That is something that Southampton fans reminded Leeds fans of during the two sides’ meeting at Elland Road.

The race for automatic promotion, unlike any other witnessed before, went down to the wire. Throughout the season, players, managers, and supporters have poured their hearts and souls into their respective teams, resulting in a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
Leicester City, Ipswich Town, Leeds United, and Southampton have been the main contenders in this thrilling four-horse race for promotion.
Leicester already clinched the title and, after marking their immediate return to the top-flight away from the pitch, the Foxes picked up where they left off with the celebrations at Deepdale when they laid claim to the title.
For Ipswich, this term has all the makings of a fairy tale. Kieran McKenna put his trust in his unbreakable bond with his 2022/23 League One promotion-winning side and his faith has been repaid.
The Tractor Boys boss has already got his hands on an individual trophy after being named the Championship’s Manager of the Season, but now, got his hands on the big one.
A single point stood between McKenna’s men and Premier League football for the first time since 2002. And Portman Road was bouncing last weekend as Ipswich – who have spent more time in second spot than any other team over the course of the campaign – defeated Huddersfield Town. Few people gave them a chance at the start of the season and now, they’re on the brink.
Hot on their heels were Leeds, who had been looking to follow in Leicester’s footsteps and bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. Daniel Farke has transformed the Whites into a force to be reckoned with since his arrival in the summer and through the highs and lows, but lost to Southampton on the final day as Ipswich won.
Playoffs were already secured for the Saints who have made history this season. From record-breaking runs to statement wins, the Russell Martin project is well underway. His players have bought into his philosophy but he will be looking to take the Saints one step further.
But history has already been made this term in the Championship. The 1997/98 campaign was the last time three teams tallied 90 points or more in a single campaign and it has left people wondering, has this season been the most competitive the division has ever been?
The standards have been set, the bar has been raised and the Championship has certainly lived up to its billing as one of the most entertaining leagues in the world.
Meanwhile, the final two coveted playoffs places were battled out by Norwich, West Brom and Hull City, and it was the latter that missed out with defeat at Plymouth.
There was plenty to play for at reverse end of the table, with Sheffield Wednesday completing the great escape. After enduring their worst-ever start to a league campaign after 10 games, Danny Röhl rode in to save the day and the Owls have turned it around in style.
Blackburn Rovers relied on top scorer Sammie Szmodics to help fire them to safety, with 27 league goals to his name for the attacker, who has been finding the back of the net for fun.
As mentioned, Plymouth won too to avoid the drop. Joining Huddersfield and Rotherham in going down to League One is Birmingham, despite beating Norwich.

Twitter users had a good laugh after seeing Ipswich, Huddersfield, Leicester, Blackburn and Southampton fans sing about Leeds falling apart…
@DannyCannan: Good. Fuck em all absolute nothing clubs. Let’s have these play offs purely to shut all these cunts up
@Fransenior93: My grandma used to say if they are talking about you, they are leaving someone else alone.
@JuceeRob: I count 5 clubs singing about us this week… but apparently “nobody cares about Leeds”. 🤥🤥
@DarrenFagan91: An astonishing number of people despise Leeds United or what Leeds United stand for. But this club was never made for them.” @PhilHay_ still possibly the greatest line written about this club #LUFC #LeedsUnited
@j_mdm__: Everyone hates Leeds and it’s bloody lovely
@Bakke_the_net: Hated or adored, but never ignored. No-one likes us. And we don’t give a fuck
@OpulentCockney:
I like them. A lot.
And I’m West Ham
Guess I recognise a passionate, wonderful, fanbase.
Hope and pray they go up
@dzialowskimatt: And this is one of the reasons it’s harder for us than anyone else in that league. We’re everyone’s cup final.
@northernsmithy: We wouldn’t want it any other way 👏
@jaden_marshy: Everyone’s cup final
@danisawolf: I’ll die on this hill but a superb rendition of this ringing around the concourse hits like crack, nothing better; absolutely spine tingling
@JimmyHol84: As @PhilHay_ rightly said “An astonishing number of people despise Leeds United or what Leeds United stand for. But this club was never made for them.”
@JackCopley: Do these other teams not realise we love this kind of shit 😂 #LUFC
@retro_villa: Leeds have managed to unite the entire football fanbases against them somehow 😭
@hellsbelles92: Bloody hell how about @LCFC & @Rovers sing about there own club instead of fixating on us? 🤯 #lufc
@_lufcsam: Totally normal behaviour!
@woodend_c: I’ve seen #LUFC win the title, in Europe, win the Championship, get relegated, promoted, finals at Wembley, playoffs at Wembley & Cardiff etc. That’s football isn’t it? Win some, lose some. To me it’s all good banter and I’d much rather support a club that’s always relevant
@Patters1970: Hopefully Leeds go up, much bigger than Ipswich and Leicester….as a Geordie I would love them to go up, proper northern club with passionate fans 👏👏👏 PS when we play Leeds I hate them 😉
@jamesmcnair79: I’ll never ever tire of it. Couldn’t give a fuck what anyone else thinks. The crowd obsessed big club deserve every piece of misery in the world for eternity. The. Dirty. Bastards.
@lufcgrace: people like this will never understand that this doesn’t vex us in the slightest. I wouldn’t care if leeds were in league 2, I’d still be leeds, falling apart, or flying
@TFMick1892: I hope they get promoted ASAP – proper club, proper fans and love beating them.
@Jenksleeds: Their hate means they fear us! And that makes us love LUFC more MOT
@MJLUFC: We are just too big. Everyone so obsessed. We spend our time as a club trying to achieve things and grow, others sit and pray for our downfall and sing about us. We will never be the same, thank god. Mighty Leeds.
@wcelhatton: That they take the time to think about us says all I really need to know
@aclr1972: 😂😂 Imagine being so captured! Next season I’ll probably hear LCFC points deduction and then losing regularly (rarely watch 2nd ½ of MOTD). And I’ll only ever think of Blackburn on the day… if we happen to play them.😂😂
@kidcally92: We deserve stick as we give it out the Teams like Blackburn singing it after the season they have had is just embarrassing 🙈
@thombo1987: Hated, adored, never ignored.
@nickswin61: We don’t like being liked it’s fine by us – just very very tinpot of happy clappers to sing about it 👍
@LukeyyH: I love being hated, Some Leeds fans get far to rattled. Rent free baby ❤️
