Ipswich Town excite fans with ‘incredible business’ being done in the summer transfer window ahead of the 24/25 Premier League season.
In a significant development, Hull City’s 23 year old defender Jacob Greaves looks like to undergo a medical at Ipswich.
He has been a standout performer for the Tigers, and his calmness on the ball has made him a valuable asset.

Greaves joined their academy at just 8 years old, and his journey through the ranks culminated in signing his first professional contract in April 2019.
Since making his his debut in the senior team for Hull, Greaves has been a consistent presence at the heart of their defence, making 177 appearances for the club, plus a loan spell at Cheltenham Town during the 2019–20 season.
In the 2023/24 campaign, in which Hull finished 7th with 70 points, Greaves played in 43 league matches, contributing two goals and four assists.
He won a place in the Championship Team of the Season, and received a hat-trick of accolades at Hull City’s awards evening.
What can Greaves bring to Ipswich Town? He’s described as a versatile left-footed centre-back, who brings composure, aerial prowess, and excellent distribution skills to the backline.
Having secured promotion to the Premier League, Ipswich understand they need top-quality signings, and Greaves’ experience in the Championship and his potential for growth make him an attractive prospect.
On the 8th of July, talks between the clubs over the potential transfer of Jaden Philogene, who has 12 goals and produced six assists in 33 appearances across all competitions, continued.
As per The Athletic last week, Ipswich made a joint offer worth about £35million plus add-ons for Greaves and his Hull team-mate Philogene.
The day after, reports from The Athletic claimed that Everton then entered the race to sign Philogene with formal bid in region of £16m (+add-ons). But in the end he opted for a return to Aston Villa.
Paul Joyce of The Times added: “Everton have an agreement in place with Hull City for Jaden Philogene. Bid in the region of £16m made as per others. Everton believe the player wants to join them. Competition from other clubs but Everton positive.”
David Ornstein updated a few hours later: “Ipswich have £18m deal with Hull to sign Jaden Philogene. 5yr contract in place. 22yo currently set to pick #ITFC + do medical this week. #AVFC matching rights until Wed & ready to activate but respect player wish. #CPFC / #EFC still keen.”
Then on the 12th of July, Philogene’s returned to Aston Villa was confirmed after the club activated matching rights earlier this week. Deal worth £13m as Villa had 30% sell-on clause included in agreement with Hull City. Philogene signs five year deal, Emery wanted him back — medical and formal steps soon.
Philogene has also made four appearances and scored three goals for England’s Under-21s during the 2025 European Championship qualifiers.
So, Ipswich missed out,, but the Greaves medical is set for this weekend, £15m move agreed, so attention turns elsewhere.
Ipswich have already brought in Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea and Ben Johnson from West Ham United.
Another player linked is youngster Liam Delap from Manchester City, among their targets to strengthen their strike force.
The 21 year old is currently weighing up his options, has made three appearances for City’s first team and spent the last two seasons out on loan in the Championship at Stoke, Preston and Hull.
At Hull last season, Delap was a team-mate of defender Jacob Greaves and winger Jaden Philogene, two players Ipswich are in talks to sign this summer.
A day after this news emerged, it was then confirmed Ipswich have agreed a deal with Manchester City to sign Liam Delap.
Ipswich have agreed to pay an initial £15m for Delap, with £5m due in potential add-ons. #MCFC have a similar agreement with Southampton but Delap has chosen to join #ITFC.

A ‘secret dossier’ was apparently compiled by Ipswich as they look for signings ahead of their return to the 2024/25 season.
“Centre-half. Good size. Intelligent, good reading of the game. Composed and technically good. Athletic (good acceleration, agility). Aerial challenges.
“Left-back. Physically good (acceleration, agility, top speed and speed endurance). Able to run with the ball at good speed. Plays forward passes. Good delivery into the penalty area, including set-pieces. Defend 1 v 1 and back post.
“Right-wing. Physically excellent. Technically very good (first touch, passing in tight areas, running with the ball and 1 v 1). Contribute with goals and assists.
“Centre-midfield. Physically strong and a good size. Ability to get from box to box. Athletic. Composed and technically good (able to receive, pass and shoot).
“A ‘ten’. Physically good. Technically above the level. Forward runs. Contribute with goals and assists. Capable of pressing with intensity.”
As mentioned, Ipswich excite fans with ‘incredible business’ being done ahead of the 24/25 Premier League season…
@macallistarr: Ipswich Town signing Hutchinson, Greaves, Philogene AND maybe Bynoe-Gittens for under £100M is incredible business… That doesn’t even include Liam Delap on loan from City. They’re here to stay fr
@blues_pl: Bynoe-Gittens is likely an alternative to Philogene, not in addition to. And would likely be a loan. Delap is likely a permament.
@macallistarr: Either way McKenna and Ashworth are cooking, really excited to see how you do next. Definitely my favourites to survive 🤞
@false9fanatic: Feeling like Kieran McKenna wants his business done early to get a huge pre season in. I think we’ll have 3 through the door in the next couple days. Exciting #itfc
@ehimen_junior: Ipswich Town are going to get Greaves and Jaden for a combined fee of £35 million. Ipswich is doing some serious business in the transfer window.
@Iain_Taylor8: Heelllooooooooo 😍😍 Delap in there too, what a fucking window we’ve had so far! Couple of keepers, a top striker and maybe a solid CM with Prem experience and that’s a 100/10 window! #itfc
@keithcropper1: Ipswich are staying up I’m convinced. 2 brilliant signings so far and with the possible additions of these two and an excellent manager they look built for a really good season.
@Fawaz287: Ipswich my second club this coming season. Easily have the best chance of staying up
@Utd_Mas: This is unbelievable business from Ipswich, this is the kind of business that keeps you up, Greaves probably the best if not one of the top 3 CBs in the Championship last year & Philogene is just a wonderful player to watch, the freedom McKenna gives his FWDs will suit him
@DanLittle180: I wonder if this part of the fall out from sacking Rosenior? Still the wrong decision I firmly believe. #hcafc
@ITFCAnalytics: Liam Delap is an interesting signing – his scoring record wasn’t amazing last year & had two poor loan spells prior, but I think he can scale up well. Will suit our quick style of play & his ability to attack in transition will be made the most out of in the PL. In terms of his strengths: he’s an incredibly strong dribbler, good with both feet, a very powerful shot & has physical presence that will develop further. Not 100% sure on him as the number one striker, but he’ll provide great competition upfront & wide right for Burns. May mean that the chase for Ioannidis is off as they’re quite similar strikers… If that is the case, the next option upfront should be a target man. Would give us three different tactical options upfront whilst keeping main focus; physically strong & will press loads.
@IpswichInsight: After watching more Liam Delap footage, I wonder if the plan for Delap is RW competition for Burns, and 3rd choice striker. Delap has the base attributes McKenna wants from his right winger.
– Running power on/off ball
– Dribbling
– Physicality / aerial duels
