Gary Neville tries to troll Leeds fans after Salford draw them in Carabao Cup – but it backfires

The big fixture release day happened yesterday and it’s fair to say Football League newcomers Salford City stole much of the talk on social media.

Not only did their first game of the League Two season against Stevenage get picked by Sky Sports, causing many Twitter users to vent out their frustrating, some much so that Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony also tweeted about the tv selection.

He said: Hey EFL that’s a little too obvious putting Salford on TV straight off the bat. Could have waited till 2nd or 3rd round of fixtures ??

Well later on in the day, just after 7pm to be precise, the Carabao Cup draw was made, and Salford City were drawn a home tie with Leeds United, who had 22 Sky Sports selections last season, again leading to fans reckoning it was a fixed or rigged but also mock the tv company’s love in with the Whites.

Salford co-owner and Man Utd Class of 92 member Gary Neville immediately tweeted on his side being handed the draw and reminisced to the days he last played Leeds being trying to troll them.

He tweeted: “Welcome back into my life Leeds United . Not seen you for 15 years”, though fans quickly took to suggest he was conveniently forgetting he was part of the Manchester United team that lost to the Whites in FA Cup in 2010.

It’s fair to say it wouldn’t be surprising if there will be a heavy police presence and trouble ended up happening on the night.

The game will no doubt be on tv along with AFC Wimbledon’s clash with rivals Milton Keynes Dons, which produced much noise inside Morrisons in Colindale last night.

After Gary Neville made the tweet, fans took to remind him as well as mock his attempt at trolling – find out what they had to say on the next page.
