‘Get him gone’ – Frustrated Swansea fans demand change after a crumbling 3-1 defeat to Stoke on Saturday afternoon.
Manager Luke Williams is at the centre of criticism, with supporters expressing anger over his tactical decisions and leadership, leading to calls for his dismissal.
While the board’s decisions on squad composition have also come under review, the immediate focus is on Williams’ ability to steer the team away from further decline with the sentiment among the fanbase is clear: urgent change is needed to salvage the season.
The result sees Swansea sitting two points better off in 17th in the Championship table, with the pressure growing on Luke Williams and his side having seen seven defeats in their last nine league matches.
Stoke manager Mark Robins, per BBC Sport:
“It was a huge win. I think we had played really well, limited them to one shot on goal before we contrived to give them their first goal.
“What transpired after that was nothing short of phenomenal. The fact that we have taken everything on board… We have got the ball in the box with quality, we have got ourselves into good positions and we have taken those chances.
“What happened after that was absolutely magic. I don’t know if anybody here will have seen a goal like that [from Lewis Baker], or anywhere really. I think that’s further than David Beckham’s one.
“As soon it left his foot I looked at the goalkeeper and thought that’s got a chance. It’s absolutely outstanding – the vision to see it and to execute it. That’s goal of the season for me. Lewis Baker, take a bow son.”
Robins, per Sky Sports:
“It was out of this world. It is one of the best goals this stadium will have ever seen.
“It should be all over the world’s televisions tonight because it was magnificent; not only to have the vision, but also to have the technique to execute it.
“There are not many who can do it. David Beckham and now Lewis Baker. Happy days.
“The keeper wasn’t that far out, but he hit it that hard the ball was over his head before he knew it. It was an incredible goal.
“It is euphoric and you are privileged to see something like that when you are in a stadium.”
Swansea head coach Luke Williams:
“There was absolutely no need to come away with nothing. We just made terrible decisions after we took the lead, giving away cheap free-kicks and then not marking people in the box from the delivery.
“It’s nearly impossible to get beaten 3-1 when you score that first late in the game.
“OK the third goal is a wonder goal. If we’d conceded that to go 1-1 we’d have had to take it, but we were already out of the game because we conceded two goals from set-pieces that didn’t need to happen.
“We were away from home. We dominated almost every aspect of the game and scored first. It’s ridiculous to then get anxious or something and give away cheap free-kicks, then compound that by not defending the box properly.”
Williams, per Sky Sports:
“Statistically, in football, it is nearly impossible to lose the game 3-1 when you score first at that point in the game. But we found a way.
“From having a very decent first half of season, we have completely wasted this second half so far.
“We are eight points away from the bottom, but we need to get the job done so we can start building for next season quite honestly.
“This is nowhere near a good enough group to have a good season in the Championship. They have proven that.”
‘Get him gone’ – Swansea fans demand change after the 3-1 defeat to Stoke…
@CapnWelshpool: Banners at the ready for the next game. Fan forum needs to be brutal!
@swanspassion: Put the poor sod out of his misery. Carmarthen Town are looking for a new man next season genuinely that’s his level.
@jamieskoffa99: Throws the players under the bus, as per. You are the manager, you have to take responsibility and show leadership from the sidelines
@Liam003: Agree with most of that. Although nothing said about how toothless and sluggish we are going forward. I hope he gripped a few in that changing room after . Defending like that isn’t acceptable that includes giving needless free kicks away.
@therealJH679: Had the ref and the lino on your side and still lost.
@Ianmarsh89: Unbelievable take on so many levels. Has he no responsibility as manager? This in house questioning and providing the answer for him is a shambles as well. How anyone can claim that was anywhere near a good performance, even at 0-1 is beyond. Standards are through the floor. Subs today were criminal at 2-1 down. LW has proven on multiple occasions he is massively out of his depth. He needs his P45 and the coaching staff needs a shake up asap! We’ve far from a great squad, but it is a lot better than this, game has been absolutely coached out of them!
@DI93_: Can’t bring myself to listen to this crap anymore. The most pathetic interviewing, feeble questioning, just two people feeling sorry for each other week in week out. Enough is enough.
@JoeyIsSwansea: That effectively means we’re not signing any of the available free agents then. “The group you have now is the group you’re likely to have until the end of the season” – it’s a fucking disgrace. Been sold down the river AGAIN
@philharding1975: You are by far the worst team i’ve seen down here in my life, smallest club in wales. Forever in Cardiffs shadow.
@AlexAshburner: LW fate was sealed after that dreadful January transfer window. There’s not much he can do with this squad, but even as an optimistic fan, I am unsure if LW is capable at this level.
@gareththomas05: Williams out! Awful from start to finish. I do feel like we are going down this season. #swans #SwanseaCity
@WillHughes_11: Enough is enough now. Club is rotten from top to bottom. From Coleman’s incompetence to Williams amateur management to the poor squad we have we are in a right mess. Worst thing is I don’t think either know how much trouble we are truly in. I am scared… #Colemanout #Williamsout
@welshgaryevans: The forum Tuesday is going to hold us back. Williams is clueless and needs to go tonight. Why are we waiting?
@dickiebow81: Luke Williams is totally out of his depth. Time to go or we are getting relegated @SwansOfficial
@RyanDark96: Genuinely getting to a point where I don’t want to watch us play. I’m missing next Saturdays game and to be honest, if I was around I would have waited to see the starting line up to decide whether to go down or not. Our squad isn’t great but Luke Williams is setting them up to fail and hanging players out to dry. He has to go imo, he is well and truly out of his depth in this league. I would love to be proved wrong because I just want to see us play good football and have a clear game plan but I just don’t see that happening under Luke Williams.
@Morgan_will1999: Luke Williams has to go tonight simple as that since the West Brom saga the players haven’t been the same. This slow possession style we continue to play hasn’t worked for 4 seasons now. The Swansea way is long gone, get him out before it’s too late.
