‘I am going to be in trouble’ – Marco Silva seethes at officials after Fulham draw with Ipswich

‘I am going to be in trouble’ – Marco Silva seethes at the officials after Fulham draw 2-2 with Ipswich on Sunday afternoon.

Marco Silva expressed his frustration, stating he would face consequences if he commented on the officials’ performance in his post-match interview.

The match at Craven Cottage saw three penalties, with Raul Jimenez converting two and Liam Delap scoring one, resulting in Fulham losing ground in the race for European qualification.

Silva’s side came back from going behind twice, with Jimenez netting the second equaliser from the penalty spot in the 91st minute after being brought down in a congested penalty area by Leif Davis.

Fulham felt that Davis should have shown a red card in the first half for a foul on Harry Wilson as he attempted to advance towards goal.

However, the officials ruled that Fulham had not been deprived of a clear goalscoring opportunity, a decision that angered Silva.

He also took issue with the delay in awarding the first penalty to Fulham, which was granted after a VAR review determined that Sam Morsy had stepped on Wilson’s foot.

Fulham boss Marco Silva, speaking to Sky Sports: “It should be one man more. It’s difficult to understand why it was not a red card. It was a clear penalty – one of the biggest this season. I am going to be in trouble [if I talk about it] and I don’t want to be.

“It was a great performance by Raul Jimenez. He showed the character and the calmness. There are many positives I take from the game. In some moments we cannot concede like we did and we have been punished by some mistakes.

“Everybody can talk about European hopes. I prefer our team to speak on the pitch. If you want to be fighting you have to be much more ruthless and aggressive.”

Silva, speaking to MOTD: “It was a difficult game. It was a very good first 30 minutes from us but you cannot concede a goal that way. We should have done much better in that moment.

“Second half we changed. We made another mistake which gave them another penalty. If we keep doing this then it’s more difficult to win matches. We should have won the game because we did more than them. When on front foot we should have killed them in the right way.”

On whether Leif Davis should have been sent off in the first half: “It’s important to say discussions with the referee is normal. It’s difficult to understand why it wasn’t a red card. It’s just emotions, just normal.

“It’s my job to be as calm as I can.”

On Raul Jimenez’s late penalty: “He’s been doing that all his career. He’s our best penalty taker. He showed he is very good. The way he fought and made it hard for the defenders. He is in a really good moment.”

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna, speaking to Sky Sports: “When you lead twice you always feel a little bit disappointed not to win. I’m so proud of the way we played. We had some chances to get a two-goal margin but weren’t able to take them.

“It’s frustrating. Look, we look on today and the last game with a lot of pride in what we’re doing and we’ll keep on going.

“We had to defend a lot and I thought we managed the second half well. The players are right in it together and approaching the games in the right manner.

“I don’t know where we are exactly in the table. We’re just focusing on ourselves. We’ve got a little pause for the FA Cup and then we look forward to Brighton and Manchester City.”

On signing Ben Godfrey on loan: “We wanted to add to that area. Ben is a good player and an experienced player. That will be a good boost for us in the second half of the season.”

McKenna, speaking to MOTD: “There were lots of good things about the performance, a really good game and and one we could have won. I’m disappointed we have given away two penalties. We put ourselves in a really good position in the second half. The two penalties that we conceded were frustrating because they were both breakaways from our attacks.

“We had the better chances in the second half from open play. I think we have learned how to manage games. We’ve had a good last three performances – Arsenal, Chelsea and Fulham. We have been competitive most of the season. Today, maybe we have left a couple of points out there.”

Fans reacted as Marco Silva seethes at officials after Fulham draw with Ipswich…

@IDay38: Keep crying. The ref had a second look at it and still decided it wasn’t a red.
Funny how opposition managers and players chuck their rattles when they can’t beat Ipswich.

@oconnell_kev: Watch some of the L2 refs. Be grateful for what you’ve got

@WozzaJ74: Salty from a surprisingly bitter Marco after they were awarded two pens. Just be gracious, we were very competitive

@Little_lee82: Silva appeared to spend the whole game whinging at the 4th official. He’s probably right about the level of the ref, though, as he should definitely have booked Wilson for screaming in his face and calling him a cheat 🤷🏻‍♂️.

@SouthBankMatt: He’s right. Was an awful performance from the referee. Dreadful.

@Wigdog03: What ref is at premier league level? They are all useless and unaccountable for there mistakes

@jonesyall3: This bloke loves a moan as well 😂😂😂

@CfcCrookes: Stop moaning. There were covering defenders

@Mike_FFC: How are Ipswich fans on here complaining 🤦🏼 they got away with murder and point proven the fact the guy didn’t book Wilson or Lukic shows he’s clueless, we could of had 4 penalties in that game and he tried his best not to give one of the 2 clear ones 😂

@jablot218: He’s not championship level, terrible referee just guesses all the time ⚔️

@morpethhack: I’ve watched Darren Bond countless times in The Championship, and he’s not good enough for that level. Wilson’s reaction was a red card offence as well, though

@lagurn: 100% – clear red card, plus 2 blatent handballs missed

@tod1877: he’s not wrong, but he’s gonna get a fine and ban for saying it 🤷🏻‍♂️

@SeanyAV: Referee was at fault for Ipswich’s first goal? Regardless of the standard of the refs, action needs to be taken against Silva… and also Harry Wilson for calling ref a cheat But no doubt they’ll deem kicking a water bottle is a worse offence 👍

@DaveD92: Clear red card? He weren’t the last man. Wilson wouldn’t been through on goal had he progressed, so why the fuck is this cunt crying like a little bitch
