Leicester have been relegated to League One, manager Gary Rowett and chairman “Top” speak out, fans also vent fury at players.
They will play their football in the third tier for the first time since the 2008-09 season. From winning the Premier League back in 2016, to back to back relegations. The fans certainly made their feelings known.
Some confronted the players after emerging out of the stadium, Hamza Choudhury spoke with a group. One fan called out Harry Winks who had got booed when subbed on in the 2-2 draw against Hull, days after he got in a heated row with fans following defeat to Portsmouth.
@JasonBourne1986 tweeted: “talkSPORT understands Gary Rowett and Leicester are expected to part company at the end of the season. We’ve been told there’s no expectation from either side that he’ll continue as manager beyond facing Blackburn on 2nd May.”
@JacobsBen said: “Gary Rowett is set to leave Leicester when his short-term deal expires at the end of the season, with Leicester wanting to explore other options to try and bounce straight back, while sources indicate Rowett also prefers to depart.”

After Leicester City’s relegation to League One, Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha issued the following statement:
“To our fans, relegation to League One is now confirmed. As Chairman, that responsibility sits with me. There are no excuses.
“We have experienced the highest highs and now the lowest lows, and the pain is shared by all of us. I am truly sorry for the disappointment we have caused. I understand the strength of feeling among our supporters, and we do not take your support for granted, especially at moments like this.
“Our focus now is on what comes next. We will take the necessary decisions to move the Club forward, working together to rebuild, improve, and restore the standards expected of Leicester City. Our objective is clear – to respond strongly and compete to move this Club forward again.
“We will face this head-on. We will keep going.
“Together. Top.”
Leicester boss Gary Rowett on Sky Sports Football:
“It’s incredibly frustrating. If I look at the game first, it’s quite symptomatic in some ways. In the first half, we make a really poor mistake that gives them a lift. We’ve done that too many times. We didn’t match the urgency or importance of the game, although we still created a couple of good moments where we should score.
“In the second half, we came out and were absolutely excellent. Maybe if we’d played with that urgency in the last five or six games, we’d have taken more points. We looked like a team willing to fight and created lots of chances but couldn’t take them. I’m hugely frustrated with the game.
“The bigger picture is that you don’t get relegated over three or four games, but over a season. We’ve missed a lot of chances, but that’s not the whole story. We’ve only kept five clean sheets all season, so it’s not just about the forwards. We’ve also given away poor goals, and you could see that again tonight.”
Rowett told BBC Radio Leicester:
“I’m incredibly frustrated. In the first half, our energy and drive didn’t match the importance of the game.
“We still created some good moments and chances, but the fact that 18-year-old Divine Mukasa was trying to do everything himself showed that some of the others needed to step up a little bit more.
“Second half was much better and if we had that same drive and energy and passion in some of the other games, maybe things would be different.
“We should have won the game – we created lots of good chances. The game was symptomatic of a lot of games: We created a lot of chances and we don’t take them and give away silly goals at the other end to give the opposition a lift.
“We are all disappointed and the fans, who have paid their hard earned money, will be incredibly disappointed to see their football club that 10 years ago won the Premier League [get relegated].
“I know it’s a rollercoaster being a fan at times, but I probably wouldn’t expect that rollercoaster to be quite so extreme.”
The biggest concern for Leicester is that they have already cashed in on future instalments from Premier League parachute payments and player sale instalments by selling those sums to MacQuarie bank.

“At end of 2017/18 Leicester had accumulated profits of £25 million, by end of 2024/25 that had turned into an accumulated loss of £375 million.”
Here’s the social media reaction with Leicester relegated to League One, Rowett and chairman deciding to speak out, and fans taking to vent fury at players…
@john959379: You’ll be able to sing ‘Champions of England – you’ll never sing that’ to Stevenage, Wycombe, Doncaster & Burton….
@ChloeRT9: There is no trust left. It’s too little, too late. Please, just sell.
@SamMartinFPL: There will of course be no accountability, no repercussions for those who have caused this. They will roll out the 15/16 squad in an attempt to brush this under the carpet, they will hope that we move on. We had the highest of highs and this is an avoidable low.
@37elliss: You won’t though. You’ll announce a change of Job Title to some board members in July. You won’t sort the finances. We’re paying off interests to all sorts of banks. You’ve fucked it beyond repair. Sell up.
@JackWhitman_7: one of the greatest footballing stories has ended with us ending up in the third tier of english football, something vichai did the best in doing the complete opposite. this incompetence cannot be maintained so enough is enough.
@LestahSam: You cannot seriously say standards are restored until at MINIMUM you sack Jon Rudkin, the man you promoted. These are empty words and we’ll continue to protest until real change happens.
@alexharris_92: One step he could take which instantly gets most of the fans back on board which will show actual accountability, sack Jon Rudkin! Will never happen though, so its just empty words…
@JSM1884: If you clapped them off tonight, don’t come back
@Ltayls96: I’ve never felt so detached from this football club. We spent 2 hours stood outside reception last night & the only players to front it was a player that’s been there for 3 months in Lacelles & Hamza. The rest of them are a stain on this great football club. Bin the lot. #lcfc
@Ashleypp1986: Khun Top clearly doesn’t learn from his mistakes because if he did we wouldn’t have 3 relegations in 4 seasons on iur CV! Rudkin pulls the strings & abuses the power Top has ludicrously given him! If changes are not made at boardroom level then I see the club going under! #LCFC
Rudkin – Scared to walk around the city … Resign then 👍#lcfc 💙🦊 pic.twitter.com/3Lj3t6wZeh
