Leeds United chief business officer Morrie Eisenberg said: “We are delighted to submit a planning application to Leeds City Council, on schedule with our proposed timeline of the project.
“This is a result of the hard work of everyone involved over the past 18 months, where designs and concepts have been developed to revitalise Elland Road Stadium, whilst preserving the unique history and heritage it holds.
“I would like to thank everyone who took the time to go to the public exhibition at the Centenary Pavilion and the consultation sessions in the local community, with over 1,800 people visiting in person, and those who completed the questionnaire and provided us with invaluable comments and feedback, which have all been considered.
“As a club, we believe this development will provide great economic benefits to the local community and will be a catalyst for a regeneration of the area.”
A final decision on the application is now expected to be made within approximately 13 weeks.
Here’s how fans reacted as Leeds United move a step closer as they issue update on their Elland Road expansion plans…
@lufcborn: Exciting times if it actually happens 💛💙🤍
@19matt_19: Sometimes you had to sit back and think about how good things are right now for us , classy owners , stadium redevelopment, spending probably over 100 million on players, look at sheff wed and what life could be as a fan , let’s enjoy this time #lufc
@MaybeMartLowe: I know I’m a negative git when it comes to Leeds.. But still don’t think it’ll happen
@ACinWY: This is great news. In the long term will be vastly more important than any signing #LUFC makes this summer. Would still like to see a LB who can actually defend arrive soon, though.
@lufcThommo: Great news! You’d think it’s in the councils best interests to push this through as quickly as they can.
Angela McPartlan: Plans look fantastic. Just hope it comes to fruition 💙🤍💛
Simon Whittam: All these people moaning it’s taking to long. Get in the real world. Planners, architects, e gingers, quantity surveyors all working on a huge project like this to get it ready to submit for planning takes months and months. The amount of work that. Just have gone in for thus would be immense. The planning process now could take upto 6 months now as well. Toing and froing with information they’ll want adding. These things especially on this scale don’t happen overnight. There a long process
Damian Thompson: Wow… how stretched out can this process be? Next the club will be announcing the purchase of the first spade. It’s all just spin to keep the pot bubbling but real Ambition is shown on the pitch and in the transfer dealings
Tony Moody: Well if the council don’t accept it they don’t deserve to have a football club in our city.
Alex Mcdougall: The owners are being proactive and actually doing something about the dilapidated ground, and people can do is moan about it like spoiled brats.
George Reid: All the doom and gloom idiots talking utter pish saying it won’t happen
