Ivan Toney speaks on Gareth Southgate snub after netting twice in the impressive Brentford win at Man City on Saturday.
One of the two goals an injury-time winner, to give Brentford a memorable 2-1 victory at Manchester City.
The Bees captain delivered the perfect response to missing out on Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad for Qatar to stun the reigning champions.
Foden struck a wonderful volley in first-half injury time to level for the hosts, after Toney had deservedly headed in the opener in the 16th minute.
City, who missed the chance to move top of the Premier League, were frustrated by a number of poor chances, wasteful passing and resilient Brentford defending before Toney capped a statement performance by sensationally tapping in a 97th-minute winner.
What a stellar start for the Bees!!

Match-winner Ivan Toney speaking on BT Sport:
“Listen, the only thing is to keep doing well for the team. Obviously disappointed but I won’t let it put me down. I know what I’m capable of.
“The motivation is the boys in the dressing room and the fans, as you can see.
“They might be Man City, but they’re humans. Humans can lose games. I think we deserved the points in the end.”
Ben Mee added: “It’s a fantastic result, the lads dug in and we created lots of chances.
“It’s well deserved, we’ve lost a couple of goals late on, so it was nice to hold on.
“He’s [Toney] showed today what he’s about.
“We won headers and interceptions, dug in and did really well at the back.
“Sets us off in a good mood going into the break.”
“I won’t let it put me down, I’ll keep pushing with Brentford!”

Brentford manager Thomas Frank: “One of the most satisfying wins we’ve had, I think the play-off final will always be the one, getting us to the promised land. But, of course, it is up there.
“Speaking to some people from the club, this is probably the single biggest ever result, against one of the richest clubs in the world and we have one of the lowest budgets in the division. We’re just a bus stop in Hounslow.
“From my perspective, it was well deserved if you look at the chances. I think we eliminated them. I’m unbelievably proud. We’re missing four of our starters as well. Mind-blowing performance.”
On Ivan Toney: “Fantastic, I can’t praise him enough. How good a person he is, his emotional intelligence with his team-mates and everyone around the club. But also, what a player! What a striker! He scored two, probably should have score one more. A hat-trick here, I thought that was only for Haaland.”
On Brentford’s defending: “We spoke a lot about wow do we eliminate Haaland? We stopped the source into him and when it got into the box, we defended brilliantly.”
Twitter users reacted after Ivan Toney speaks on the snub from Gareth Southgate after netting twice in the Brentford win at Man City…]
@BarnettRosser: Wonder if he cashed out ?
@Justom29: Toney mugged Southgate right off
@MCMrLucas: Thank you Toney…that’s how to show Southgate he don’t know what he is doing. Now Arsenal, show me you have truly changed. Win today pleaseeeee. 5 points going into Xmas
@DeanHReilly1: What a result that is for Arsenal, Manchester City lose at home to Brentford Ivan Toney what a player. Southgate must be worried 😟 about his form Brentford made a statement today over to Arsenal tonight if they win I think they’ll win the league. #mancitybrentford #AFC
@Jack_Cotton08: Now seems even more ridiculous from Southgate not to take Toney to the World Cup
@mrbee4life1: Say what ppl who disrespect The Bees check this score out City 1-2 🐝 Toney with a double could have had a hat-trick so Southgate picks the form players where is our main Man who is on 🔥🔥 typical Wally just picking his favs 🙄😞
@SanjG93: Ivan Toney being left out of the World Cup squad is going to show just how bad Southgate. Especially with an injury prone Callum Wilson going instead
@OliKentt: what a win. Ben mee and Zanka kept haaland quiet all game. And toney was the best on the pitch.I hope southgate was watching 😂
@CityMannion: Very laxidasical today. Didnt deserve anything. Fair play to #BrentfordFC. They got what they deserved. Made it too easy for them and they grabbed their opportunities. That lineup would be good for PSG et al in the semi of #UCL but not for the #PL. Need more width and invention
@antzhumbleent: How do you respond to not getting called up for your national team, despite being on form? Get your head down, and put in a clutch performance to end #MCFC’s Etihad unbeaten run. Ivan Toney is supreme. England’s 2nd best no.9 by a country mile. #BrentfordFC
@blades2270: Please tell me why #Ivantoney is not going to the world Cup #englandsquad #BrentfordFC
@Billz_bfc: 100% the fa told southgate not to pick Toney over that investigation bullshit. What a player
@Lyncpfc: Southgate choosing players for the World Cup that haven’t even played 90 minutes this season but sat there and decided , ‘I’m leaving out Ivan Toney’ #England #baffling
@samldnnn: Look at the statement Ivan Toney just made against MAN CITY AWAY marks a serious player, Toney not going to the WC is a disgrace Southgate must pay for his crimes.
