Izzy Brown apologises after Sheffield Wednesday fans fume at footage

Izzy Brown apologises after Sheffield Wednesday fans fume at footage of him taking a bad corner with minutes remaining against Rotherham.

The 24 year old attacking midfielder has said sorry to the Owls supporters for the part he played in the Millers’ winner which came in the 97th minute.

The Chelsea loanee, was brought on as a late substitute in Wednesday night’s South Yorkshire derby at Hillsborough, however scuffed his corner to the near post as Sheffield Wednesday wanted to press hard for a second goal against the 10-man opposition.

The visitors manage to cleared the danger and broke away on the counter attack to snatch maximum points which will help them massively as they look to avoid the relegation zone thanks to a stunning strike from Freddie Ladapo.

Brown went top of the United Kingdom trends list on Twitter for what happened.

He posted on Twitter: “Hold my hands up, the corner was no where near good enough from me!! It hurts me as much as it does all of you, we have to move onto Saturday now & put things right.”

Wednesday managed to come back after falling behind to a bullet 17th minute header from Michael Smith, levelling things up through a Matt Olosunde own goal.

Ladapo however hit a right foot cracker which saw the Owls pick up a sixth Championship loss in their last seven matches.

Wednesday are now seven points from safety in the Championship table with 13 fixtures remaining.

But new manager Darren Moore still believes the team are capable of beating the drop.

“You have got to take your eyes off that (the gap at the bottom) really and approach it one game at a time and continue to try and take the points,” he said.

“The performance was good and the pleasing thing was we got the shapes right against the opposition.

“We got into the opposition box umpteen times. What we need to do is sharpen up in the final third and look to get a cleaner contact in the opposition box.

“There was something there for us to work on and keep that belief and with the games and points as it is we are still in with a shout.”

Fans reacted as Izzy Brown apologises after Sheffield Wednesday fans fume at footage…

@wiz1989: In Izzys words when he copped some social media earlier in year, “ judge us at the end of the season “- don’t worry Izzy we will

@Pukka1867: Fuckin embarrassing this

@AnOwl67: It makes my blood boil watching that. What is he thinking? Just put a good ball in to the box and Rotherham would have been worried, then he does that. #swfc

@harrietglaves1: Very strange. Literally think my 2 year old could take a better corner.

@ChrisVarley: Not suspicious just Izzy Brown, the exact reason he’s been passed around as a lower end championship sub for the past 5yrs. Chelsea made a big mistake offering him a contract and have just been recouping some money before binning him off #swfc #shite

@ltfckieren: This genuinely screams ‘match fixing’

@pads1996: An Izzy Brown corner has just relegated Sheffield Wednesday

@tollers82: What even is this?? #swfc

@AndyD_C: Nothing dodgy with it… just poor confidence. When corner is given no one went to take it, IB was in the box & they argued about who should take it. He reluctantly went over when no one else would. Sums the squad up… no one is confident enough to put there hand up & be counted

@MReidy1984: I’ve played football not very well and not at a very high standard for 25+ years and watched Wednesday for 30 years, I’ve never seen a corner taken with this bad or with this technique. Including them Darren Potter took. #Swfc #LeagueOne #laughingstock #vivachansiri

@JordanRUFC96: I didn’t realise how bad this corner actually was at the time, jhzee christ.

@_reecetew: Izzy Brown scuffing a 96th minute corner sums it all up

@VitalWednesday: Tonight’s corner was why 4 managers have not started Izzy Brown #swfc

@MollyShep: Izzy Brown wants not paying a week based on that corner kick alone. Everyone committed forward trying to win the game against 10 and he does that. Embarrassing.

@Haguey75: In years to come, there will be a #swfc podcast called ‘Izzy Brown’s Shit Corner’. And we’ll all ruefully chuckle at the memory of one of THE defining moments in our club’s history. One that confirmed our spiral into football obscurity.

@lynbob62: Who the actual fuck takes a corner like this. And hes paid to play.

@swfcsc: Fair play for apologising Izzy. But please don’t ever suggest it hurts you as much as us. We’ve had 20+ years of complete crap, and you’ll be back at Chelsea in the summer. It definitely doesn’t hurt you as much as it does us. Good luck for rest of season

@LifeIsPeachy82: I guarantee you something Izzy, it doesn’t hurt you anywhere near as much as it does us. Insulting that you would even say that.

@COwl1867: Fair play Izzy, good of you to come out and apologise! It wasn’t all your fault that they scored from it anyway. You looked really good against Luton so we know your abilities! We look league one bound now so just play freely and enjoy it, who knows what could happen.

@JTSHEEPS35: Fair play you least you’ve come out and took it on chin rather this 👍🏻

@johnada75157425: Ignore the abuse mate fair play coming on here fans just upset with the season as a whole ☹️

@Bennett4598_: A PLAYER FINALLY APOLOGISED! I take my hat off sir 👏 yes it was a poor corner but you owned up to it. Something not a single one of our players have done for 3 years. Now work your socks off to put things right. You’ve got the ability to do so, now show it. WAWAW 🦉

@jamesmappin: At the time I was fuming. I’ve calmed down now. Shit happens. That one moment didn’t lose us the game. We should have put the game to bed long before the 96th minute and should never have been in that position.

@sharonfowler69: Thank you for having the decency and respect for us as fans to say it. Not just down to you or that corner though. It’s a team effort over 90+ minutes and it pains me to say we are just not anywhere near good enough.
