Gateshead impress fans with new kit and signing ex-Newcastle player

Gateshead have managed to impress their fans with a new unique looking home kit, and confirm the signing of an ex-Newcastle United player.

On Wednesday afternoon, the former Premier League striker/winger Adam Campbell has signed with the Heed Army for the new upcoming campaign.

He played in the English top flight for the Magpies, as well as in the Scottish Premiership for St Mirren, in the Football League with numerous clubs, and in the National League North for Darlington. He also represented England at under-16, under-17 and under-19 levels.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Gateshead Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Adam Campbell, subject to FA ratification.

The forward has penned a deal on Tyneside until the end of the 2021/22 season in what will be his second spell with the club.

The 26-year-old originally joined on loan from Newcastle United in January 2015, scoring three goals in eight National League appearances.

Campbell has made over 100 appearances in the Football League with Notts County, Morecambe & Carlisle United and most recently spent two seasons at Darlington where he scored 22 goals in 60 appearances.

β€œIt’s a good feeling, it’s something me and the manager have spoken about for quite a while now,” said Campbell.

β€œIt’s nice to finally have it sorted and obviously coming to a club like Gateshead and being back training full-time is massive.

β€œIt’s just the right fit for me, playing central and being part of a smaller squad that is looking to go far and do big things in the league.”
