Jurgen Klopp hits back at Pep Guardiola’s claim that ‘everyone supports Liverpool’ over Man City as the title race continues.
The German boss says he doesn’t recognise Pep’s assessment that everyone in the country wants Liverpool to win the Premier League title instead, suggesting that the Blues manager may regret his comments in the near future.
Guardiola made the comment after his side moved three points ahead of Liverpool with three games remaining, 24 hours after Klopp had criticised Tottenham’s playing style in their 1-1 draw at Anfield before saying his shouldn’t have said this a few days later.
🗣️ “Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everyone… Our destiny is in our hands, this is important.”

Guardiola had said: “Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everyone. Of course because Liverpool has an incredible history in European competition.
“Not in the Premier League, because they have won one in 30 years, but it is not a problem at all. Liverpool are alongside (Manchester) United as the most important team in terms of titles, legacy, history, dramas for many, many things. But we have since the last 11 or 12 years been there. I know sometimes we are uncomfortable, but I don’t care if the people want Liverpool to win more than us. It is not an issue.”
Speaking in his press conference ahead of the Reds’ trip to Aston Villa on Tuesday, Klopp was questioned about Guardiola’s comments and likened them to his own criticism of Spurs.
“I live in Liverpool so yes, here, a lot of people want us to win the league,” said Klopp. “That’s true but even here it’s probably only 50 per cent. The other guys [Everton] were involved in another fight, at least until yesterday.
“As a manager, and I had this experience only recently after a game, we are massively influenced by the game. I said, and would I say it again? No. I said after the game, ‘they play like they play and are still only fifth’. It felt good in that moment but was wrong. It was my feeling in that moment. I couldn’t respect Antonio [Conte] more and what he’s doing. My god, how he organises teams.
“I don’t exactly know the situation Pep was in. After getting knocked out of the Champions League, it’s already difficult enough to take. But of course Liverpool made it to the final.
“Then you have, ‘but they played Villarreal and we play Real!’ And you say what you say. And he’s right on top of that! I was right with these plays and Tottenham still and he’s right we only win the Premier League once.
“I’ve no idea if the whole country is supporting us, I don’t know that. It’s not the feeling I get when we go to other places and play there. It’s actually the opposite but maybe he knows more about it than me.”

Klopp has since admitted he was ‘wrong’ to criticise Conte and Spurs’ style of play in the draw at Anfield.
As managers, and I had this experience recently, after a game we are obviously… we are massively influenced by the game, the situation and stuff like this.
‘Would I say it again? No. I said after the game, ‘They play like they play and are still only fifth’. It felt good in that moment but anyway [it was] wrong.
‘But it was just my feeling in that moment. I could not respect Antonio more, what he is doing and how he organises teams.’
Fans reacted as Jurgen Klopp hits back at Pep Guardiola’s claim that ‘everyone supports Liverpool’…
@kennyrushy22: What a difference between people/managers,everyone would think we are 3 points ahead and not behind. This might just cost them the league as it brings out a bitterness even when they are ahead.
@adaly1892: Pep finally snaps taken getting knocked out the CL out on #LFC we are probably the most hated club in this country ! But I think people respect what Klopp has done with @LFC with the budgets he’s had vs the billionaire squad of players City have assembled thats the difference
@PW8383: Klopp nailed the root of Guardiola’s anger in one there 👍
@srtm19: Nonsense I wouldn’t support them if they were the last team on earth and played in my back garden
@bkelly776: That’s the point. Pep is chatting wham.
@JAMESFF14527589: He is so rattled 🤣😂 literally everyone hates Liverpool
@mizgans: Really really really trying hard to have a rivalry with a club that has way more historical significance in the country than the plastic club he manages.
@jarrowtoffee: Pep actually speaks the truth. You could hear the disappointment in Tyler’s voice with each goal. Sky and @premierleague are supposed to unbiased. But the bias is there for everyone to see.
@Bookey81: He’s so obsessed with Liverpool 😂😂😂
@KevOrf_5: I love Klopp. What a guy.
@Aussiepool1: What a classy man. Spot on with His response to Pep. All good.
@matlilly83: This man is obsessed with Liverpool!!! Actually Pep everyone wants City to win because frankly they don’t care about City they would rather see Liverpool not win anything
@cattytubeit23: Pep inherited a title winning squad, spent 950m, broke FFP rules and won the title. Respect the man
@barlowlfc89: 😂😂 chats some shite this fella
@safaa631: I love Klopp and his little digs at everyone 🤣🤣 He allowed pep’s comments about everyone in the country supporting Liverpool coz he said ‘it must’ve been difficult after just being knocked out the champions league’ he had to bring it up 🤣
