Jamie Carragher steps in to sponsor non league side

There was praise for Jamie Carragher on Monday as he steps in to sponsor non league side Marine ahead of their FA Cup game against Spurs.

Jose Mourinho will bring his Premier League side to the area of Crosby on Sunday for the third round tie which will see the largest gap between two teams in the history of the competition.

Eighth-tier Marine were left disappointed when a previous sponsor pulled out of their commitment before the tie, hoever up stepped Carragher and his JC23 Foundation charity who will brand the dugouts and pre-match training wear.

MARINE CLUB STATEMENT:

Marine FC announce that Liverpool Football Club legend Jamie Carragher has stepped in to sponsor the Marine FC dugouts & pre-match warm up tops, through his charity the JC23 Foundation.

Jamie, a Crosby resident, and a regular visitor to Marine over recent seasons, decided to help after a previous sponsor pulled out at the final moment.

The JC23 Foundation helps over 1,000 good causes each year including sick, disabled and disadvantaged children as well as other community organisations.

Marine Chairman Paul Leary said “We are indebted to Jamie and the JC23 Foundation for their support in this magical game for Marine. The JC23 Foundation do magnificent work in helping young people not just in Liverpool but right across the world. We are proud to partner with them on this special occasion.”

With no fans allowed at Marine, the club wrote: “Following today’s Government announcement moving the Liverpool City Region in to Tier 3, the club have had confirmation that the Emirates FA Cup Third Round tie v Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 10th January (5pm) will be behind closed doors.

“This is a huge disappointment for all involved with the club but safety must always be paramount.

“A further announcement will be made as soon as possible regarding refunds for tickets already purchased.”

Ready for that special game, Marine are now selling something that tends to be a very controversial buy on matchdays and cup ties and that is the half-and-half scarf.

However for some reason, it feels right that the club are doing this. Not only will this continue to raise much needed cash for them, but it’s also a brilliant piece of souvenir for that occasion.

Marine are also offering Spurs season ticket holders free entry in the 2021/22 season to create a lasting bond between the two sides.

‘I am excited,’ said Mourinho on facing Marine at the beginning of December. ‘I learned to love the FA Cup as a kid. When I came to England I learned a lot about it too and experienced great things in that competition. It’s a beautiful thing for everyone and I look forward to it.

‘I hope there are good conditions in the stadium, in terms of safety-related to protocols. I would love to play in that small stadium, that’s for sure.

‘It means a lot for the home fans, the players and the coach.

‘The best way to respect them is to take the team, the players they want to play against. We are going to respect them. We are going to respect the competition.’
