Lincoln player scores from inside his OWN HALF to crush Wycombe’s playoff hopes

Lincoln player Lasse Sorensen scores a stunning goal from inside his OWN HALF to crush Wycombe’s playoff hopes on Saturday afternoon.

Dylan Duffy scored the opening goal for the visitors on 7 minutes after Regan Poole had floated the ball into the box and he then headed it home.

Sam Vokes got on the end of Nick Freeman’s cross, only for the ball to go wide at the half-hour mark, before Lincoln’s Harry Boyes wasted a good chance to end a stop start first half.

Wycombe began the second half the brighter side. Garath McCleary thought that he had equalised at the back post, but Carl Rushworth was able to keep out his effort.

Then Sorensen controlled Max Stryjek’s miscued free kick and smashed a fantastic effort from distance past the scrambling goalkeeper to extend Lincoln’s lead.

Lasse said: “It’s funny because first of all I had turned my back to their goalkeeper, but then Regan started shouting my name so I had to look the other way.

“The ball came to me and it’s just instinct. I took a touch and saw the keeper was a way out so I thought I might as well try. It’s one of them where you hit it and you sort of know straight away it will go in.

“I’m very happy about it and I enjoyed the moment – it will probably be the best goal of my career.”

Sørensen also praised team-mate Dylan Duffy who put the Imps into an early lead in the first half with his first goal for City.

He added: “Dylan is a very good player. I’ve played against him at wing-back a lot in training and he’s been giving me a tough time.

“He’s quick, he’s strong so we’ve seen that for a while on the training pitch. I’m very happy for him.”

Lincoln head coach Mark Kennedy was pleased with the defensive foundations his side have built in order to earn another clean sheet.

He said: “You have to have a foundation to build on things. I think tactically out of possession we are excellent and that allows the other guys to flourish.

“We have got enough talent within our group that on any given day we can hurt teams and we are starting to see that now.”

He added: “We have got really good people in the building in terms of staff and players. It takes time to build things and we have to stay calm and relaxed.

“We are not a team that will be knocking on the doors of the [League One] play-offs just yet but I do strongly believe we are heading in the right direction.”

When asked about the positives, in a day of negatives for Wycombe boss Matt Bloomfield told the Bucks Free Press: “Jordan Willis.

“I thought he was excellent when he came on.

“Chem Campbell gave us some energy when he came on.

“I was pleased with the way we came out and started the second half.

“We built that momentum but the second goal was a sucker punch.

“We had a few good chances, the keeper made a good few saves and on another day, we would have scored them.”

He continued: “We’re professionals and we want to have pride in our performances.

“I’m excited for the future of this football club and what we can do.

“We need to move forward and we have got plenty to learn, and don’t get me wrong, I’m really disappointed in how things have ended this afternoon.

“I wanted to really push on and get into the play-offs but it wasn’t meant to be.

“However, despite this, we need to go out against Cheltenham and show pride in our performance.”
