Jamie Carragher slams Nottingham Forest’s explosive statement claiming “VAR is a Luton fan”

Jamie Carragher slams Nottingham Forest’s explosive statement claiming “VAR is a Luton fan” as yet more decision didn’t go their way.

Nottingham Forest were denied three penalties during their important Premier League fixture at Everton as Ashley Young was accused of kicking Giovanni Reyna, committing a handball in the box and fouling Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Astonishingly, in a post written on Twitter, Nottingham Forest took to accuse VAR Stuart Attwell of being a Luton fan.

Jamie Carragher came across this post and couldn’t believe what he was seeing, saying: “That is like a fan in the pub. That is embarrassing from Forest.

“The last line… what options? Are you going to stop playing?

“It tells you where we are with the PL and the clubs now. Attwell and Taylor have had an awful day today, and they should be criticised today, but what I’ve just read there is like a fan in a pub. That is embarrassing from Nottingham Forest.

“Rubbish: the VAR is a Luton fan? You can’t get involved in that. You have to show class as a football club. That is nonsense.”

Sky Sports’ Gary Neville: “I just want to comment on that Nottingham Forest statement. It is horrendous statement by that football club. It lets the proud history of that club down, and the inferred cheating, suggesting the official is a Luton Town fan, is absolutely ridiculous.”

“I don’t understand the reason and the decision of [referee] Anthony Taylor and VAR Stuart Attwell, because I see the images,” boss Nuno Espirito Santo told Sky Sports.

“What I can tell you is this is a general feeling that has been with us – we are trying to ignore it but so many times it is repeating, bad decisions against us, even taking things from us.

“It is hard to take. There is a penalty on Gio Reyna, it’s a kick, don’t tell me that is not contact. It’s a penalty, then a handball, then the situation of the incident with Callum.

“So it’s understandable that we react like this as a club because we want to get things right. We don’t want bad referees, we want good decisions.

“OK if we lost the game today and there were no incidents, we take it, we didn’t play good enough to win the match but we did things right in the right moments and we are disappointed with the decisions.”

Nuno added: “I am aware of the complaint that the club was not comfortable with the VAR but it is not important if he is a fan of another club.

“He is setting down in the chair, he has time to assess images. I just don’t understand why we are always on the end of these bad decisions.

“I share the feeling of the club because is it not only this game. It is has been a while that we have had poor decisions going against us. It is not an excuse but we are not happy with the work of the referees.”

John Murray (Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live): “Mark Clattenburg was once considered the best referee we had in this country. He has now got a role with Nottingham Forest, you would think he would be very much involved with this.

“So Nottingham Forest with that statement will be confident with what they are saying, but I still think it is a remarkable thing to say.

“The FA, Howard Webb and the PGMOL – it will certainly ruffle feathers from them.

“What they have to say about this is the next step.”

This is how fans reacted as Jamie Carragher slams Nottingham Forest’s explosive statement claiming “VAR is a Luton fan”…

@UtdJBT: More teams should do this the refereeing in the Premier League is disgraceful

@owen_bhafc: Siege mentality, I love it

@dandcfc14: Surely this slander warrants a point deduction and a massive fine?? #dcfc #nffc

@WilcoFtbl: Speak your truth and do it LOUDLY

@PaulMancs: Think I must be the only one that has no issue with this. We all moan about corruption well. I’m pleased to see #NFFC calling it out so publicly. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

@cfcyusaf: Accidentally tweeted on the wrong account admin

@CFCNewsReport: Official account calling out the officials. Weldone 👏

@afcalyssa: Had to triple check who tweeted this

@NeilF24: Are we right to question that VAR was a Luton fan? Yes. Are we right to feel that we should have had 1 or possibly 2 penalties? Yes. Is this the right way to go about it? Absolutely not. This is not a good look #NFFC

@_goatnelli: I thought this was a fan account for a second 😂😂

@NFFC_EPL: YES. Don’t stand for it. Sky will come out saying the club is a disgrace for this tweet. Carra, Neville the lot. NO the disgrace is a Luton fan making decisions in a game to benefit them. Would they have a Liverpool fan do VAR for a city game in a title run in? No #NFFC

@NUFCMurph: This will legit go down as one of the best tweets posted from an official football club account

@LFC_Elias: Crazy this is a real tweet, but ngl I like this. Sometimes the constant pr is way too robotic.

@diasnation: This is really embarrassing from an official account. Take the L and move on

@louorns: We’re one step closer to social media admins outright tweeting that Kevin Friend is a nonce and that shouldn’t be discouraged

@Panchero: Forest have won the most embarrassing club award in a league that features Sheffield United. Top work.

@rianmbfc: Might be the most embarrassing tweet of all time. There’s no agenda against you lads, you’re just shit.

@OfficialVizeh: How is this a real tweet by an actual professional football club seconds after full time? Fucking hell man

Utterly embarrassing.

@BigBearKentlaar: Some people are calling this embarrassing, but, why? Game after game, thousands of us complain about a decision in every single Premier League game. PGMOL are aware of how strong social media voices can be, now a club have used it to pretty much call them out for their mistakes. It’s about time it’s happened & I hope Forest get at least a clear message from the FA/PGMOL.

@talkbees_: What an absolutely horrendous football club. The entitlement is just astounding. Off you pop back to the Championship. You won’t be missed. 👋 #NFFC

@FansAgainstVAR_: VAR doing a fantastic job of eliminating controversy again. The pay off for it ruining the moment of scoring a goal was supposed to be correct decisions. But correct decisions are impossible because laws are subject to interpretation. SCRAP IT.
