The team selection) was a big decision but we have games on Tuesday and then Friday – Coventry play on Sunday which gives them two more days.
“We tried and not everything was wrong, but in the end it was a bad result. At the moment we make too many basic mistakes.”
Twitter users reacted as Mark Robins says he wants Sheffield Wednesday player Di’Shon Bernard investigated for fracturing Jamie Allen’s cheekbone…
@SephtonMark: Unbelievable! Hope he heals quick.
@nattiecw: So glad we don’t have to play that crappie dirty team again as they will be back in league 1 soon thank goodness. Get well soon Jamie and I hope their player is done for that.
@ChrisDennis5: Sick of Wednesday. Awful club. Glad to see the back of them
@simontodd89: Di’Shon Bernard needs to be retrospectively banned for that elbow on Jamie Allen regardless of whether any of the officials saw it and if they did see it then serious questions need to be asked about why he wasn’t sent off ! #PUSB
@skybluecurtis91: If that attack on Jamie Allen was done in the street, you’d be looking at being prosecuted. Disgusting. Poor lad is looking at a spell out with a fractured cheekbone. #PUSB
@MattLeeBull: @FA you need to have a look at @swfc player D’Sion Bernard in tonight’s game against Coventry… Disgusting elbow on Jamie Allen apparently fracturing his cheek bone. No need for it at any point in the game especially when they’re 4-1 down. Expecting a ban and a fine! #PUSB
@ethwyk: Needs to be looked into. Refs obviously missed a major foul 🤷🏼♂️
@BlazeHome: Wishing Jamie Allen a speedy recovery #PUSB
@Moseley3_: Hope Di’Shon Bernard is banned @FAspokesperson
@RoryDaviesCCFC: Hope we see him back soon 🩵
@dane26hopkins: Ref was right in front of this. Shocking how he only had a word with the player.
@JoshuaMobley18: Speedy recovery Jamie 🩵 #PUSB
@paulc227: Scandalous challenge and ref has some questions to answer seeing as he saw it and didn’t even deem it a booking. What we always see when we get prem refs down in the EFL. They rely on VAR but don’t have it so give nothing.
@JonesStevej87: Get back soon Jamie all the best in the meantime 🤕😮👍
@littlewood88: Shithouse move from that player, knew what he was doing. Glad we don’t have to deal with them again, relegation can’t come quick enough for them
@surgicalscalpel: The geezer smashed his shoulder hard as he could into this blokes face, what a prick
Wednesday
