Joey Barton has been adjudged to be offering out Lincoln City players live on air as BBC radio are forced to apologise for what he said.
The Imps’ impressive home form goes on with a win over the 10-man Bristol Rovers in League One on Saturday afternoon.
Regan Poole got his first league goal of the season to ensured that the Imps’ continued their remarkable run of not losing at Sincil Bank this term.
Mark Kennedy’s team won back-to-back league games for only the second time this year with Joey Barton and his Rovers losing their fourth game on the spin since the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe produced a top save, tipping Paudie O’Connor’s header over the bar, however he couldn’t prevent Poole from scoring in the 15th minute.
Balcombe kept it at just the one goal going into the break with a double save to keep Ed Bishop and Poole out, before denying Ben House on the verge of half time.
In the 42nd minute, visitors’ Ryan Loft was shown a red card for an apparent elbow against Imps’ stopper Carl Rushworth.
Anthony Evans’ free-kick was kept out by Rushworth with a great save in the second half, then John Marquis’ attempt at getting on the scoresheet was also prevented, again with thanks from the keeper.
An audio clip surfaced on social media with Joey Barton caught in the background saying what fans believe him to be saying ‘I’ll absolutely finish ya mate’. The sound needs to be turned up to the max to make it out…
A reporter for BBC Radio Lincolnshire says before getting analysis of the game: “You’re erm. You’re live on the radio thanks, that’s just Joey Barton, can apologise for his used of language there.”

Mark Kennedy has applauded the composed performance from Regan Poole against Bristol Rovers.
He said via the Lincoln website: “Regan’s availability to train and perform is sky high, and he is deservedly the captain of the club.
“The job he has done for the team has been exceptional this year and he deserves a huge amount of credit.”
“I keep saying to the lads not to underestimate the power of clean sheets because normally you can’t win games without them.”
He added: “Back-to-back wins are massive, our style of play was really offensive and I thought we pressed excellently.
“I am particularly pleased for the group that they get the rewards they deserve. If we keep doing what we’re doing and believe in the process, the evidence of that work usually shows.”
Joey Barton said, as per Bristol Live: “It’s tough. The goal we conceded is a foul, not that anyone will care because we’ve lost the game of football. It’s a rugby tackle in the box and where the ball was put in was where James Connolly would have been had he not been pulled to the ground.
“The official misses it and to compound it, we go up the other end. I don’t know what Lofty is doing, he’s saying he’s just trying to protect himself with the keeper coming out.
“The linesman, who is far away as anybody on the opposite side, decides it’s a swinging elbow and they have dismissed him for what must be violent conduct. We’ve got a few different angles that show the contact that was made, which was minimal if any, and we’ll appeal that instantly because we’ll need to if we want him available for Tuesday night.
“We’ll also be sending a few clips. MK did it do us the other day with Sam Finley’s retrospective ban, and there is an elbow in there from (Lewis) Montsma which is beyond the threshold for me. That’s why our players were aggrieved, but nothing given. The linesman misses it and it’s really frustrating.
“I think we had two (penalties not given). Aaron thinks it is and Harry thinks it could have been, but we were never going to get anything off the geezer today.
“Again, it’s soul-destroying. You will text Mike Jones (head of EFL referees) and the PGMOL will send their written reasons back.
“Unfortunately we’re four defeats on the spin and we have nothing to show for it apart from the character and spirit which was shown by a really young group today.
“That will stand us in good stead. I have seen loads of things I am really proud of from my players today. I cannot fault them today and we’ll be better for that.”

@DanStevens1986: Professional as always.
@rmace1986: One day Joey is gonna mouth off to the wrong fella, and someone will absolutely fill him in. When it happens, it should be a public holiday
@8udge: He’ll be emptying his office again soon 👀
@PaulCarrott3: How is he manager of a football club?!
@suzystephen1: Disgusting behaviour. Right or wrong decision leave it on the pitch. Don’t be consecutively losing and then blame someone else.
@ELJones95: Truly is the gift that keeps on giving 🥲🥲
@lloydy1712: Stay classy joey 🤣🤣🤣
@tnekmail: He doesn’t change, does he?
@Lewispaul__: Head loss 🤣
@LeeJSibbert: Is there a worse bloke in football 😂 average player, worse manager.
@markmcburney: Embarrassing. Proper bully behaviour. Barton has created this reputation on picking on people he sees as weak who won’t fight back. Will give me no end of pleasure when he picks on the wrong one someday.
@AndyPearson68: Absolute embarrassment still living in Rheadys shadow 👊
@bcfc_jxck: Such a classy bloke
@impyblue: He’s box office. Need character’s in the game. At least he shows some passion

@BerbaTuckz: My gaffer 🤣🤣
@JakeW2311: Love it 🤣
@daleskitt: Once a prick, always a prick.
@bcfc_kingers: What a stupid prick 😭
@locko98: Hasn’t learned his lesson, never will. Absolutely insane that this man hasn’t been blacklisted from the game.
