‘I want Wolves out’ – Pundit launches furious rant after Europa League win

‘I want Wolves out’ – That is what one pundit for talkSPORT has said as he launches a furious rant after Thrusday night’s Europa League win.

A penalty from Raul Jimenez was enough for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to book their place in the Europa League quarter-finals for the first time in around 50 years.

He took his tally for the season to 27 with a coolly place spot-kick inside eight minutes after Olympiakos keeper Bobby Allain bundled Daniel Podence over in the area.

They had luck on their side though, with a marginal offside and VAR denying Mohamed Camara a first-half equaliser before Youssef El Arabi and Ahmed Hassan spurned chances to put Olympiakos level.

Player ratings

Wolves: Patricio (8), Boly (7), Coady (8), Saiss (7), Doherty (7), Moutinho (7), Neves (7), Jonny (6), Traore (6), Jimenez (8), Podence (7).

Subs: Vinagre (6), Jota (6), Dendoncker (6).

Olympiakos: Allain (4), Elabdellaoui (6), Ba (6), Cisse (6), Tsimikas (6), Guilherme (6), Camara (6), Bouchalakis (5), Masouras (5), Valbuena (6), El Arabi (7).

Subs: Fortounis (7), Randjelovic (6), Hassan (6), Cafu (n/a).

Man of the Match: Raul Jimenez.

It means that they have set up a clash against five time competition winners Sevilla on Tuesday night from the MSV-Arena, Duisburg in Germany.

Should the Premier League side win that, they will face either Manchester United or FC Copenhagen in the semi finals on the 17th of August from the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf.

Jason Cundy, a massive Chelsea fan, has come out and revealed that he is desperate for Wolves to slip up, with fears of what could happen if they qualify for the continent’s top tournament, the UEFA Champions League.

On his talkSPORT show, he said: “I’ve just ordered my Sevilla shirt for their next game…

“I don’t understand – and don’t take this personally Wolves fans – I don’t want Wolves winning the Europa League. It’s quite simple, it’s not difficult for me to explain this and it shouldn’t be hard for people to understand it.

“If Wolves were to win this European competition, it puts them in a very different position to threaten my club, Chelsea. They hold onto a lot of their player, they hold onto their manager.

“Not only that, it puts them in a position where they have deep pockets, not the deepest, but they can go out. Imagine what Wolves could look like if they were to win the Europa League and have Champions League football. I don’t want to see that happen at Wolves.

“As an Arsenal fan, you shouldn’t want to see it, they are a threat to the top-six. They didn’t quite make it last season, finishing seventh. Any Spurs fan shouldn’t want them, any Everton…any fan of a side in the Premier League that Wolves could overtake or threaten.

“My argument is quite simple, I want Wolves out of it! The sooner the better. As simple as that.”

Jimenez said after his side’s 2-1 aggregate win: “It feels amazing being in the quarter-finals. We’ve had a long journey to be here, but now we have to face it knowing that it will be difficult, but we are playing for something and we want it.

“It’s very big. After our first year in the Premier League we learned a lot, we achieved the Europa League, now this year, we made more points in the Premier League and now we’re in the quarter-finals, we want it more.

“We want to keep going, keep doing this as we know and keep going like this.

“It’s a long, long season. We started last year and now we are here, still with the same players, still with the same rhythm, now we try to achieve big things and we know that we can do it.

“Now we have to go to Germany, be focused on what’s coming and then think about the next game.

On scoring his 27th goal of the season, he added: “This goal means everything. It’s everything we were going through, for the whole season. Since the beginning we were training, we were working hard.

“We started the Europa League in the qualification rounds and have had a big, big season, but we have to keep going.”

Looking ahead to their next game, he told the club’s official site: “We know it’s going to be tough, it’s going to be difficult. We know that they are a good team and they play good, but we play as a team, as a group, as a family, like we were playing all the season.

“They are a very good team but I think we can achieve very good things, and we have very good players to face them.”
