Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips trolls West Ham then quickly deletes his comment

Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips trolls West Ham over a ‘£50m bid’ then quickly deletes his comment only for onlooking Instagram users to pick up on it.

It had been reported that a £50million bid was put to the Whites during the January transfer window, no deal came to fruition and it left Hammers fans unhappy with the lack of any signings made to strengthen their bid for a top four finish in the Premier League.

Manager David Moyes has insisted it was ‘not for the want of trying’ before claiming several big bids were knocked back.

Last weekend The Evening Standard claimed West Ham had offered Leeds £50m for England international midfielder Phillips.

That followed a bid of the same figure for Phillips’ Leeds teammate and Brazil forward Raphinha.

West Ham were mocked by talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan and former Hammers striker Dean Ashton for ‘phantom bids and faux ambition’ in the wake of the supposed bids to Leeds.

Jordan has savaged West Ham chief Sullivan – the club’s majority stakeholder – accusing him of phantom bids and faux ambition (talkSPORT).

“I wrote an article in The Guardian 15 years ago about David Sullivan and his transfer activities and I’ll read some of it (Jordan proceeds to read an extract in which he claims Sullivan ‘misled’ the press about a phantom bid for Andy Johnson when Birmingham owner),” Jordan said on talkSPORT.

“‘It was an attempt to unsettle my player and make himself and Birmingham look ambitious’.

“There’s your mate (Jordan says to White on his West Ham ‘source’).

“First of all the player (Kalvin Phillips) has got two and a half years left on his contract. This is a standard way of operating that Sullivan – and Gold – but maybe a bit more David (Sullivan) has.

“Who in God’s name told him Kalvin Phillips wants and is ready to go to West Ham? And on what basis have they gone in for a £50m player who was never going to go there in the first place?

“It looks good on paper. We can all bid for players and make sure the media are aware of our ambitions without actually being able to conclude them.”

Leeds themselves denied ever receiving a formal offer from West Ham for Phillips, and the player kept this in mind when taking to taunt the Hammers.

Earlier this week, he took to mock West Ham with a comment on their bid for Raphinha in a post on social media.

He played a vital part in his country’s latest World Cup qualifying win as he scored and had two more goals ruled out as Brazil hit four past Paraguay in Belo Horizonte.

After the game, Raphina took to Instagram and posted pictures with a caption: “What an amazing night. Congratulations to all for the delivery and the match we made. Thanks for everyone’s support. We go for more, for much more.”

Kalvin Phillips responded by taunting West Ham over their £50m bid then deleted the comment.

Phillips commented on the Instagram post with a sarcastic dig, saying: “50 million they said” alongside by a laughing emoji, eyes and flames.
