Joey Barton in a further swipe at female football pundits in the mens game as Alex Scott takes aim while live on the BBC.
Alex Scott took aim with a dig back to remarks by Joey Barton over his rant in which he says she has “no authority” to speak on men’s football.
She is just one of many pundits he has singled out by Barton, as the fallout continues and his tweets continue to be posted online.
Barton has been called out by the likes of Laura Woods, Bianca Westwood and even appeared on Talk TV with Piers Morgan last week.
Alex Scott first said that said she “doesn’t want to give Joey Barton oxygen”, but with women’s football on TV over the weekend, she now taken aim, earned huge praise.
She said: “Join us next week as it’s Manchester United taking on Liverpool. And just before we say goodbye to all the women in football in front of the camera, behind it, to the players on the pitch, to everyone that attends game, keep being the role models that you continue to be, to all those young girls that are told, ‘no you can’t’, football is a better place with us all in it. Goodbye.”
Absolutely this – total class @AlexScott 🙌🏽👏🏽 pic.twitter.com/P8sIkwu27E

Barton criticised female pundits commenting on the men’s professional game, but then doubled down on Piers Morgan Uncensored having been pressed on the capabilities of Scott, who has a reputation for being an a regular pundit across a number of different platforms.
“She hasn’t played in it [the men’s game],” Barton said to Morgan.
“One is 200 years old and one is about 40 years old. It’s the same rules but football is about a lot more than rule. The games are at two different speeds.”
On Sunday, she alongside other female pundits, looked down the camera and issued a message to Barton.
Chelsea boss Emma Hayes also spoke out, saying that misogyny and bullying are issues that women are “routinely used to dealing with” in football.
“Male privilege has been something that’s always been at the centre of football in this country,” Hayes said at a press conference.
“You only have to see scores of women across the internet or in the business – whether you’re a presenter, you’re a coach or a player – to realise we’re routinely used to dealing with systemic misogyny, bullying and behaviour that has been pretty normal for a large part of the football public.
“I think when it comes to the sport of football in this case, we have to remember that society isn’t always as well represented across the media or across the game in coaching or playing etc. If you haven’t experienced systemic misogyny, like lots of us have, you can’t for one moment understand how detrimental some of these conversations are, knowing that anything anyone says just enables an absolute pile-on, particularly on social media.”

On Sunday afternoon, Joey Barton was back on Twitter, uploading footage and captioned it: “Now contrast these two commentaries @laura_woodsy and @beewestwood against Alan Smith on @SkySportsPL this is part 1. #tokenism #wokenism #smokenism 💩
“Part 2. The technical detail. The educational part. This is just in the last hour. I am against tokenism and I am for high journalistic standards. @laura_woodsy @beewestwood @pearlythingz #icuminpeace ☮️
“Contrast that to the 2nd half of viewing. I switched to watch @Everton vs @ChelseaFC on Optus Sport. Male commentator and ex-player but this time female.
“Honestly, ruined it. She told me nothing that I couldn’t see on the screen with my eyes. It was awkward. No rapport built with playing partner. Like listening to bad karaoke. When she did contribute some technical info, it was wrong. Factually wrong.😑 And she couldn’t be challenged or corrected.🤯
“Why? For fearing of the Woke nonsense. The Male was either competent and afraid. Or equally as incompetent for not correcting it. 🤯
“Dont get me started on the tone, the timing and delivery 🤯
“It wasn’t the civilians fault at all.
“Did he know enough to correct it, I wondered?
“Is it the fault of the ex- player?
“This will shock you all.
‘No.
“Shes just not good enough.
“Like me driving in the Formula One next Sunday. She’s just not qualified. She’s not played the same game. Sorry. She’s driving sexism and misogyny. #tokenism
“2 out of 10.
“Hard not to hit mute button.
“Not good enough. She needed help. Ex-player male could have pulled her out the shite. Like all good musicians do.
“Some people just can’t sing despite what box they tick. ✅
“#irestmycase
“You won’t ‘Debate’ or ‘Discuss’ that?
“@laura_woodsy @beewestwood
“I bet the Superstar @pearlythingz will?
“#meritocracyrules 👑💪
“2nd game. @SpursOfficial vs my old team @NUFC
“Post Match
“@KellyCates presenting. Who I think is superb! She’s earned the right. Footballing Royalty.
“Added lovely change of tone. Added great information of stats. Posed good questions. Didn’t offer anything technical or opinions on the game. Wasn’t about her. Top class.
“Michael Dawson, bit wooden but added something.
“Jamie Redknapp, nice bit of eye candy. Didn’t tell you much told but what he did say was correct. Had great tone and done the job.
“Not fantastic from the two lads. Didn’t seem great chemistry or excitement between them. But solid enough
“6 out of 10.
“Not the Female civilians fault. She was 9 out of 10.
“The Men pulled it down.
“Over to @peterdrury_ and @GNev2 now.
“They won’t let you down. You just know it already. Time served. There on merit. Equity in the Men’s game. Trust them to deliver.
“I bet I don’t mute this.
“Well done @SkySportsPL”

