‘I feel sick’ – Fans cringe after LA Galaxy unveil new chant for Billy Sharp

‘I feel sick’ – Fans have took to cringe after LA Galaxy unveil new chant for Billy Sharp as he adapts to new life in the MLS.

In one of the surprising moves of the summer transfer window, the former Sheffield United player decided to go stateside, having been released following the Blades promotion to the Premier League last season.

The 37-year-old forward, who netted 116 goals for them in 311 appearances, had offers from EFL clubs, but lost interest after he took to long to make his mind up.

So eventually he signed a contract until the end of the MLS season with LA Galaxy, with the option of extending for another.

And as expected has hit the ground running scoring twice in four appearances, his second coming in their recent 2-2 draw against St. Louis City, and Sharp also got a late equaliser to earn his new side a point.

After that game, his name was sung by the ‘LA Riot Squad’, he went over and applauded while holding up a scarf and a swig of some drink, and clearly enjoyed being serenaded.

We’re sorry for what you’re about to listen to, but here’s a video, doing the rounds, of LA Galaxy supporters chanting Billy Sharp’s name to the tune of Baby Shark.

LA Galaxy will next up play in El Trafico derby clash against neighbours LAFC in the hope they can chase down Austin FC for the final playoff spot.

The Galaxy currently are four points off the last qualification place, with eight games still to play of the regular season.

His new club said upon signing him: The LA Galaxy today announced that the club has signed English forward Billy Sharp through the end of the 2023 MLS season with a club option for 2024. Sharp, who will occupy an international roster slot, will be added to the Galaxy roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.

Sharp, 37, joins LA having recorded 266 goals and 75 assists in just over 690 appearances across 19 seasons played in the English football league system. In 377 appearances (254 starts) across all competitions with Sheffield United FC, Sharp recorded 129 goals and added 44 assists in 12 seasons (2004-05, 2007-09, 2015-23), playing a key role in the club winning English Football League One during the 2016-17 campaign and helping the Blades earn Premier League promotion in 2018-19. Notably, Sharp holds the record for the most goals scored in the English Football League Championship with 130 goals scored in 399 appearances in the Championship.

“Billy is an accomplished striker who brings experience, leadership and proven goal-scoring pedigree,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach and Sporting Director Greg Vanney. “We are pleased to add a player of Billy’s caliber to the team for the stretch run of the season.”

With Sheffield United, Sharp was the named the club’s Player of the Year twice (2015-16, 2016-17) and was named the League One Player of the Year (2006-07).

Sharp won the league’s Golden Boot with 30 goals scored and added eight assists in 46 appearances (44 starts) across 3,897 minutes played during the 2016-17 EFL League One campaign, helping the Blades gain promotion to the EFL Championship.
