Growing list of clubs vote in favour of National League’s proposal

A growing list of clubs have chose to vote in favour of the National League‘s proposal on how to end the 2019/20 season.

The National League board put forward a plan last week and clubs were initially expecting to receive the paperwork on Friday and submit their votes by Monday.

However, sides were left puzzled and frustrated throughout the weekend before only receiving their voting papers on Monday night and now have until Wednesday at 5pm to have their say.

Well it’s revealed so far that FC Halifax Town, Notts County, Chesterfield and Boreham Wood, we’ll update if there are more throughout the day.

Chester will seek ‘a full breakdown of the financial commitments and operational requirements’ for participating in the National League North play-offs before committing to take part:

The delay in sending out the papers was based on whether the playoffs in the National League North and South divisions (step two) would be able to go ahead.

At first, it didn’t look like they could go at Step 2 level because it was not classed as ‘elite sport’ and therefore could not take place under the current government coronavirus guidelines

However, the National League has put the possibility of playing out those playoffs back on the table as long as can do so “legally possible.”

The National League wants there to be the same number of teams (24) in the division next season, meaning the number of clubs relegated from the fifth tier this campaign will depend on what happens with relegation from League Two and the play-offs at step two, as summed up by Derbyshire Times.

If clubs vote FOR the National League’s proposal, the table will be based on unweighted points per game (PPG).

It would mean that, the champion clubs will be promoted, that’s Barrow, King’s Lynn and Wealdstone.

Then the winners of the North and South playoffs if they are able to take place under governance guidance.

One other promotions and relegations have taken place, the National League will then relegate the amount of teams to keep the number at 24 teams.

All 24 teams in the National League get one vote each while teams in the North division share four votes as do those in the South (32 votes in total).

The proposal must get a total of 17 votes to pass.
