Kieran Trippier explains what happened when he confronted Newcastle fan at full time

Kieran Trippier explains what happened when he confronted a Newcastle fan at full time after losing 2-0 away to Bournemouth on Saturday.

Dominic Solanke’s second-half double sees Bournemouth take full advantage of a depleted injury-hit Newcastle, who have their seven-match unbeaten run in Premier League ended.

The Magpies full-back Trippier insist that fans don’t need to panic after their defeat with his side sitting 7th in the table with 20 points from 12 games played.

Newcastle captain Kieran Trippier, speaking to the Premier League Productions: “I would not say it is a shock, Bournemouth are a good team you always respect the opposition and they played a good game today and we were not ourselves.

“We have to think about it over the international break and come back. Bournemouth had a good game plan and deserved to win the game.”

On debutants Lewis Miley and Ben Parkinson: “Lewis and Ben have trained well. This is when they have to be ready as they are going to have opportunities. Good to have young lads coming through the club.”

On speaking to fans after the game: “It was just one of those where they were emotional and they have travelled far – we were having a chat.

“A message to the fans we apologise for this result and the lads are giving everything in the circumstances the lads are in.

“We are not panicking and we must stick together.

“The international break has come at the right time for the team and to have some down time and refresh then come back. After the break it will be relentless again.”

Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier speaking to Sky Sports: “Yeah it was obviously frustrating. We weren’t ourselves. We were way off it and Bournemouth deserved the win.

“They are a good side. We knew it would be tough coming here. We tried to play our way under the circumstances – but there’s no excuses.

“That’s the reality. We wanted to play Champions League football and in every competition. This is what we want. We’ve lost a lot of players but this is when we need to stand up and give even more. The international break has come at a good time for us.

“We fell into their traps and made it like a basketball game. We needed to stamp our authority. We need to come back with a clear mind for Chelsea in the Premier League.

“It’s a great experience for the young lads. We will need everyone. They have trained well, handled themselves well and we will need that.

“We have a few weeks for the lads who are injured to get fit again. It’s the perfect time [for the international break].

“The fans are emotional, they have travelled a long way. I had a chat with one of them, saying we are giving everything and there’s no need to panic. We got beat and we apologise for that result but the lads are giving everything.”

Player ratings (as per Sky Sports)

Bournemouth: Neto (7); Aarons (7), Zabarnyi (7), Senesi (7), Kelly (7); Christie (8), Cook (8); Semenyo (7), Kluivert (6), Tavernier (7); Solanke (9).

Subs:Sinisterra (7), Smith (6), Ouattara (n/a), Rothwell (n/a).

Newcastle: Pope (8); Trippier (6), Lascelles (6), Schar (6), Hall (5); Longstaff (6), Miley (6), Willock (5); Almiron (6), Gordon (6), Joelinton (5).

Subs: Ritchie (5), Livramento (6), Parkinson (6), Krafth (n/a).

Player of the match: Dominic Solanke

Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke, speaking to Premier League Productions after the game: “We knew it was going to be difficult game today Newcastle are a top side and they have been really good the past few seasons.

“We knew they have had a heavy schedule and wanted to catch them quick and be more physical than them. I think we did well today.”

On his form this season: “I think we have not had the best of starts. A new manager coming in and we have had to adapt, we have had a tough schedule but we believe in ourselves and we know we have the team to compete in every game.

“We have not shown that all season, but we showed it today.”

On the VAR check for his goal: “I do not know what they were checking, I was quite nervous thankfully the check got cleared and it is another goal.”

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC MOTD: “It was just a game too far and we couldn’t respond. Bournemouth played well but we were well below par.

“It was a tough afternoon. We weren’t ourselves in possession or out of possession. If you can’t do that at this level, it will be a difficult day. When we are under fatigue and stretched, we usually respond better. We need to dust ourselves down and come back in strong.

“I don’t know. Miguel Almiron’s looks like a hamstring problem. It’s unclear how Fabian Schar and Sean Longstaff are feeling.

“Nick Pope made some great saves for us and he needed to as we were leaking chances. Jamaal Lascelles did great in the air too but I don’t think there were too many bright sparks. We were well off it.

“We have a whole host of players and we need them back as soon as we can. We have a busy December as well so it’s not a good mix but something we have to get used to.”

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola speaking to BBC MOTD: “Yes, I’m obviously happy because we needed these three points but even happier with the performance. The players deserve it. We kept pushing and we deserved it.

“It was key for us to make them feel like it won’t be an easy game for them and make them feel uncomfortable under pressure. They play quite open and in transitional games, but that is a style that suits us.

“I think the substitutes gave us this energy and we had spaces for the counter-attack. It was becoming dangerous. We had chances to close the game – score a third one and finish it – but luckily we kept our clean sheet and could win the game.

“Dominic Solanke has been very good for us since the beginning of the season. He not only gives us goals, he gives us a lot of work, he is always a threat in the space and is good covering the ball. He is a pleasure to have him in the team.”

Here’s what Twitter users had to say as Kieran Trippier explains what happened when he confronted Newcastle fan at full time…

@AaronBastani: I like someone with the bottle to talk to fans like that in a compact ground like the vitality. Sure I’m in a minority!

@thefundamental7: He’s a top pro, he cares for the club, yes he’s been below his high standards these past few games but he doesn’t need telling from anyone. Refresh and regroup 🙌

@cam_nufc1: Yeah he bottled that he knew Trippier was right lmao

@__Hodgy__: Boys are knackered man. I’m with Tripps here. How do you know what players are feeling? How many’s continuing on with injuries etc?

@WAJG_96: Newcastle beat Arsenal literally a week ago lost to a superior Dortmund in the champions league and their injury hit fatigue side lost today, it happens yet the fans are in meltdown like they have some divine right to win every game! Reality check needed

@PeteSword_: Fans singing “we’ll support you ever more” before slagging the team… embarrassing man

@AdamNUFC_: Unreal from Trippier, the moron in the crowd absolutely shat himself 🤣

@toonchants: 100% Trippier. Grief pending but stop being entitled cunts like Manchester Reds fans. Hopefully not, but if this sort of thing carries on, Man City atmosphere pending!

@gregofallgregs: He should have cantona’d those fans. That Newcastle team is absolute shite bar 1 or 2, yet they’ve been playing like a top 4 team for 18 months. 110% effort from the players every week

@Im_RobM: Imagine giving #NUFC’s best signing post takeover grief in a t-shirt and body warmer combo. Not one of us.

@CityGroundShelf: Wish we could turn on our lot playing European football, being in a domestic cup competition & comfortably in the top 8 of the Premier League. Christ.

@_harrymcbeth: Can’t believe I’m saying it but he’s right. One season performing well birthing a fan base now completely expectant of results. One poor showing with an injury crisis and they’re up in arms. There’ll be half season tickets going for free soon. They’ve got their club back though.

@SiGallagher: I’m not being funny, but the entitled element of our fanbase is the worst thing to happen to the past 2 years.

@abbey1892: Hope Trippier knows this prick doesn’t represent the rest of us
