Genius Twitter thread emerges of the best English football moments and more in 2022

A genius Twitter thread emerges of the best moments to come from English football in 2022, and if you need a laugh, this should help.

HLTCO wrote via their social media account on the 20th of December: “2022 has been a pretty horrible year for many people, given the cost of living, a constant sense of uncertainty and the possibility of global destruction thanks to Nuclear War, so here’s a thread of my favourite moments from Twitter over the last 12 months to spread some cheer.”

Dan Cook is the man who runs the Crystal Palace-focused Twitter account and records daily podcasts on both Crystal Palace and football across Europe from Monday to Friday, something which is often posted about on the socail media account.

The YouTube channel for HLTCO, (Hopkin Looking To Curl One…) has just been launched, left the admin overwhelmed by the response to it, and say they will offer their takes on the hot topics which are dominating the headlines across football from day to day.

HLTCO record two daily podcasts over on Patreon, one dedicated based on Crystal Palace and the other covering football across the UK & Europe, delivered straight to your inbox by 8:30am (find the link below).

5. David Moyes booted a ball at a ball boy out of frustration when West Ham took on Frankfurt. His reasoning? “It was nicely on the volley for me.”

6. It’s not football related in the slightest but Mike Graham telling a guest on his show that you can “grow concrete” is simply too good not to include in this thread.

7. Roman Yaremchuck was subbed on for Benfica and given the captain’s armband before receiving a standing ovation from the fans in support of both him and his home nation of Ukraine.

8. It’s a personal favourite but Michael Olise providing an assist for Palace’s winner at Millwall and receiving bundles of abuse whilst standing in front of the crowd with a finger to his lips was simply perfect.

9. The Queen’s passing brought the country to a standstill, leaving “Diamond Geezer Dave” with the chance to offer Liz his own heartfelt tribute.

10. FC Koln manager Steffen Baumgart tested positive for COVID and was forced to watch his team from home. The resulting video footage of him in his living room did not disappoint.

11. Aleksandar Mitrovic and Serbia did their country proud at the World Cup in Qatar, he received a hero’s welcome back in the country when attending a basketball game.

14. Roy Keane spent a large slice of the World Cup ripping into players for over-celebrating but it didn’t stop the ITV man from whipping off his shirt after scoring a last-gasp winner in a Crew vs Crew game out in Qatar.

15. This Benzema strike has to be up there with the most aesthetically pleasing goals of 2022. Just look at the shape on it. Oooof.

16. Jarrod Bowen had a real purple patch of form, prompting Hammers fan Danny Dyer to send a congratulatory Instagram post to him, referencing the West Ham fans’ song involving Jarrod and Dyer’s daughter Dani.

17. Ibrahima Konate enjoyed Liverpool’s League Cup triumph so much, he nearly choked on some confetti as the Reds were completing their trophy lift.

19. Mark Noble decided to hang up his boots, prompting West Ham to follow him back to his childhood home, where he bumped into some old neighbours.

The bloke’s reaction to one question in particular about Noble was priceless.

20. Crystal Palace do bundles of work in the local community, this particular clip where they invited a group of youngsters down to the training ground is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

21. Viewers to Sky Sports were left wondering if Alan Smith had considered risking it all when doing a live link to camera at The Emirates.

22. Stuttgart scored a 92nd minute winner to secure their status in the Bundesliga for another year. The scenes that accompanied the goal were predictably joyous.

23. Swansea’s Michael Obafemi had all sorts of trouble when trying to complete a post-match interview pitch-side. When the giggles get you, there’s no escape.

26. Arsenal took a 1-0 lead away at Watford, prompting this particular to completely lose control of his hair in the away end celebrations.

27. Young Tottenham fan Ryley Keys was born with cerebral palsy and told he wouldn’t be able to walk, in May he scored a goal in front of a stand packed with Spurs fans, getting a huge cheer in the process.

28. Laura Woods is well known for not pulling punches on social media; this particular exchange was an absolute belter.

29. Blackpool used their own players to launch their new home kit, the acting on show from trio was Oscar-worthy.

30. The Wimbledon Final saw Nick Kyrgios take centre stage. This conversation with the umpire saw him take aim at one particular spectator.

“The one who looks like she’s had 700 drinks, bro.”
