Gary Neville screams in delight as he watched Salford City score in the 95th and 96th minute to seal a late comeback win at AFC Wimbledon.
Callum Hendry’s stoppage-time double completed a spectacular Salford fight back that beat AFC Wimbledon in a thrilling League Two match at Plough Lane.
Hendry had a penalty saved by Nathan Broome in the 92nd minute. It looked like his side would go on to lose, but Hendry scored twice to win a crucial victory in their fight for promotion.
Hendry scored his first goal in injury time in the fifth minute, calmly slotted past Broome following Ibou Touray’s pass. The 200 travelling fans were delighted when Salford climb into the play-offs.
Wimbledon led the game for a large part of the match after scoring first with Kasey McAteer’s brilliant strike from the outside of the box after seven minute.
They then took the lead again shortly after Ali Al Hamdi’s strong volley in the second half.
Conor McAleny took advantage of Broome’s calamitous failure to communicate with his defenders, levelling the scores.
Al Hamdi’s effort seemed to be the winner, until Hendry’s double snatched victory for Salford.

Salford boss Neil Wood said post-match: “Difficult to sum up, you know, I think the last couple of minutes are just when you get their moments in football. You have to you have to enjoy them, there’s no doubt about that.
“We enjoyed celebrating that. I think the fans, the fans enjoy celebrating that, you know, and an unbelievable moment to go from missing a penalty on what 92nd minute, missing the penalty to winning by the 97th minute, that doesn’t happen often.
“But I think we have to enjoy it. We have to be realistic as well. We’ve still got improvements to make, we still got things that we can work on to get better. But, yeah, we have to take this moment and enjoy the three points there.
“Good reaction from Friday, puts us back into the top seven, important I think sometimes you just hit that vital point where something just clicks and I’m hoping this can be one of them moments for us that just kicks us on.I think the lad showed unbelievable character just to keep going in the game
“.It would have been easy to just give up after the penalty miss, I thought. You see, the stadium was rocking for them, but the home fans, they thought at that point they’d really won the game and credit to the lads here, they kept going, they just kept believing, they kept putting the pressure on and you get a little bit of luck that comes into it as well. But fair play to him. It’s an important three points for us and going back home to back to back home games now
“We do create that same. We need to build on it. If we can take it into our hands, if we can string some wins together, I’m pretty confident we’re going to be in the mix around it and hopefully a playoff spot at the minimum. But we’ve got to make sure we do it.
“We’ve got a job to do, we’ve got to turn up, we’ve got to be brave to play, we’ve got to be better at both ends of the pitch and I’m positive we can do it. We’ll keep working on that on the training ground, we’ll keep plugging away that. And as much as we enjoy today, we’ve got to take it to the next game. We’ve got some big games coming up and we’ve got to make sure that we perform in those.”
Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson was almost lost for words, saying: “I’m gutted to not win the game let alone lose it. It’s incomprehensible after the way that we played for the best part of 94 minutes. We’ve thrown it away. It’s hard to explain.
“The players have to take responsibility. You’ve got to see the job through. In the space of a minute the game has flipped on its head. We have to man up. We know what happens if we don’t take our chances because its happened before. It’s the same old story.
“I’m delighted for Kasey but it should be a goal as part of a winning performance. There’s a lot of positives that can be taken from large elements of the game but we’re walking away with nothing.”

“We’ve thrown it away. It’s hard to explain.”

This is how fans reacted as Gary Neville screams in delight while Salford score in the 95th and 96th minute to seal a comeback win…
@Brandon_1884: I think everyone at St Johnstone knew he’d gone on and be a star player at any team he moved to, only upwards for his career now. Top player
@TheAmmiesZone: Ngl that was my reaction on the bus 😂🦁
@The_Gerrard_Era: Owns a local football club but sits at home to watch the games. Everything that’s wrong with football. 😔
@SalCityFC: It’s an Easter miracle! Salford rise from the dead!
@tedkinsella1: I’ll never understand the urge of recording yourself celebrating a “natural” reaction
@liam_dawson0151: Can’t even go to the game to support the team you own? 🤔
@Mandandaisgoat: the scottish sniper 😍
@CjsWorx: Is this the same man who bullied someone for having two teams 👀👀👀
@KevinMozza: I’m a St.Johnstone fan and always knew he was the real deal keep hold of him as long as you can…. player
@FrancisDowling3: Nothing is natural anymore is it 🤮
@BroughtonM7: No words here 🦁❤️
@kylesmi62080644: You’ve just beaten AFC Wimbledon who have only won 1 game in 15 and your celebrating like that. You pump money into a club and have fans who have the average age of about 13.
@Imcareyy: Quick get the phone out and record myself
@JBG_1878: “Hang on a sec love pass my phone there a sec while I film meself screaming at me phone like I’m actually assed “
@LJA_53: Cannot believe it up the ammies
@broncoskolar: We do love a late win!
@SalfCity_Nat: UP THE AMMIES ❤️❤️
@leestelfox: @AFCWimbledon now have to listen to @GNev2 doing this when the game was in our hands! We bottled it. This is not the AFC form years gone by, there is no connection, no fight and no desire!
@kuluthegoat: and the 22 away fans go crazy!!!
@DavaDave1884: Wonderful player, very special talent! 👏
