Leeds fans disgusted at what Pontus Jansson did to Maghoma on his Brentford debut

Brentford’s Pontus Jansson made his Brentford debut yesterday, though it turned out to be a frustrating day for him and his side as they were defeated.

The Bees’ lost their league opener against Birmingham City by Kristian Pedersen thanks to his 18th minute thumping header to nick all the points at Griffin Park.

Tempers flared one point during the match after Jansson went shoulder to shoulder with Jacques Maghoma, only to send him flying into the stand of spectators.

The 28-year-old was filmed barging the player, only to then spark outrage and boos from the Brummies in the away end.

The former Leeds player got a slight talking to and escaped a booking from the referee, who had many a Birmingham player giving their thoughts on the shoulder barge.

Brentford’s director of football Rasmus Ankersen believes that Pontus Jansson can ‘flourish’ at Griffin Park.

He said: “He adds something else: more a backbone of the squad, experienced leadership.

“I know there have been some question marks about his character but we really like his character.

“We’ve done a lot of digging on this. We spoke to people who shared dressing rooms with him. All those things. We talked to him as well and tested some of the assumptions.

“We can really make him flourish even more in our environment.”

Next up for Brentford, it’s Middlesbrough away, who drew 3-3 in a thrilling encounter on Friday night.
