Manchester United has been looking to sign the 20-year-old English sensation in the Bundesliga, Jadon Sancho for a while now. However, according to CIES, the international centre for sports knows that their own Marcus Rashford is more valuable. His latest performances have placed him on the top of the list, followed by Erling Haaland, another Dortmund striker United had on their transfer list.
What Makes Rashford so Valuable
Marcus Rashford has been in great form this season. In fact, Rashford scored 15 goals and provided his teammates with 7 assists in all competitions. Though this is not the only reason, he is worth so much.
To calculate the value of the player, the CIES experts crunch numbers from an array of parameters. They also take the contract’s duration, the player’s age, his international status, and other essential factors into consideration. Kylian Mbappe was on top for a long time, but due to his contract length being down to 18 months, he dropped down to 5th.
The Top 10 Looks Like This at The Moment:
- Marcus Rashford – €165.5M
- Erling Haaland – €152.0M
- Trent Alexander-Arnold – €151.6M
- Bruno Fernandes – €151.1M
- Kylian Mbappe – €149.4M
- Jadon Sancho – €148.3M
- Joao Felix – €141.5M
- Alphonso Davies – €139.2M
- Raheem Sterling – €136.9M
- Kai Havertz – €136.0
The English Premier League still looks like the most valuable league globally with five players playing in English teams making the top 10. Furthermore, Manchester United has two players in the top 5 with Bruno Fernandes joining Rashford. Bruno increased his value dramatically in the 12 months since joining United. The future is almost certainly looking bright for the Red Devils and their fans.

Liverpool and England right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is regarded by many as the best in his position at only 22. Of course, it should come as no surprise that he is holding the number 3 spot. Raheem Sterling and especially Kai Havertz have been a little out of sorts lately, but that didn’t stop them to remain in the top 10. All of the list’s players are young and still have time to develop, and potentially become one of the world’s best players.
Where are Messi and Ronaldo?
As we previously mentioned, the list is created based on the current form, age, contract length, and other parameters. Unfortunately for the best players, our generation has seen, accolades from the past two decades don’t have much influence on their value.
With Messi being 33 and almost becoming a free agent last summer, he barely made the top 100, and he is holding the 97th position. Cristiano Ronaldo who is turning 36 next month didn’t make the top 100, and we can find him on the 131st spot. Regardless of what CIES experts think, they both show no signs of slowing down and keep putting in goals like they are in their 20s.
