Joey Barton doesn’t hold back in response to being charged by police over tweets about Eni Aluko

Joey Barton doesn’t hold back as he gives his response to being charged by police over tweets he made about Eni Aluko.

Joey Barton faces charges from the police for allegedly making malicious communications online between the 1st and 18th of January, according to Cheshire Police.

Back in January, the broadcaster criticised Barton after he compared female pundits Eni Aluko and Lucy Ward to serial killers Fred and Rose West after Crystal Palace’s 0-0 draw with Everton in the FA Cup.

He said after reports emerged on Monday (22nd July): “Hopefully @elonmusk will now step up to the plate. He said he’d protect freedom of speech on this platform.

“The lawfare system in the UK being used to target people who have a dissenting voice.

“You can’t even tell someone who is under qualified and clearly not good enough, that she’s not good at her job.

“If you do they’ll charge you. 😭😭😭

“It doesn’t even bother me anymore, they can send me to prison if they want. It’s an absolute farce.

“When police are running from rioter’s in Leeds and London but they’re policing tweets. Burglary’s not being investigated. Thefts not being investigated. Grooming gangs going unchecked for years. But if you tweet something the establishment don’t like, the law will knock down your door!

“Absolutely mental.

“The system is failing. I look forward to the days in court.

“Shall I start another GoFundMe and we’ll give the proceeds to another charity?

“Let’s show Eni and her ilk, how much they’re is disliked.”

The 41 year old confirmed the charges in a tweet, stating that they were related to his tweets about Eni Aluko and if he is found guilty, he could potentially be sentenced to up to two years in prison and/or receive an unlimited fine.

He said: “I’m up next month… for ‘malicious communications’ charge at Warrington Mag for Eni Aluko tweets.

“Crazy times we’re living in. Haven’t the police got enough on their hands? British system is becoming a Banana Republic. Lawfare used against its own citizens for having a dissenting voice. Not quite North Korea yet but won’t be long. Viva La Revolution.”

In a statement, a force spokesman said a man from Widnes had been “summoned to court to face charges of malicious communications” and add that after a police investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) had “authorised the charges for Joseph Barton”.

The spokesman said the ex-footballer had been due to appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on the 30th of July.

Barton will appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday the 30th of July.

ITV condemned his views, describing it as ‘shameful’ while Gary Neville tweeted in support of the broadcaster, adding that Barton had gone ‘too far’.

ITV said in a statement at the time: “For Joey Barton, an ex-professional player with a significant social media presence, to target two of our pundits, Eni Aluko and Lucy Ward, with such vindictive remarks based on gender and to invoke the names of serial killers in doing so is clearly contemptible and shameful on his part. Football is for everyone.”

Gary Neville wrote: “Well done ITV. It’s gone too far this and mentioning serial killers is quite simply incredible. My daughters have watched Salford City with me for 10 years and like to comment on football, my mum was kicked out of the football team ( boys in the 1960’s) and stopped playing due to mysogyny , my sister struggled for funding for her sport for years and my brother was mocked when he took over the England women’s team. I come from a family that has fought these issues for years and I’ve witnessed it first hand. All this does is just discourage and it’s not the way forward. It’s bloody hard work for Women to succeed in sport and media as it is without this stuff. ❤️”

Barton replied to Neville, writing: “Gary, please keep your head down or you will get emptied as well. I know they pay your wages and I don’t want to have to put you away. Worry about one of the other 3758 business things you’ve got going on. I’ll decide when it’s gone too far. Not you. 👑 👍”

Barton also hit back at ITV: “Shut up you fucking idiots. Keep them off the tele. They’re ruining the game for everyone of us.

“It’s what happens when you force under qualified, under prepared, tokenistic people onto us.

“I will be calling them all serial killers from now on. Every clip you fuckers put out.

“Told you, I don’t care anymore. We’ve all had enough of your ‘Woke’, ‘DEI’ bullshit.

“I hope everyone who agrees with me, gets right after your social media every time you force this nonsense on us. 👍

“I tried to play nice, you didn’t listen. 👑”
