Ilkeston impress again by signing more former Premier League and Championship players

Ilkeston Town impress fans again by signing more former Premier League and Championship players ready for the 2022/23 season.

The club aren’t messing around as they heavily strengthen their side as they face a tough campaign in a new high level league.

The latest additions to the Derbyshire outfit are Ben Turner and Jamie Ward with no doubt more signings expected in the next few weeks.  

CLUB STATEMENTS:

We can confirm that we have secured the services of former Cardiff City and Burton Albion centre half Ben Turner.

The 33-year-old 6’4 defender will add a wealth of experience and leadership qualities for the 2022/23 season.

Martin Carruthers is delighted with the signing of Ben and said the following

“It’s another fantastic addition to what is an already talented squad, this being our last bit of business.

“A huge thank you to both Dave and Andy for working tirelessly since the season finished, giving us so many of the players that we asked for and more.

“The signing of Ben once again underlines the intent and willingness from the club to keep on developing and giving the amazing supporters the talented team that this club deserves.

“Ben is a hugely experienced and talented defender who will be a key player for us in the coming season.

“A big powerful defender who will give us steel and aggression in both boxes.

“Welcome Ben.”

Former Nottingham Forest and Derby County wide player Jamie Ward signs for the Robins.

The former Northern Ireland international joins us from newly-promoted Buxton FC.

Martin Carruthers said the following upon the signing.

“I am delighted that we have secured a huge signing in Jamie Ward.

“We have been following him for the past 2 seasons and it is an unbelievable coup for this football club.

“It’s a real statement of intent and to get him from Buxton after their own recent promotion shows how highly the club is currently thought of.

“Jamie has stacks of experience and his quality is unquestionable.

“I can’t wait to see him in action at the New Manor Ground.

“Welcome, Jamie.”

Meanwhile, Saul Deeney has made his stay at the Robins a permanent one after winning the NPL Midlands Division title.

Former Coalville Town goalkeeper Tomasz Bukowski who was a big part of their playoff push last season also extends his stay.

28-year-old right-back Kalern Thomas has joined the Robins.

The former Solihull Moors and Coalville Town right-back joins Martin Carruthers’ side as we move into the Southern Premier League Central for the 2022/23 season.