Jaydee Dyer had his say: “Honestly, just leave the game @Joey7Barton 🤮 Your actions & thoughts continue to prove you’re a vile human with 1840 ideals.
“Average player. Average manager. Go retire on a 🏝 & DONT watch the game.
“Football & society is progressing and you’re still in your cave.”
@Joey7Barton: Right Dickhead. @J_Dyer_Official
“You apologising today?
“Or am I making you famous?

And so it goes on, fans have reacted with Joey Barton in a further swipe at female football pundits in the mens game as Alex Scott takes aim…
@Peage1: Joey, consider them as trailblazers, paving the way for future generations of girls interested in football punditry. While the quality might not always be perfect now, it’s a crucial step to expand the talent pool. As more girls engage in co-commentary and punditry, the best among them will naturally rise to the top, just as it works for men. It’s a process of taking a step back to ultimately move forward and ensure a diverse and skilled pool of voices in football commentary.
@Sparkyynwa: Yes yes yes @AlexScott as a father of a young lady listening to bellends like Joey Barton say she shouldn’t be allowed to do something makes my blood boil. I’d sooner listen to Alex speaking than Barton any day of the week!
@Chloe_pearce14: Leave Laura, Bianca and all the other women working in football alone. This is beyond the point of it being harassment now, give it a rest!
@JohnnyFitz1: Literally nobody is arguing about women covering women’s matches. I’m no fan of Joey Barton either, but why ex female players who never played Top Level mens football are telling us about top level mens football is the point. Then the double standard of all women presenting WSL
@b3thabson: Absolutely. I’ve only ever had the odd comment made and questions asked following football as a lass usually by lads that have never entered a bloody stadium. Football is there for everyone to enjoy, you’ve got to be a special breed to think otherwise. ❤️
@DanielUTB79: He got a point with what he said though
@YouAreMyArsenal: I am torn on saying anything about Joey Barton on one hand it needs to be loudly refuted but on the other it gives him the attention he’s clearly craving. I coach young women. I have a U13 team with a player already in our national pool. She knows more about football than he will
@FamandFooty: Well said. I would always prefer to listen to @AlexScott than the irrelevant Joey thug Barton who is just trying to promote his crappy podcast.
@MeganGarbutt03: Absolutely class outro from Alex Scott 👏🏻 Football is a better place with us in it 🫶
@GlenHartley: Perfectly put, shame it’s stemmed from people being judgemental not curious
@IanKenyon: This. F^ck Joey Barton and all the other tw^ts who don’t have a clue about their privilege. Play the game, and both inspire and be inspired, no matter what your gender.
@barberk3012: After hearing Joey Barton’s words plastered all over this week. This is top tier from Alex 👏
Joey Barton shouldn’t be seen near a job in football again. I’m just sick of it.
