Huddersfield ‘closing in’ on appointing ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager

Huddersfield Town are reportedly ‘closing in’ on appointing ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore according to reports.

Alan Nixon claims that the 49 year old has emerged ahead of other candidates as the man they want to replace Neil Warnock.

Warnock takes charge of Huddersfield Town for the final time on Wednesday evening when Stoke City make the trip to the John Smith’s Stadium.

After days of speculation surrounding his future, Warnock has confirmed he leave his role with assistant manager Ronnie Jepson also stepping away from the club alongside Warnock, who isn’t planning on retiring.

It is thought the Terriers want to have their new man in place for Monday’s televised trip to Coventry City with former Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore and Nathan Jones among the early favourites to replace Warnock, according to King Casino Bonus.

Moore hasn’t been managing been since leaving Hillsborough back in June after guided the Owls to promotion via the League One playoffs.

Meanwhile, and unsurprisingly, it did not go according to plan for Jones at his last club, being got rid of by then-Premier League side Southampton last February after recording just five wins from 14 matches at the helm.

A King Casino Bonus spokesperson said earlier this week: “Neil Warnock’s Huddersfield exit has created a shock opening at the Championship club and Darren Moore and Nathan Jones are the joint 7/2 favourites to return to work by taking the job at The John Smith’s Stadium.

“Paul Heckingbottom is next in the market at 11/2 amid reports that he may be replaced as Sheffield United manager, while highly-rated coach Leam Richardson is 6/1 and former Reading manager Paul Ince is 9/1 to return to the dugout.”

Twitter users reacted with Huddersfield reportedly ‘closing in’ on appointing ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore…

@IrelandTerriers: Darren Moore seems to me like a great guy and a very good coach too. In isolation, I think it’s a good fit for #htafc. However, when you add the context of the way the club framed getting rid of Warnock early, there’s a bit of a disconnect. It may be my incorrect reading of the situation of course! But it doesn’t strike me as the sort of appointment that is gonna send the club’s profile to the moon or blow the punter’s socks off with excitement

@Chrismarriott5: Looking at his stats as a manager, can’t really complain. 255 games played and 434 points. That’s 1.7 points a game. An average of 78 points a season. Considering some of that time was spent at West Brom in the Prem as well, we certainly wouldn’t get a UK man with better stats.

@VedCoxWil: It better not be Darren Moore that we are putting faith to a 3 year Premier League plan in and getting rid of @warnockofficial early for? @htafc?? Has the hierarchy got concussion?

@superterrier: We are all depressed as it is with @warnockofficial leaving but if Darren Moore is the replacement then we are all going to be suicidal @htafc

@ciaran_fraser05: Would not mind Darren Moore at all #UTT

@JEDilson_10: Huddersfield have sacked Warnock to bring in Darren Moore, oh dear.

@RedMoshMan_RTID: He likes a Yorkshire team does Darren 🐍 Moore.

@Cainl0we: Good appointment that for them tbf

@terrier1000: Replacing Warnock with Darren Moore could be the worst decision in the history of football 🤬🤬🤬

@sheriffwooler: No, No, No hope you are wrong

@wellbeaten1977: OMG the Wednesday Vs Huddersfield game next month will be so toxic if we don’t get a few wins first. On plus side Huddersfield will be easier to beat than if Warnock was there…

@CallumDenton8: Decent appointment that. Up the Town

@terrier1000: Replacing Warnock with Darren Moore could be the worst decision in the history of football 🤬🤬🤬

@b_2471: Very underwhelming 🥱

@meiercy: Brilliant appointment

@SimpsonsNffc: Good appointment for them

@e_swfc: Chansiri would like everyone to believe Huddersfield have payed millions for him #swfc

@HTAFC_Bazza: Don’t see anything wrong with this. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Good manager, did a great job with Sheff Wednesday and a likeable character. Wednesday fans seem to think the wages he demands are too high so will be interesting to see what he’s on here… 🤔 Get behind him. 👏🏻 #HTAFC | #EFL

@josh_wats09123: That’s a good appointment to be fair

@_JamieBrooke21: I’d take that #htafc

@scottnixon001: Well, this is underwhelming!!!
