Leeds fans vent anger with chants towards Jesse Marsch; one supporter mocks helicopter crash

Leeds United fans vent anger with chants towards Jesse Marsch and one supporter has been slammed as he mocks the Leicester helicopter crash.

The Whites fell to a 2-0 defeat at fellow Premier League strugglers Leicester, leaving Leeds with just two wins in 10 games and only out of the relegation zone thanks to goal difference.

Marsch helped steer Leeds clear of relegation last season and there was some now hope, however there has been no notable improvements on the last campaign.

Another poor performance led to criticism in the away end at the King Power stadium on Thursday with some fans making it clear their allegiances don’t lie with the current manager.

Instead many took to sing the name of former manager Marcelo Bielsa, who was sacked in February having previous been a fan favourite when he took the club back to the Premier League and kept them up in their first season back.

Marsch acknowledged the chants and said: “We’re disappointed, in general – I heard them, for the first time ever, they sung Marcelo Bielsa’s name.

“I understand they have a right to support the club however they want, all I can say is the group that’s here now is giving everything they have, to the fans, to the club to try and be successful to try and find a way.

“I feel like we’re close, I do, but we’ve got to find ways to reward ourselves in moments where we’re doing okay.

“Away from home it’s also not good enough so we’ve got to figure that out, but it’s a big match on Sunday and we need all that positive support when we get back to Elland Road.

“We need to save our season a little bit on Sunday.”

Player ratings

Leicester: Ward (8), Castagne (7), Amartey (7), Faes (8), Justin (7), Tielemans (7), Soumare (7), Dewsbury-Hall (8), Praet (7), Vardy (7), Barnes (8).

Subs: Daka (6), Mendy (6), Perez (6).

Leeds: Meslier (6), Firpo (5), Kristensen (5), Koch (4), Llorente (6), Roca (5), Adams (6), Aaronson (6), Summerville (6), Sinisterra (7), Bamford (5).

Subs: Cooper (6), Rodrigo (5), Harrison (6), Gelhardt (6), Klich (n/a).

Player of the match: Harvey Barnes.

Leeds face promoted side Fulham at home, and Marsch has extra pressure on his team to get a result against Marco Silva’s high-flyers.

He said: “It’s way early in the season, obviously the biggest thing is just trying to figure out a way to get ourselves going, to capitalise on moments where we’re doing okay in matches.

“Everything is fine margins in this league and if we’re not getting goals and we’re going behind too much then we’re always going to be trying to fight and dig ourselves out.

“It’s a tough moment right now, we’ve got to stick together, we’ve got to believe in what we’re doing and we’ve got to know that Sunday is a really, really important moment for us.”

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers, speaking to BBC Sport: “I’m very pleased, I thought it was a very good performance and our third clean sheet in a row at home.

“Leeds were good and pressed very well but we managed the pressure well. The key was our collective work and aggression, we worked ourselves into the ground.

“It was a very good three points.

“It is going to be a slow season for us I feel but the players have performed well and we are starting to get some results. tonight it was very good.

“Harvey Barnes was outstanding and a real threat. The second goal was one of the goals of the season, exactly how we talked about our movement patterns.

“We have to build on this now and we have a good opportunity at Wolves on Sunday. We need to recover and get our game plan together.”

One Leeds fan was criticised on social media for mocking the Leicester helicopter crash, which saw Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha lose his life, as a way to taunt the home fans.

This is what social media users said as Leeds fans vent anger with chants towards Jesse Marsch and one supporter mocks the helicopter crash…

@FPLVinyl: Players have been to blame for a lot of this winless run, but tonight was on Marsch.

@Coldog83: He’s got to go – dropping Harrison and cooper ???

@mdc19860: Surprised a lot of them were allowed to stay up with it being an 8.15 kick off! Look about 12 and giving it the massive!

@AndycLufc: He gets slated week in week out when he does go over to the crowd and then gets slated when he doesn’t, the fella can’t win, literally

@jack11066025: what the fuck? doesn’t help at all does it? no need for a reception like that, shouting at players telling them fuck off. ffs

@FOREVERLEEDSMOT: At least when we lost under Bielsa the football was fun. There..I’ve said it

@josh14951078: Chanting the ex gaffer name and then moaning the current gaffer doesn’t come over..

@EwanScottLufc: Honestly not looked into which managers are available, but hear me out here, bielsa. He never had a midfield when he was with us, we actually have a decent midfield. Imagine what he could do to Willy and roca and Adam’s. He loves us and we love him. Bring back the harmony.

@TashaALTV: Chanting Marcelo Bielsa, we wouldn’t even be playing Leicester if he was still here 😂 this is fucking wank but so was last season under Bielsa.

@pinheadhobbs: At least with Bielsa the chaos was chaotic, it was fun, embraced and we loved it… this is controlled crap, neither here nor there, it’s the Lib Dems of football, and it’s crap #lufc

@LUFC_WorldWide: All the Leeds fans who travelled there tonight paid hard earned money to be there. They didn’t get what they paid for. That said, singing Marcelo Bielsa chants isn’t for me. Cringed a bit.

@SamTooon: Proper embarrassing that

@JT1hundred: The way our fans switch on the team/manager is hilarious

@ConorTHFC: Singing your ex managers name who was going to get you relegated and then expecting your current manager to come and thank you for your support is quite funny

@sideb4self: He doesn’t deserve us.

@_lufcsam: Sing the ex managers name in spite towards Marsch and then wonder why he doesn’t come over. Also, we’d get done 5/6/7 with Bielsa in charge and he’d go straight down the tunnel. Our away ends fucking stink these days I beg we get relegated

@mitchdavis_1: When we played them last season at Molineux and first game this season, we gave them both games, which was so annoying as a wolves fan. Jesse Marsch is a terrible terrible manager. Leeds are in trouble with us all this season. Don’t see them sacking him though

@Chickxn23: If you’re blaming him for not coming over after you were chanting the previous managers name, god help you 🤣 #lufc

@AJDUFTY: You’ve just sung the ex managers name. What do you expect?

@calIumgee: gave him abuse all game and then expected him to come over and thank you for the ‘support’ at the end 😂😂😂

@WM_BFC: Start singing about Bielsa again ya big weirdos

@Boynton88: Last thing marsch needed was the fans to turn, fans never stopped all game go and applaud them ffs! Really want it to work for marsch but this isn’t looking good 🤦🏻‍♂️😫

@RickNorth_: Not a good look at all for big Jesse. Lose without landing a punch against bottom of the league and doesn’t even go to acknowledge the fans. I’m not looking forward to Elland Road on Sunday 😞

@NathanStanton16: They were all dancing about with American flags two weeks ago

@Elli0tttttt: Why are people bringing bielsa into this? He never came over to the fans anyway. When we win, Jesse is first over there beating his chest waving his arms about but now we’ve played terrible he’s hidden away? That’s why the fans are chanting this.

@FilbertStBlues: Well done to #LUFC fans for finding a third song. Always a good following and always loud, but only have 2 shit songs. Leeds, Leeds, Leeds and something about marching? Can’t understand the stupid accent. Went very quiet very quickly though. Not the fanbase it used to be. 🤫

@Jake_Harris15: Where was this when Bielsa NEVER came over to the fans after a terrible result, because there were plenty of them…. Honestly think it’s disgraceful how our fans treat Marsch #lufc

@LeedsVyt: I’d of fucked off straight down tunnel too after hearing the Bielsa chants. Divs.

@_ThatAnt_: What is it with fans wanting a bloke to come and wave. It’s proper weird
