Mansfield commentators labelled ‘salty’ for comments taking aim at Swindon and their fans

Mansfield Town commentators has been labelled as ‘salty’ for a number of comments taking aim at opponents Swindon Town and their fans.

@jiff1967 uploaded a number of videos, capturing the moment those on commentary from the League Two fixture over the weekend said something that went on to cause a stir online.

In one of the clips put on social media, a commentator says “some of their fans have been an absolute disgrace, not only have they spent most of the match booing Stags players, but they have been just goading Mansfield fans’ another added “very poor supporting their team, an earlier shot from Jake Young, they were chanting ‘we have had a shot, we have had a shot’, it’s pathetic support!”

They pipe up again, “Swindon fans behaving all of a sudden as if they’re about to win a cup final”, then right at the end, “and that’s the full time whistle, Swindon celebrate like they’ve won the Emirates FA Cup Final, they have beaten Mansfield Town by two goals to one, with the winner three minutes into stoppage time by Jake Young, after the ball had come back off the Mansfield post, a fantastic game in the second half, end to end football, it really could have gone either way, but it’s gone to Swindon.”

His co-commentator adds: “yeah gut-wrenching, first league defeat in a hell of a long time, can’t even remember, don’t want to remember, brilliant second half if you’re a neutral, but we had our chances Mark, Lucas Akins made a brilliant difference when he came on.”

You think by now, with the players making their way off the pitch by now that they’d stop, but one when further: “and like you say Swindon acted like they won the World Cup nevermind the FA Cup, but we’ll bounce back Martin.”

Then Twitter user Nathan James then tweeted: “Thanks to @jiff1967 for sharing the salty Mansfield commentators. I’ve actually now discovered their full list of complaints and tbh it’s hard to disagree with them #STFC”

He added a photo taking the mick, saying:

” – Swindon fans were not being nice to Mansfield players OR fans

– Swindon fans seemed to take pleasure in scoring goals and winning

– Swindon fans would regularly make loud noises by banging their hands together

– Swindons stadium had 4 huge, intimidating pylons that beamed light down on Mansfields players

– Swindon players all wore red, the colour of anger. This appeared to be deliberate

– Swindon fans were often singing about the old Soviet Military’s “red army”

– Swindon players wore shoes that had dangerous spikes built into them

– Swindon players were aggressively kicking a round object at Mansfield players, especially Mansfield’s goalkeeper”

You really have to laugh.

This is how other Twitter users reacted after the Mansfield commentators are labelled ‘salty’ for comments taking aim at Swindon and their fans…

@ChisieWeirdo: Wow – has that guy been to a football match before?

@MLS05613685: What ridiculous coms from @mansfieldtownfc why are fans not allowed to boo? Do they understand the context of the player? These local commentators are biased at best, but this is just silly 🤪
And we had a shot because we’ve been awful lately. Lighten up pussy cat.

@jiff1967: good lord according to Mansfield towns commentary team we can’t even celebrate a win after a 7 game winless run absolute cretins

@StfcAbi: Sorry guys don’t celebrate winning a game! Especially when it’s against a team that’s unbeaten in 17 and your without a win how ever many games

@bcks109: I hope that they enjoyed the bowl of sour grapes on the travel back to the bus stop in Nottingham 🤣🤣🤣

@CamelSaunders: These two are in wrong job!

@MalcDaySTFC: Oooh!! Someone’s tired!!

@swinfan69: Haha… what would Mansfield know about winning cups. Tinpot

@NeilPagey: What a pair of absolute muppets. Did they expect people to sit on their hands or celebrate our first win in god knows when?!

@Chippenham_fm22: What a melt! Are we not allowed to boo opposition players?

@Minty2James: Jesus, these two are a barrel of laughs. Surely every team celebrates a 94th minute winner like they’ve won the cup. Looks like Mansfield could become the next Port Vale?

@timofthetown: Wow salty

@Jobi180: 🤣 who is this bellend?

@JJHarri40364562: Ahahahaha pair of pricks 😂😂

It was on the 38th minute that the deadlock broke, coming from a free-kick, as the ball dropped for the forward on the left-hand side of the Mansfield penalty area, and volleyed home with a cool finish.

