Isaac Price held back from confronting away end after West Brom’s 3-0 defeat to Portsmouth

Isaac Price ended up being held back from confronting the away end after West Brom’s 3-0 defeat to Portsmouth on Saturday.

Goals from Conor Chaplin (20′), Millenic Alli (26′) and Ebou Adams (49′) sees Pompey climb up to 20th in the Championship and 4 points clear of the drop zone with some games in hand.

Eric Ramsay’s West Brom meanwhile lose for the 11th time in 12 away games and sit 21st with 32 points from 30 games played, with teams around them having a game or two in hand, and are just 3 points above the drop zone.

Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown (West Brom’s all-time leading goalscorer on BBC Radio WM): “You can’t defend the West Brom performance this afternoon as it was so poor.

“Portsmouth dominated the game from start to finish and we never had any spells of pressure normally in games you have spells where you put the opposition under pressure.

“We never really got out open in their box. Portsmouth won’t have an easier game all season. Today’s performance was alarming.”

Guy Whittingham (Former Portsmouth manager on BBC Radio Solent): “In the first five minutes or so you felt there might be a bit of a game on here. But as soon as Portsmouth scored their first goal West Brom just sank.

“You couldn’t really see the way in which West Brom wanted to play the game, and Portsmouth just took their chances when they got them.

“It was good to see Conor Chaplin get on the scoresheet down at the Fratton End, and the early goal in the second half killed off West Brom.”

West Brom’s Eric Ramsay told BBC Radio WM: “It was tough. We have to own the performance, take accountability and look inward as individuals and as collective. And we have to get better.

“I am concerned we didn’t handle what was an inevitable quick start – a team that really draws on the crowd. We set up in a way trying not to feed that momentum but we did the opposite and it affected the players and we need to deal with it better.

“I am disappointed we haven’t been able to move the group forward in the short space of time I have been here.

“There were some fundamentals missing for the first half that start to lead to the performance feeling short and that contributes to the levels of confidence.

“We have to address some of the basics in terms of competition of the second balls and that, as we regain possession, we are neat and tidy.”

Pompey boss John Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent: “It was the best performance of the season and an important result. I was really impressed with the first half. The second half was a different display but it was really professional.

“From the first minute we pinned them in and won the physical duels.

“The energy and quality was there. And putting those two together is something we have struggled with this season.

“The big thing that has been missing is putting the ball in the back of the net and getting into the final third and creating a bit more.

“But today we were relentless in terms of getting into the final third and creating chances.”

Twitter users gave their reaction after seeing Isaac Price being held back from confronting away end after West Brom’s 3-0 defeat to Portsmouth…

@heal1979: Its actually sad to watch this clip. What has gone wrong. Worst for 35 years of supporting us. 😢

@StephensM77WBA: I’d suggest they don’t do their warm ups in the corner by the BRE next week. They’re in prime position for pelters

@JDWBA2: Wheres the leaders/captain in this situation as well? Why is Dike the only one with any fuckin sense?? #wba

@ItsSamson2: That was an absolutely shameful display. Players don’t give a toss, they’ve got no heart. Ramsay – what on earth did you spend a weeks training on with this lot because there was no plan, just hoof and hope. If that’s all you have to offer then kindly get lost. #wba

@ots_09: so childish from price. he’s been awful and can’t handle it 😂😂

@talkwba: Take us down. We need a factory reset from top to bottom.

@Rondxnn: Ramsay out tonight. Nestor Out tonight. Absolutely destroying the club.

@stemciom: @shilensays time to put on your big boy pants and sack @AndrewMNestor and Ramsey, you absolute fucking clown

@_camwba: Unlucky lads, might’ve been different if we had any players with a set of bollocks. Onwards and downwards.

@ftbl_mouraa: Players not fit to wear the shirt. Manager not fit to steer us forward. Owners not fit for football. We are fucked.

@JackRansom4: Shambolic. Hiring Ramsay was a disgrace. Zero structure or quality. Players are still bad and have no grit, but they now also look fearful and lost. Only going to get worse 👎🏻

@JonW1995: It was embarrassing enough that we were in a relegation 6 pointer against Portsmouth, but to get absolutely thrashed is a whole new level. Why do we never get a new manager bounce? 🤦🏻‍♂️

@_andrewwww: I have seen some SHIT over the years, but it’s NEVER been this bad. No fight, no passion, no quality, no clue. The lack of effort alone is unforgivable. Everyone associated with this club should hang their hands in shame. What an absolute disaster of a year. 😥 @WBA #wba

@suttonbaggie: You’re not fit to wear the shirt! Ringing out #wba

@Rees_wba: It’s hard to see at this point if the owners have any sort of clue on what to do? Just because they stepped in and ‘saved’ us, using that term very loosely by the way. What else have they done apart from sell our best players and send us into a relegation battle? 😂 #WBA

@WBAoscar: We aren’t playing youth, we aren’t getting our most creative players into dangerous areas and we can’t even play a flat back ten. He hasn’t changed anything in four terrible games. Why will it change? #wba
