Marc White gives a brutally honest interview after Dorking’s 3-1 defeat to Aveley on Monday night with the post-match reaction going viral.
Just 48 hours on from the 2-2 draw at Eastbourne Borough, Dorking picked up their second loss of the National League South season after 7 games played.
Following the Aveley game, fans quickly jumped onto Dorking’s social media, mocking the side’s result. A few weeks back, Marc White spoke of how he had the best side in the league, with ambitious hopes and promotion, the title, in mind.
But at this early stage, and although we have a very long way to go, things are playing out the way Marc would have hoped.
Following this midweek round of matches, Dorking now sit 10th, with 11 points from 7 games (W3 D2 L2), and are 6 points behind league leaders Hemel Hempstead.
Interviewer: Right um it’s finished here Aveley 3 Dorking one, Marc let’s get your thoughts on that tonight
Marc: Well I mean first of all congratulations to Aveley, work Craig and his team have done here is fantastic and and they deserve lots of fans coming down, double promotion, playoffs last year phenomenal rise.
Yeah I mean basically um I can only tell the fans where I’m at with it I can only be honest, our expectations are very big, I’m not going to hide away from that at the start of the season because I know what our wage bill is, I know the commitment we’re putting into having a brilliant football team, so um I’ll make that known.
And the player availability is just absolutely ridiculous, I said to the boys in there two things tonight really I’ve never and it’s been the first thing been consistent across all of our matches in the last third just not I thought in the last third just weren’t good enough um, we’ve had 70% possession if not more 11v11 was no different to 11v10, dominant, it was a team that did that neither high pressed or low blocked no disrespect but should have been easy for us to get on the outside of them and it was we whipped 11v11 we’ve put countless balls across the box and we didn’t have strikers um that were dying on the end of it.
In the first half I thought our finishing in that first half hour was really pitiful um the deliveries were good Jimmy, Briggsy were putting good deliveries in, second half again if I’m a striker if I’m a 9 or a 10, how on earth can I not at some point fall onto the ball in the box get in front of my man you know etc we should have a penalty, Williams.
but listen the ref it weren’t the ref’s fault that’s for sure that we lost the game, I mean the story of the game the facts of the game are ridiculously dominant 11v11 concede the dead ball dominant again concede the dead ball you know two dead ball second phase is not good enough that’s part of the game, Aveley you know have got good prowess at dead balls that’s part of their game, probably the you know on rare attacks really, 2-0 down against a run a play twice, they go down to 10, I’d have us down at 4-2 winners you know like in terms of like knowing how much we’re going to keep the ball now yeah and then you know queue the shitshow really.
Jason has to come off he’s got a bad knee, we’ve known about the bad knee, trying to play him through it a little bit because obviously we’re struggling with Reece, so you take Jason off his knees really hurting him, you now can’t bring on Reece because his groin needs more time can’t possibly stress his groin out, bring on Jordan Williams, he done ten 60 meter sprints on Sunday with me, past the fitness test, we’re pretty confident that he can do you know whatever minutes his hamstring pulls up again, so that’s that,
Jimmy can’t do 90 minutes, barely ever, being honest not good enough um so he has to come off, obviously you lose count don’t you really I mean it’s it is Jukey said it is a fucking shambles and it is obviously…
Listen, I’m not fucking Guardiola right but I another win football matches I another win divisions and how to get promotions right um and we haven’t just won leagues and promotions, we’ve done it by scoring record goals, we’ve done it by having record possession, at one point voted the best non league team for stats in the hold of England whilst in this division, right. We’ve built amazing sides we know what we’re fucking doing right, but I said to the boys in there you know Boreham Wood at the end I’d like you know what we should have pressed differently blah blah blah, but sometimes you say to the players not being funny like none of you are available, you can’t play a game of football.

@cleverdon33: Shame your younger fans have to listen to the language there Marc…. I get your injuries etc…. but the Aveley lads on Saturday had a 13 hour return coach journey, a grueling Match against Torquay and done a full day’s work on Monday before digging out a win tonight……

@MANapier23: My first time watching Dorking and I’m more entertained by Marc reactions than the first half performance, you have to give the opponent credits for defending their lives in order for a win in that second half. It’s a long season ahead and I’m sure Dorking will be up there 👍

@calvertskans: Closer to a relegation side than a promotion one. Absolute insanity we keep making the same mistakes and not bringing in cover for all these injuries. Repeatedly rushing back players so they can get injured again is madness. There has to be 2-3 signings this week.
