Leyton Orient can confirm it has parted company with Head Coach Ross Embleton following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Tranmere Rovers.
Embleton leaves with the Club in 14th position in the table and following a run of seven games without a win and only four wins in its last 15 matches.
Orient Chairman Nigel Travis said: “This was an extremely difficult decision for us to make, and one which we have done with heavy hearts.
“Nobody can underestimate, nor should ever forget, the influence and impact Ross has had on the rebirth of our Club. He was an integral part of our National League success and he stood up to lead the team following the tragic loss of Justin Edinburgh, and again put himself forward when we were later in need of a Head Coach.
“He is a bright young coach with a strong philosophy and some excellent ideas, but the board felt that with the investment made in the squad and the current situation in football that we should be looking to push on at an accelerated rate and unfortunately in recent weeks that has not happened.
“I’m confident Ross will bounce back from this as he has a lot to offer a club and we genuinely wish him every success in the future and thank him for all he has done for us.”

Embleton, 39, first worked for Orient between 2000 and 2009, and was in charge of the Club’s then Centre of Excellence before leaving to work for Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth and Norwich City in Academy roles. He was appointed as first team coach at Swindon Town in November 2015 under Martin Ling, but left in May 2017 and joined Orient a month later as assistant manager.
He led the Club on its return to the Football League for the 2018/19 season but stepped back to his assistant’s role only to move back into the Head Coach role again in January 2020.
The Club expects to make an imminent announcement regarding a successor.

Fans reacted as Leyton Orient sack their manager with new appointment imminent…
@Pandamonium1881: Football is a results driven business and when pressure added, it was probably inevitable. Has done the best he can (some of it in truly unique and horrible circumstances for which we should all thank him). Life goes on & we look forward to the new man in (obviously quickly!)
@PhilVeasey1: Really sad news but it had to happen – this is also the time to lose Martin Ling too – he is operating in the previous century, and completely out of touch with the needs of 2021 – also needs to be moved on!
@lauriehann: The right decision sadly but thank you for all your efforts over the last few years. Sorry it didn’t work out.
@andrewconquest: He’s a good guy and deserves our thanks for everything he’s done for us and I genuinely wish him all the best.
@AdamMeagher: Replies to this are going to be horrid. All the best Ross, sorry it didn’t work out.
@OrientFanTV: Not suprised, always had the best interests of orient at heart, forever grateful for when he stepped in recently at a horrible time at the time for the club when appointed, Thank you Ross, good luck for the future
@DannyTheO1881: Feel really sorry for Ross. Proper O’s man and despite the recent run of form, I think he could have turned it round. We now need someone with some proper experience in League One/Two.
@georgieorient: Sad to see someone go who has such a connection and understanding of the club. Think we need someone to take us back to basics and playing in the right areas like Edinburgh did after replacing Davis. #LOFC
@NickAlmighty79: The correct decision, wish Ross all the best he was a great ambassador for the club and stood by us through thick and thin.
@jstands4jay: Bonkers. Orient are 14th….. Have won 11 games and aren’t in Sanger of relegation. Unreal.
@theonejoeyd: think they’ve spent big for their standards this summer so were hoping for a better push
@quins1980: Shame but probably the correct thing to do, we were dire today
@OrientBuccaneer: Thank you for everything Ross and best of luck going forward. Gutted it couldn’t work out, appreciate everything you did for us.
@JamesOHagan: Wish him nothing but the best in whatever he does going forward, but it was time to move on, I hope he lands on his feet and does well elsewhere. How quickly people who accused him of “ruining the club” forgot the Bechetti era. Some “fans” make me ashamed to follow the same club
@BenDBollard: Wish Ross well, ultimately it was a big ask. Hopefully the club can get the next appointment right and we can push on #COYOS
@coachcharlie73: Brought stability and dignity to the job. Top fella @EmbletonRoss
@Essexbizz: Gutted for Ross but not surprised. Privately I’ve thought that the relationship between Ross and. Ling had broken down a while ago. I wish Ross all the success in the future. A top bloke and one of us. Thanks Roses. Once an O always an O
@DerryKris: Gutted for Ross, Orient through and through and I am sad it had to end this way, but something isn’t working and something had to change. Thanks Ross for everything, it’s been a blast and good luck wherever you go next. In fact I will add, maybe controversially, that the players last couple of games knew this was on the cards and have got him the sack, as their effort has been poor, and I hate that. They should die for the club whatever. Ross will always be an Os legend for me
@AS_Northbank: That was quick. @ThierryHenry needs to jump at this opportunity. IMO

@Paul_Wahlhaus: Right decision given results – Ross, thanks for all you have done for the club. Hope you find a good role somewhere else soon and keep supporting the club as a fan!
Gutted it didn’t work out. A true gentlemen who always had the clubs best interest at heart. I Wish him nothing but the best of luck for the future. Once an O, always an O. #LOFC pic.twitter.com/BFbUiSMgSi
