Grimsby fan LITERALLY gets dragged out of stadium as fans goad each other at Chesterfield

A Grimsby fan LITERALLY gets dragged out of a stadium as fans goad each other at Chesterfield on and off the pitch on Saturday afternoon.

The Mariners boosted their National League playoff hopes as they came from behind to seal a 4-1 win against third-placed Chesterfield.

Despite suffering an injury crisis that saw eight first team regulars ruled out, the Spireites still broke the deadlock when Lawrence Maguire headed home after six minutes.

However Paul Hurst’s men responded in style with John McAtee getting the equaliser from 25 yards on 27 minutes before Gavan Holohan buried his ball in the back of the net four minutes later to put Grimsby in front.

The Lincolnshire outfit managed to hold the upper-hand, and extended their lead not long before the interval when Harry Clifton’s header got his sixth of the season.

Manny Oyeleke smashed against the woodwork for Chesterfield in the second half but Grimsby wrapped up a season’s best performance in style as Ryan Taylor score his side’s fourth with 12 minutes remaining.

There was plenty of mocking in the stands, “1-0 up and you f**ked it up” was sung from the away end with Grimsby in control.

By the 29th minute, a third Grimsby fan had been escorted away by the police after running on the pitch to celebrate.

Grimsby boss Paul Hurst spoke to the media: “Beforehand, we came with the intention to win the game. We don’t go into games trying to get a draw.

“At 4-1, if you’d given me that before the game, everyone would have been delighted. I thought we played very well today.

“They had spells, you don’t have it your own way. At the same time, we were worthy winners. We looked a threat, we played good football and should have scored an excellent team goal when we missed from so close.

“Although it was very early you think ‘is it going to be one of those days’. John then strikes, he’s shot a lot from distance recently and hasn’t gone close but when you see them go in you don’t want to discourage it.

“Gav, to get his first goal, we brought him in to score goals which he’s done at this level. It probably topped John’s in fairness and gave us the advantage.

“We scored some good goals and if that doesn’t give the players confidence, I don’t know what will. This week in training they have been excellent and that includes the ones that weren’t on the bench.

“They help set the standards, you don’t always get that but I felt they were ready to put on a performance.”

Chesterfield’s Paul Cook said: “We were absolutely miles off it in terms of the performance.

“I can’t say we capitulated because that is a ridiculous statement but we gave up the game very easily.

“To lack contact all over the pitch and aggression and not winning individual battles was alarming. That is probably the first time I have seen that in the Chesterfield team since I have been here.

“Grimsby have played ever so well today, they have had a really strong performance and they have left us licking our wounds and we have got to be better.

“Us managers are supposed to come in and give you all the answers but sometimes you just don’t know do you. One thing I do know is that if you give people time and space on a football pitch they will hurt you and we got hurt today due to giving time and space.

“We want to have contact and engage all over the pitch and be competitive but that was certainly not the case for us today.

“For us it is a really disappointing day. We have to go away, train harder and want to get better.

“At the minute we are probably not scoring enough goals that we all crave. We have missed a couple of big chances today and we have also hit the post.

“But I am not one for making excuses, we were second best today.

“We got what we deserved, not probably in terms of the scoreline but certainly the result.

“Today, in my opinion, we did not work hard enough to get where we want to be.

“We started well, scored a goal, but we didn’t earn the right to do anything after that.”

Twitter users reacted as a Grimsby fan LITERALLY gets dragged out of the stadium and fans goad each other at Chesterfield…

@MrPaulBrunton: Lovely touch towards the end when the crappy pyro was thrown onto the pitch.

@lukeohara5: Hope he’s banned for life. Idiot. Go crazy, drink, sing, dance. But stay in the stand ffs. Idiot. Good ridence. I do wonder how people like him manage to get tickets!

@chrisjs1982: Still don’t get why any football fan goes out the way to be a bell end and miss the game great win tho

@fcwhufc: This is why football is the greatest sport of all time

@Ericsrighthook: Making memories with the family

@LancsIron: Where is the due care from those stewards… And why is that minor just being left to do as he pleases? Seems some big issues around stewarding if games and how things should be dealt with. There is no justifiable reason to drag him like that.

@sean_esq55: Listen son, when we get home not a word to your mother, I mean it.

@MattWWoolwich: Heavy-handed stewarding but to get chucked out of a game being dragged out you have to have been acting like a massive twat. What a div, missing a great away win and embarrassing his kid.

@cfandango78: Not sure what went on, but the steward physically pulled him by his top, dragged him over the advertising hoardings and then continued to drag him once he’d pulled him over 🤷🏼‍♂️

@Garswoodlatic: What is wrong with people?

@jaymiz64: Making the wanker gesture at someone has to be the wettest thing ever. A. It’s vulgar, and B. You’ve achieved f all by making that gesture.Literally done it because your dense brain couldn’t come up with anything better.

@Stig1991: British football fans > every other form of man

@merioj10: Nothing like some father and son bonding at the football.

@Mowgs100: Imagine thats your dad 😭😭😭

@MC_1894: Nah you cant drag a fella about like a mop 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
