James Collins tears up £50,000 Aston Villa contract just an hour after signing it

Reports have emerged that James Collins tore up a £50,000 contract with Aston Villa just hours after he had signed it.

He put pen to paper on a short-term deal which was going to be until the end of January, however when training later that morning, he had picked up a calf injury.

James Nursey of the Mirror then wrote that “The star, frustrated with himself, then trooped back inside Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training ground and tore up the paperwork.”

It now seems as though Collins has now terminated the deal and you could say is a blow for Villa’s defensive issues.

The former Villa player (between 2009 and 2012) left West Ham United back in June, but how the club handled it has been described as disgusting and disrespectful.

He had been informed that his contract won’t be renewed by email. The story was then backed up by @ExWHUemployee, who is generally regarded to have a decent track record when it comes to insider information at the club.

@ExWHUemployee wrote: “The rumours about James Collins are true. He received an email on Tuesday via Andrew Pincher with an attached letter confirming that he was to be released on a free. There was no mention of a testimonial either. Ginge is understandably gutted at the treatment.

Ever since the story of Collins tearing up his Villa contract came to light on social media, football fans gave their reaction with many praising him for doing the noble thing and not letting Villa pay for the ripped up contract that he signed – take a look at those tweets on the next page.
