Man shot dead in double shooting at Bramall Lane

A 30 year old man has been shot dead in a double shooting at Bramall Lane, next to Sheffield United, with a second male in hospital.

Two men were shot close to the stadium at around 9.40pm on Saturday the 10th of April with one man pronounced dead at the scene and another taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.

A 31-year-old man, who was shot next to Sheffield United’s ground, is being treated for gunshot wounds in hospital after a second man, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting occurred just off of Clough Road in Sheffield city centre at around 9.40pm.

Emergency services rushed to the scenes, only to arrive and immediately pronounced a 30-year-old man with “life-threatening injuries consistent with firearms discharge” has lost his life.

Paramedics rushed a second man, a 31-year-old to hospital, where he is being treated for gunshot wounds, South Yorkshire Police said.

They added that the second man is said to have sustained “minor injuries consistent with firearms discharge,” YorkshireLive reported.

Police have since launched an investigation to “find those responsible” for the death and injury of the men.

A cordon has been put in place around the scene, including a section of the Bramall Lane stadium, while officers carry out enquiries.

Part of St Mary’s Church, which is next door to the stadium, has also been cordoned off.

Officers are expected to remain in the area until late on Sunday, April 11, as detectives carry out enquiries.

South Yorkshire Police have urged anyone with information to come forward and quote reference 984 of April 10.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called at around 9:40pm on Saturday 10 April to reports of shots fired in Clough Road, Sheffield.

“Police attended the scene and discovered a 30-year-old man with life-threatening injuries consistent with firearms discharge. He was very sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

“A second 31-year-old man suffered minor injuries consistent with firearms discharge. He was taken to hospital via ambulance to receive treatment.

“An investigation has been launched to find those responsible. Police remain at the scene and a cordon is in place whilst officers conduct their enquiries.

“If anyone has any information that might help, please call 101 quoting incident number 984 of 10 April.

“Alternatively, you can stay completely anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers via their website Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling their UK Contact Centre on 0800 555 111.”

Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the man shot dead in the double shooting next to Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane and wishing all the best to the second person in hospital.

Sheffield United are set to host Premier League mid-table side Arsenal at Bramall Lane with some of the area still cordoned off before the 7pm kick off on Sunday night.

Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom said before the game:

We took two more injuries in the Leeds game with Jayden and George’s head injuries.

We have had to follow that protocol so hopefully they will be signed off and come through it – today was the first day of contact and hopefully they will be fit and able to go

John Egan dropped in to the back end of last week’s training and got some minutes against Leeds, had a full week training now so he is much the better for seven days training

Sharp and Bash have been doing the rehab on the pitch which is good, time will tell with their injuries, how they respond, can they keep progressing in the right way and we’ll be led by that. How they respond to each step up in the rehab.

Sander is at the back end of his rehab now and hopefully we can get him in training with the players next week, but obviously with the length of time he has been out we are not going to put any pressure on him to be starting.

He’s going to need a lot of minutes training and assessment. We will have to see how he responds to the players and the ball.

We are working really hard and if we can get a good couple of weeks training in him we can get him on the pitch.

When asked ‘Is it the immediate aim to end the losing run’, he replied: “Performances raise hope, pick up points, that’s the short term and if we can do that then that roles in to next season. That’s the bits we can control.

“But I don’t think you can plan too much for next season at the expense of the games in front of you.

“It would be natural to start looking ahead, but if you do that this league is unforgiving and it will punish you.”

Asked if Arsenal are under achieving: “You can say that but we are at the stage of the season where you are where you deserve to be.

“You have seen in their games they can really open you up – there has been questions, there are moments when they can blow teams away, we have to try and make them not be that good and play on the back foot while keeping an eye on those players they have who can produce a bit of magic and take a game away from you.”

How he views the last eight game: “We have to look forward, we can’t sit back and feel sorry for ourselves, we have to look forwad.

“West Brom had a fantastic result and put a bit of daylight between us but we are chasing them and a couple of wins changes a lot.

“We have to look at next sesason and what some good performances will do but we have not lost focus on this season”

LAWRO’S PREDICTION

For a while now it has been just a question of when Sheffield United are going to be relegated, not if.

The Blades beat Arsenal in this fixture last season but it is hard to make a case for a repeat result this time, even knowing how bad the Gunners can be.

Mikel Arteta’s side were extremely poor in their 3-0 defeat by Liverpool last weekend, but they are so up and down at the moment that it doesn’t mean they will be the same again.

Prediction: 0-2
