Jurgen Klopp makes joke on Newcastle with ‘rule’ claim and fired a dig at Chelsea over speculation

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes joke on Newcastle United with a ‘rule’ claim and also fired a dig at Chelsea over recent speculation.

It came after the 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with Klopp questioned if he understood the new rule and joked: “It’s like that in the Champions League anyway. I think it’s only a problem for one team – Newcastle! Sorry!”

Klopp’s comments easily cause a stir ahead of their meeting with Newcastle in two weeks time when Liverpool travel up to St James’ Park.

The two dugouts came to trouble at Anfield just 12 months ago with Liverpool nicking a last minute winner and both clubs were fined by the FA after objects were thrown.

Speaking about the rule changes, Howe had said that it was interesting that the Premier League had brought in a rule that was already in place.

After beating Villa 5-1, Howe said: “The main change is not so much for the players, it’s more for us.

“Jason would step forward the majority of the time at set-plays, corners, free-kicks and then I’d have a chance to go back and speak with my other staff.

“They’re analysing loads of different things at a very high pace, so we’re just dovetailing in and out and trying to take on as much information as we can.”

Then opening weekend has seen referees and officials clamping down on new rule changes, while both Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall were heavily monitored by fourth official Graham Scott during the game against Aston Villa. Coach Graeme Jones was also sent back to the dugout towards the end.

Meanwhile, Klopp was also asked about Chelsea’s interest in Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia amid reports on Monday that Liverpool have agreed a deal worth £60 million for highly-rated Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

However, they face competition from Chelsea, who also want both Lavia and Moises Caicedo this summer, according to Sky Sports.

This comes after Mauricio Pochettino’s side agreed a British record deal of around £100 million plus £15 million in performance-related add-ons for Caicedo ahead of a scheduled medical on Monday.

Caicedo had been linked with a transfer to Liverpool, even Jurgen Klopp said a deal had been agreed in a press conference last week, however now a switch to Chelsea is very likely.

Klopp was asked about the two in his latest press conference.

“A lot of Chelsea and Liverpool fans were talking before the game about transfers, with Caicedo and Lavia, and it seems both teams are interested,” one reporter asked.

He adds: “Is there anything you can say to enlighten people of what may or may not happen?”

Klopp replied: “Where’s the camera? No [I cannot say anything],” he said. “Oh, that [new signings] is what the Chelsea manager wants, and usually they get it… I’ve got nothing to say about it to be honest. I’m sorry.”

Here’s how social media users reacted as Jurgen Klopp makes a joke at Newcastle with a ‘rule’ claim and makes a dig at Chelsea over speculation…

@GTH88: Obviously didn’t watch the Arsenal game when at times there were 3 in Arsenal Technical area. To be fair with Klopp Klopps huge ego there’s no room for anyone else but him in the technical area.

@toon_iain: Wasn’t a problem yesterday 🤣🤣🤣

@johnrscott9: Pre match team talk sorted for Eddie Howe in two weeks time

@jrea1986: Getting under his skin. Love it

@EssJay1113: Turns out, not really a problem

@Mosey8: Rattled

@kevinsh1958: Bitter and twisted man.

@SE_Magpie: Knob head laaaaaa!

@leecartwright94: Wasn’t the rule brought in because of his behaviour at the back end of last season when he was given a 2 game suspension? How many did Howe and Tindall get?

@HotspurReiver: Great that we’ve already won the mind games against him – has been found out

@BobbyL6969: I quite liked him when he first came to the premier league but I now find him one of the biggest whoppers ever to be involved in football. Zero class. #NUFC

@mags_mighty: Rent free in his head … Klopp is rattled. What a complete cunt.

@CarlaNufc92: We live rent free in Klippertys head, how many times has Eddie Howe mentioned Liverpool… Zero. How many times has klipperty mentioned Newcastle, City etc fucking dozens

@SierraPapaG: Despise him me like, fuck him and his ceiling. #NUFC

@mark_tserkezie: What an absolute desperate embarrassment this bloke is in so many ways. The press love him as he turning Liverpool into a laughing stock of a club that used to be top class

@sarahhunter25: I’d be very embarrassed if Klopp was our manager. He acts like a spoilt child spitting out his dummy when things don’t go his way. Bloody idiot.

@adamgradwell: I can’t wait for NUFC to wipe the smile of this blokes face next week.

@Sandancer1977: Did anyone else notice Trent Alexander Arnold getting booked for time wasting today? I guess the Anfield crowd will be booing him from now on. They’re very principled you know, they don’t like that sort of thing!!! 😂

@alanparkins74: Hate, makes us stronger, Keep it up people.
