League One chairman threatens a serious lawsuit if season is declared null and void

League One chairman threatens a ‘serious lawsuit’ if the 2019/20 season is declared null and void due to the coronavirus.

The EFL are set to meet later this week to announce what their plans are, however, there are no indications that the season will be prematurely ended.

Both the league organisation and clubs are reported to be committed to completing the postponed fixtures, even if that means having to extend the season end into June or July.

Several pundits are suggesting that the 2019/20 season could be declared void, however, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony believes that won’t be an option.

His side are in a firm battle for promotion, and as mentioned, he insists he would not hesitate in taking legal action if their remaining fixtures were cancelled.

He said in a tweet: “A serious lawsuit would be my next step if voided happened but way too early for all that.

“Let’s focus on coming days/weeks ensuring we all responsibly look after our elders/those seriously affected & stay away from crowd environments etc & follow guidelines laid out.”

When asked if a lawsuit would be a success, MacAnthony replied: “Considering there would be a **** load of clubs joining me in it, I’d fancy our chances to reverse any such decision.”

Another user said: “Just had my upcoming theatre show cancelled….perhaps I should start a class action and sue them too? Maybe sue Sainsbury’s because they had no soap, eggs or chicken earlier??”

Again Darragh wrote back: “Keep the dumb tweets coming pal. Absolute nonsense.”
