Larsson and Kuyt close to becoming League One side’s new managerial team

It have been announced tonight that Henrik Larsson and Dirk Kuyt are close to becoming Southend United’s new managerial team.

Larsson is said the replace Gary Waddock and Dirk Kuyt would be assistant with Tommy Johnson expected to be involved in the set up too.

It was recently revealed that the duo were part of a group consisting of Dennis Bergkamp and Ronald Koeman who were trying to buy Wycombe Wanderers.

48 year old Larsson has been manager of Landskrona BoIS, Högaborg (assistant), Falkenberg, Ängelholm (assistant) and Helsingborg.

It comes after the Shrimpers lost 4-1 against AFC Wimbledon at home this afternoon, leaving them 22nd in the League One table, losing 10 of their last 12 matches.

Caretaker Gary Waddock said the next Southend boss will face a tough task on their hands but didn’t know when the appointment would be made.

He said after the defeat today: “The results show it’s not been good enough and we know that,” said Waddock.

“The players will have to take responsibility too.

“We’ve had experienced people in here and the results haven’t changed as such so this is a tough job for anyone really.

“I don’t know.

“The chairman has put a statement out and whatever comes of that this week will be the decision.

“But I don’t know any more than you do.”
