Jeff Stelling apologises after being pranked by ‘despicable text’ from vile online troll

Jeff Stelling apologises after being pranked by a ‘despicable text’ from a vile online troll while he was presenting on talkSPORT.

He issued on-air apology after falling for a hoax involving a message about a deceased football fan, with the incident highlighted on Twitter, where Jeff also said sorry.

@Billybrigh20993 wrote: “Morning Jeff and Ally. Please can you shout out all the Cardiff City fans after a very easy win over Swansea town on the weekend? South Wales is blue. Cheers, Terry Coles.”

Welsh Local Football (@Pel_DroedCymru) tweeted: “@talkSPORT @JeffStelling You have dropped an absolute clanger this morning with your Cardiff City message. You may want to look up Terry Coles. Disgusting behaviour.”

Upon being made aware, Jeff Stelling replied: “I apologise as I had no idea. It was a despicable text.”

Terry Coles was a Swansea City fan who tragically died in 2000 after being trampled by a police horse near Rotherham’s football ground.

His death is commemorated annually by Swansea City and supporters, highlighting his memory on social media and in various tributes.

Terry was trampled to death by a South Yorkshire Police horse in the narrow lanes leading to Millmoor before the club’s Third Division Championship decider at Rotherham United on May 6, 2000.

The 42-year-old father of two sadly passed away in hospital from spleen and kidney injuries, and after an inquest three years later, the jury returned a verdict of accidental death.

He left a wife, Christine, and two children, Matthew and Natalie.

A review by the Independent Police Complaints Commission found the actions of three officers amounted to “a failure of duty” after the horses cantered down a confined lane packed with supporters at the back of the ground.

Unfortunately, a civil court case undertaken by the family failed amongst further calls to review the evidence surrounding the incident.

This weekend saw Cardiff City beat Swansea City 3-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday afternoon; a double from Callum Robinson steering Bluebirds to a much needed Championship victory, Dimitrios Goutas added a third on 67 minutes.

It ended a run of six games without a home win for Cardiff while it was also their biggest league victory over the Swans since winning 5-0 at Ninian Park in April 1965.

Cardiff’s assistant manager Tom Ramasut said after the game, per Sky Sports: “It’s been an increasingly difficult week. Omer drove back home on Wednesday to spend some time with his father.

“He took training on Thursday, did the (pre-match) media, signed Yousef (Salech), and drove back home to spend the last moments with his father. He then drove back down and prepared for the game on Friday.

“What’s been such a warming feeling is the support he’s had from the players and staff – the togetherness we’ve shown – and he’s taken a lot of comfort from that.”

Swansea’s Luke Williams meanwhile said: “From our point of view it’s pathetic. If we think that in any way that’s going to in some way take attention away from a shoddy performance, we’re very much mistaken.

“The time for fighting was on the pitch, fighting for the ball, fighting for our fans to make one more run forward, make one more tackle, jump for one more header.

“To try to make more one more action to the box, to try to make one more recovery run when your legs have gone.

“That’s fighting, not scrapping on the pitch and swearing and pushing.”

Twitter users gave their reaction as Jeff Stelling apologises after being pranked by a ‘despicable text’ from a vile online troll…
