Harry Maguire slammed for what he did hours after being sent off in horror defeat

Harry Maguire has been slammed by fans for what he did hours after being sent off in the horror defeat suffered at the hands of Watford.

It was a Premier League game to forget for the England international, getting himself sent off in the 69th minute, and was also mocked by an opposition player mid-game.

Man Utd’s discipline let them down again as Maguire dented any hopes of a comeback when shown a second yellow card for a late challenge on Tom Cleverley after being caught in possession.

The Sheffield-born defender vented his anger by ripping off his captain’s armband and throwing it directly at Bruno Fernandes, who looked on uncomfortably.

Meanwhile, Hornets striker Emmanuel Dennis took a shot at the Red Devils player, copying his much talked about celebration that ‘Slabhead’ had done on international break.

Dennis netted in an injury time goal to cap Watford’s rout – with the game being Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s last as his exit was confirmed on Sunday.

Maguire was criticised by Roy Keane after celebrating his goal against Albania by cupping his ears in a defiant message to his critics.

Dennis took the opportunity to poke fun at Maguire by copying his celebration late on at Vicarage Road.

Manchester United players and staff were reportedly crying in the dressing room following defeat to Watford.

It is understood some members of the United became overwhelmed, with a report from the Manchester Evening News claiming some were reduced to tears after the game.

David de Gea was sent to talk to the media, and looks shell shocked at what he had to witness, he conceded four goals yet was by far the best player for Man Utd, saving spot kicks in the process.

The keeper described the loss as “embarrassing” and “unacceptable”, and apologised to the club’s fans.

He added: “It was hard to watch the team playing like today. I think it’s a nightmare, after a nightmare, again, for a long time, so it’s not acceptable.

“The players are trying to give our best, to fight for the team but for sure something is very wrong.”

Harry Maguire was slammed as well as mocked by fans for what he did hours after being sent off in his side’s horror defeat…

What supporters don’t seem to realise is that Maguire was reportedly visiting a restaurant in Sheffield, having a birthday dinner with his Dad, making some of the criticism rather harsh some would say. Taking their frustration too deep?

As mentioned, Manchester United have sacked manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a statement has been issued following meetings.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Manchester United announces that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as manager.

Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.

Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as Manager and our very best wishes for the future. His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a Manager who gave us many great moments. He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family.

Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.

WHAT THE PUNDITS SAY:

Sky Sports’ Paul Merson: “This is the biggest club in the world but it’s three and a half years without a trophy. I’m not the manager’s biggest fan, but l am not liking what l am seeing from the players. It’s a hard one because they are going to Villarreal in midweek. But can you go to Villarreal without a manager?”

Tim Sherwood on Soccer Saturday: “This was a lesson in desire. Manchester United had no team. They were just a bunch of individuals thrown onto the pitch. Watford absolutely destroyed Manchester United. This is an embarrassing result for Manchester United. Nobody is scared of playing Man Utd anymore.”