Mansfield levelled on 49 minutes, Lewis threading a pass towards the run of Akins as they went on the break, Akins then disposed of a Swindon defender before sending the ball into the bottom corner.

But in the 94th minute, a chaotic penalty area saw the ball come back off the post twice with Charlie Augustin heavily involved, but it was Jake Young making no mistake from close range.

Swindon Town: Mahoney, Hutton, Blake-Tracy (C), McEachran (Shade 77), Young, Khan, Kemp, Kokolo (Austin 88), Godwin-Malife, Kinsella, Minturn

Goals: Young 38, 90+4

Subs not used: L.Ward, Genesini, Dworzak, Brown, Hart

Mansfield Town: Pym, Johnson, Cargill, Bowery (Quinn 45), Maris, Flint (C), Lewis, Oates (MacDonald 84), Brunt, Reed, Keillor-Dunn (Boateng 89)

Goal: Akins 49

Subs not used: Flinders, Williams, Swan

Referee: Lee Swabey

Swindon boss Michael Flynn said as per Swindon Advertiser: “Today was good for everyone, I think that I needed it, the staff needed it, the players needed it, and most importantly the fans needed it.

“It is a bit corny but that one was for them because they have stuck with us through the last month.

“We should have won a lot more games in that month, today was a far more solid performance throughout the duration of the game and the players deserve the credit for that.

“The players have been working hard, they are as fed up as I am and the supporters are, they have got pride in playing for Swindon Town.

“Talk is cheap and I can tell you until I am blue in the face, but they have gone and proved today that they care and that is the pleasing thing for me.

“I knew they could and I never had any doubts about that, that they cared about this team.

“From the outside looking in and you start getting all the stupid questions getting asked, well they have just answered all of them.

“For as bad of a month as we had going almost a month without winning, we are two points outside the play-offs.”

He said: “There was a clear penalty and we created a lot of chances after that.

“I have known Lee [Swabey, the referee] and he was gracious enough to admit that he got it wrong during the game.

“We all make mistakes and I have definitely not been perfect in my life, and all we want is that but of honesty and Lee was honest today, so I respect that.

“It does [feel like justice], if you look at last week we had a perfectly good goal disallowed and you start going ‘oh no, here we go, it is not our day again.’

“But like I said to you in the press yesterday, there are no excuses, we will keep going, and we will keep working.

“We are going to have things go against and we are going to have things given to us that maybe we shouldn’t have.

“Today I thought we got what we deserved and that was the three points because I was very impressed with that performance.”

Mansfield’s Nigel Clough spoke to iFollow Stags post-match: “It was a very poor way to lose.

“Seventeen games unbeaten is remarkable at any standard and to give it away in the 93rd minute, having had enough chances to win the game, [was disappointing]. We just didn’t deal with the ball in the last few minutes.

“We’ve got a brilliant defensive record and we didn’t defend well enough from the set play and then in the last few minutes. That’s what has cost us the game, as well as missed chances.

“You could almost see it [the Swindon winner] coming. We’d had enough chances to go two or three ahead; Lucas hit the bar and Aaron Lewis had a lot of chances. Then, you make sure you just don’t concede.”

“The referee’s apologised for the mistake he made in the build up to the [first Swindon] goal,” he said.

“He should have given a foul to us, just before George Maris gave the free-kick away.

“And then Rhys Oates hasn’t done his job. If he’s going to go back there and defend, he has to do his job properly.

“[A potential offside decision was] very tight indeed. We’ll have to look back but it’s 50/50 whether you get them or not.

“There were certainly two penalties in the second-half, one for us and one for them.”

Clough made changes at half time, replacing George Maris and Jordan Bowery for Stephen Quinn and Lucas Akins.

On those substitutions, Nigel said: “It was just to change it up a little bit. I wanted those two back on the pitch and I thought they made an immediate impact.

“It was [a well-worked goal] as Lucas tucked it away with his left foot. From that point on you shouldn’t lose the game.

“It’s early for [Quinn] to come back. He had 60 minutes on Tuesday and if we’d been winning or drawing at half-time today, we wouldn’t have brought him on that early. He’s done another 45 so he’ll keep building up and hopefully in a couple of weeks time he’ll be nearly there.”
