Lee Clark announces his resignation as Hartlepool United head coach during a press conference after his side lose 3-1 to Worthing.

Cory Adjetey-Brew (35′) and Ricky Aguiar (59′) had Worthing in control, before Will Harris set up a nervy finish by getting one back for hartlepool on 78 minutes, however, Jose Marquez grabbed a third for Worthing in injury time.

Following the weekend’s action, it sees Hartlepool sitting 19th in the National League with 9 points from 9 games played, Worthing are up to 10th with 14 points.

Lee Clark said in his final press conference, as reported by Hartlepool Mail: “There was no reaction to the result or the performance. All I want to say is I resign from my position with immediate effect.

“I wanted to give this club and the fans something to be proud of, what they deserve. I haven’t been able to do that unfortunately.

“I know what this club means, I said it at the start when I got the job. I was excited to take it and I wanted to be the man that got them back where they need to be and deserve to be.

“It hasn’t worked out. You’ve heard the reaction of the supporters. I took a long time out of the game and I wasn’t going to be coming back and getting an atmosphere like that.

“It’s not going to change and it’s not nice for the family and friends to listen to that.

“I wish whoever takes the job on success. I wish the fans all of the best. They’re a magnificent group of people.

“The people in behind the scenes, my staff, the people in the offices, they’re absolutely brilliant and the support I’ve had from the chairman, the owner, Chris Maxwell, it’s been fantastic.

“But you have to understand in this game, I’m nearly 54, you have to understand when things aren’t going your way.”

Here’s what Adam Hinshelwood had to say after the game: “So proud, so proud of the the entire club to have that many supporters come come and support us all this way up in the north-east and yeah, pleased with with how we played.

“I thought we grew into the game. I thought we could have been better second half to manage the game a bit better and probably made some more passes.

“Although it was a pass back to Taylor that sort of give them a bit of momentum back into the game, we’re disappointed that we haven’t kept a clean sheet today.

“But you know there’s some learnings and and I think we’re we’re learning um all the time and and we’re growing definitely as a group and you know there’s a good togetherness.

“Felt that in training yesterday on the way up and the journey and um that’s starting to show now where it matters on the pitch.”

@durhamchris1983: Thank goodness for that. An absolute joke of a manager & an absolute joke of an appointment. The alternative was Cattermole which is worrying. Those responsible for this also need chasing from the club. Absolute rotten frauds @Official_HUFC. Good riddance. However those who recruited him need to be gone as well as the alternative was Lee Cattermole.
