Huddersfield fans take issue with Lee Grant’s post match interview after defeat to Cardiff

Huddersfield fans take issue with Lee Grant’s post match interview after a 3-2 defeat to Cardiff on Saturday afternoon.

Yousef Salech scored twice, with substitute Isaak Davies adding a fine curling third, before Huddersfield replied twice in the second half, through Leo Castledine and Joe Taylor. but couldn’t find a leveller.

Cardiff extended their run to four straight home wins and remain just one point clear of Bradford City, while Huddersfield stay 8th, two points outside the play-offs.

Huddersfield boss Lee Grant said: “Disappointing result – we’re frustrated because it’s a game where we score two really good goals, and we lose the game.

“We need to be better in the big moments defensively, and that’s us collectively, not just as a backline and our goalkeeper.

“We have to protect the goal better than what we are doing currently.

“For me, we concede too many goals right now. We need to take a step as a group, so we need to be able to have the belief internally that we can come to Cardiff, or go to Stockport, or Bolton, or play against a big side in Bradford, whatever it may be, we need to go and take the set to win one of these fixtures.

“We haven’t done that yet, and that’s my real frustration, because I thought today we were really well placed to go and do it.”

He added, per Yorkshire Post: “It’s the game we prepared for and they gave us and the game we expected. The frustrating thing from my perspective is we didn’t do better in the big moments.

“I feel as though the goals we conceded are really poor and that is the difference in the game, we have to be better with our individual defending.

“From front to back, I felt like in the first 10 to 15 minutes, we were too passive and allowed them too much of a foothold in the game and I really didn’t enjoy the level of respect we showed them and how far off we were.

“We found some moments we expected to see, where we regained the ball high and we go and cause our own threat, and those moments were there for us more so than I think what the group understood in that first stage of the game.

“So I’m frustrated because it was a game that was there for us.”

Cardiff’s Brian Barry-Murphy said: “I was really pleased with the performance.” Brian began. “I thought we controlled the game for long spells, created good chances, and were really pleased at the end with the reaction to conceding the second goal, seeing out the game in such a comfortable fashion.

“It’s a great day for us all. We had the ball for good periods, found our creative players in forward areas and scored some brilliant goals.

“I thought the subs coming on brought a freshness to the game. It allowed us to increase our intensity with the ball. We started to get the ball to Cian Ashford and Isaak Davies and gave them service. Cian looked dangerous, and obviously, Isaak had the final say in the game.”

On Salech: “Naturally, he’s dangerous in the box, and our players are aware of where he moves so that we can find him with good crosses. We saw that today, it was really evident.”

On Ashford: “It’s been a big period of the season for Cian. He was left out of the squad against Northampton, which was difficult for him, but he’s bounced back from that well.

“The things we’re asking him to do are very important for his game. He’s a dynamic player and really powerful. You see what you saw today, how he’ll create and score goals for fun.”

As mentioned, Huddersfield fans take issue with Lee Grant’s post match interview after defeat to Cardiff…

@BennetStone: Was he watching the same game? I thought we bossed the game and the scoreline flattered Hudds.

@ToddConnor9: You’ve conceded 3 goals again, what do you expect? Go learn your trade somewhere else, we don’t have the time or patience for it.

@exslb1: Week after week they’re not executing the plan. Either the plan is wrong, the person coming up with the plan is wrong or the people supposedly executing the plan are wrong. Or a combination of the above. As the leader it’s your job to fix and I genuinely don’t think you know how

@neilmurphy5: He said exactly the same thing after Bradford, ‘the game is exactly how we’d wanted it to be’. What are you talking about you clown?! If you know how a side is going to play why are you singularly unable to stop them playing in that fashion? Utter and completely nonsense

@HMSHTAFC: I would love to know what plan they were trying to execute – They looked like a group of guys who had never seen or played football before #htafc

@MartynHudson4: I am f**ked off with him constantly calling them a group. We should be a team. With the players he has if we were a team with purpose we would be up in the top three, as a group we’re a pile of shite.

@DanPage41632238: “The group is waiting to see if they are good enough”. He’s literally said that. bloke is an absolute joke

@marklawton1984: This interviewer is an absolute joke. The questions that should have been asked. Why did we change a winning team from Tuesday, we have no legs in midfield so why didn’t kasumu start? Both full backs were terrible with the goals, surely we need to stop letting crosses in.

@MickeyDN7: Fucking sick and tired of hearing the same kiss arse questions and Bulshit answers! Thank fuck this is my last season as a season card holder after 25years I’m done with this guy he’s not got it! #htafc

@Baldwin_Jack: How on earth is this bloke in a job. Should have been sacked after Wycombe. Seasons done imo

@TerrierNigel: This guy just isn’t the answer is he. He doesn’t even believe we can win owt. Defeatist loser mentality talking about big clubs. How pathetic. His time is up.

@lofty2021: Fully behind him, keep going Lee lad 👏🏼 @KevinNagleMLS keep the faith, he’s your man 👊🏼

@EthanHtafc: He looks beaten and broken to be fair to him. It’s not even on him anymore – Kevin needs to just do the right thing for both parties here. #htafc

@theterriersfan: Cant be arsed listening anymore icl
