Hull fans taunt Millwall; Barry Bannan’s wife deletes Twitter account after backlash to tweet

Hull City fans cheekily taunt Millwall and Barry Bannan’s wife deletes her Twitter account after backlash to a tweet she posted.

The Tigers are off to Wembley, an impressive 2-0 win thanks to second-half goals from Mohamed Belloumi and Joe Gelhardt sees them become the first sixth-placed side to reach the Championship playoff final since Derby in 2019.

Those in the away end could be heard singing “No one hates you, no one cares”, as well as the familiar “Mauled by the Tigers” chant.

There is speculation that Barry Bannan, who is on a short-term contract with Millwall, could be making a return to Sheffield Wednesday following Millwall’s playoff defeat.

After Monday night’s playoff semi final second leg, Twitter user @benswfc15 wrote: “Search Bannan on twitter and it’s just a load of Blades and Derby fans calling him shite e3. 2-0 down because Doughty doesn’t close down his man and Cooper doesn’t kick it out. All Baz’s fault though #swfc

To which Barry’s wife Chloe Bannan responded: “Always Barry fault a good manager would help xxx”

@BuildsByKB wrote: “Wouldn’t be his fault here though Chloe •• Holiday over yet?”

Chloe replied: “🤞”

@MtotheNizzle: “Eh? Alex Neil has performed miracles!”

Others tweets of hers that caused a stir have since disappeared.

Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic said to Sky Sports, as per BBC Sport’s live blog:

“A great feeling and an amazing feeling, Millwall are very difficult and demanding – we knew they would start well and be a threat.”

“But we are going to Wembley.”

On if the subs and their impact has given him a selection headache for the final:

“There is no headache, from day one every player is important and has an impact.

“For Mo Belloumi he had injury and didn’t train, and we decided to spare him in the first half, and come on second half. But then Kyle Joseph came off so we had to bring him on early.”

“I have seen this all season they are a good group and stick together, the chemistry between the players – am very proud of these players. I told them to just dream, and every game we got better and better. This is my dream come true.

“I had great success as a coach, and this might be number one for me, with a lot of injuries, and this is the best thing that has happened in football in my life.”

Hull’s Lewie Coyle to Sky Sports:

“Incredible. It’s something we all believed we could do when we finalised the play-off spot on the last day in such dramatic fashion.

“And then we said, ‘why shouldn’t it be us?’ We’ve grafted all year to put ourselves in this position and it wasn’t just a case of us making up the play-offs.

“We fully believed going into the two legs against a very, very good Millwall side that we could come out on top.

“What a fantastic performance from the lads. So professional. We’ve got one more special game to go to achieve what everybody in that dressing room believes we can do.”

On Mo Belloumi: “He’s incredible. We are so lucky that we’ve got so many players that can come on and impact the game.

“We all know what that boy’s about. I’m so pleased for him.

“He’s had an incredibly tough injury but it says a lot about him and the recovery team that he’s come back as he has.”

Hull’s Oli McBurnie said to Sky Sports:

“Knew it was going to be a tough time over two legs.

“Mo’s [Belloumi] brilliant, he can be whatever he wants to be.

“It’s pretty typical of our season. Nobody fancied us last season and we’ve proved them wrong again.

“I think we can enjoy tonight. We’ve got a week and a half so we can have some enjoyment tonight and get back to it in a couple of days.”

Hull’s Joe Geldhardt to Sky Sports:

“I saw when I hit it I was waiting for the ball to go over the line. It was a great feeling to score.”

When asked if he was annoyed not be selected to start, Geldhart added:

“You can’t be mad at that manager, he has his plan. Every player wants to play but it is the manager’s decision and you have to prove that you have the right to play.

“It [The Den] is a tough place to come and can be a difficult place to come and get a result, but it shows the characters we have in dressing room, and 2-0 was good result.”

Millwall boss Alex Neil told Sky Sports:

“We didn’t get the first goal. I think the first goal was going to decide the game.

“10 minutes before half time I thought it was quite even. We sort of rolled the dice in terms of bringing on another striker and I don’t think we had any quality in the box.

“We conceded a goal within a minute [of making those changes] and then we started chasing our tail.

“The lads that come onto the pitch and the lads that start the game should be fit and ready so that [the time on the pitch] doesn’t come into it.

“We didn’t do well enough. We didn’t stick well enough. You’ve got to give credit to Hull, I think they defended well, but as an attacking force, we didn’t have enough in the 90 minutes.

“I don’t think right now, as raw as it is, is the time to think about what we didn’t do three weeks ago [not getting into automatics].

“You just as feel as if it’s a disappointment, I feel I’ve let people down and that’s my overriding emotion.”

Here’s the social media reaction after Hull fans taunt Millwall and Barry Bannan’s wife deletes her Twitter account after backlash to a tweet she posted…

@David_O_91: She’s her own person she can have an opinion cant she.

@NikkiJude: Chloe Bannan beefing Alex Neil is a delightful Tuesday morning tidbit I must say 🤣

@fergie1885 :To your 1st reply, he dont always get blamed, but if he makes mistakes (like tonight) then own it! Man of the match against Oxford, which he got by Alex putting him in his starting 11. Plus, the o.p said Blades and Derby fans, but YOU attack his current manager! Put the wine away ffs

@__1885_: Put the phone down love, we finished 3rd in the league for Christ sake

@LiamEric7: Just what Millwall fans need after they’ve lost possibly their biggest game in quarter of a century? Players wife taking digs at manager. Bet your fellas fuming with you. Not got an issue with him to be fair. Head would be on Mars if I were a Millwall fan losing that and then seeing her tweets when I got home.

@FG_utb2: How embarrassing 😂😂😂

@Ollieplaysfifal: genuinely everybody at millwall treated your family with nothing but respect. disgraceful.

@finswfc1: Chloe bannan well and truly rattling the entire Millwall fanbase tonight

@DaiSalthaus: I don’t think one Millwall fan will blame him for tonight’s loss. Yeah he wasn’t great when he came on, and yeah he didn’t have a lot to work with. Unusually sloppy with the ball. But as for @ChloeBannan …👀

@philclarke0170: I take it he’s leaving in the summer? It’s really disappointing to read these posts. As fans clearly we’ve no idea what goes on behind the scenes but the fans have really welcomed Barry to Millwall and I believe been very supportive. I hope things get sorted out. But it is also fair to say no one put a gun to his head to come to Millwall. I see you’ve deleted stuff now. Probably for the best but reality is it’s all over the place now with screenshots etc. and no doubt all bet picked up by the various channels. Hope your real holiday this summer is more enjoyable than your current one.
