Gabby Agbonlahor quickly deletes a tweet he posted after being left rather embarrassed at what Newcastle did to Aston Villa on Saturday.
A brace from Callum Wilson either side of half time followed by second half strikes from Joelinton and Miguel Almiron saw Newcastle comfortable claim another important three points to make it a third straight Premier League win.
Ahead of the match, Agbonlahor tweeted: “Come on Villa, nothing to fear against Newcastle! Let’s go!”
He then wrote at 3:45pm: “Ffs trust me to have to work at 5.30pm after this 😭😭😭”
As it turned out, Aston Villa was left fearing they could have conceded so many more goals at St James’ Park Newcastle as they suffered their heaviest defeat of the season so far.
This came jus weeks after Gabby Agbonlahor made another dig at Newcastle United, saying he couldn’t consider themselves to be a big Premier League club.
One year on from the club’s huge takeover deal from a consortium led by PIF along with PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, the Magpies went up another level.
Ambitions of European football don’t seem too ambitious based on the current trajectory of the club.
According to the ex-Aston Villa man, Agbonlahor, there’s still work to do for Newcastle to be considered one of the Premier League elite despite their huge wealth.
Responding to Jamie O’Hara’s comments that Newcastle are a ‘huge’ football club, Agbonlahor couldn’t resist biting back.
He said: “When you say huge football club, in what way?
“I’m just saying, that haven’t won a Premier League title. Are you saying in terms of fanbase?
“I think that they’ve got an amazing fanbase. They’ve turned St James’ Park into a fortress and some top players are playing for them, but I wouldn’t call them a big club.”
It’s not the first time Agbonlahor has taken aim at the Magpies, claiming last year that players would rather join Brentford than live in Newcastle.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Players will go there for the money, let’s be honest.
“When I was playing in the Premier League, Newcastle was the place where you wasn’t sure. I didn’t want to go, it’s far up north, the weather.
“Players want to be close to London, closer to London was the attraction. If you offered a player £40,000-a-week at Newcastle, or £30,000-a-week at Brentford, they would go to Brentford even on less money.
“Players don’t want to live in Newcastle. They’re going to want clauses in their contracts if they go down they can leave for this amount of money.”
On his show after the game against Aston Villa, he has now suddenly taken to praising Newcastle and suggests St James’ Park is a fortress, you do not want to play there and that Newcastle are in with a shout of top four.

Man of the match: Callum Wilson
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe told Sky Sports:
“It was very bitty first half, stop-start, we never got into a rhythm really because the game didn’t allow us to do it.
“We were outstanding in the second half, up there with one of the best performances of the season, free-flowing football, attacking football and a great performance.
“I’m really pleased for Callum, the second goal was a typical goalscorer’s goal and penalties are never easy. He was at the heart of a lot of our good play today.
“It was an outstanding finish from Almiron, he used the defender’s body to curl it round the goalkeeper, it was a pinpoint goal.
“You want the supporters to enjoy the moment and they will. They were outstanding today, they really did help us, and I hope they enjoy tonight and express themselves. For me and the players, we just need to be more controlled and look to next week.”
Aston Villa caretaker manager Aaron Danks told Sky Sports:
“It’s really disappointing today. The first half was an even contest, we created some chances and they had some moments as well.
“The penalty gave them some belief, and we had to go in and find a way of attacking the second half. We tried to tweak one or two things, but they had a really good spell of momentum where they punished us.
“There’s lots of sombre heads in the dressing room, so there’s nothing we can do but pick ourselves up and get ready for next week.
“I’ll always look back as the goals as a coach, they’ve scored a fantastic finish from distance, but you look at the distances between our team and think we’re a bit too open there.
“Of course, there’s things we could’ve done better – but you come to a place like St James’ Park, a team that’s flying, you know some of the game they’ll have momentum and you just have to find a way to stay in the game, but unfortunately it got away from us.”
The defeat leaves Villa 15th in the Premier League table with three wins from their opening 13 games.
