Fresh ‘kick in the teeth’ for Man Utd fans as ticket prices surge by more than 50%

A fresh ‘kick in the teeth’ for Man Utd fans as ticket prices surge by more than 50%, as per a statement by the club’s Supporters Trust.

They have criticised the club’s new “Match Categorisation Model” for members’ match tickets for the upcoming season, with the model significantly increasing ticket prices for around 20,000 seats per home game, with prices ranging from £32-£52 for cup fixtures (Cat D) to £59-£97 for six Premier League games (Cat A).

The cheapest tickets for most league games will rise by over 50%. The Trust argues that the club ignored their suggestion to maintain current price levels for most matches and apply higher prices only to major games.

They also claim the club failed to consult fan representatives, undermining its commitment to fan representation.

The Trust warns that the price hikes could alienate regular supporters, deter younger fans, and harm the atmosphere at Old Trafford, especially after last season’s poor performance.

MAN UTD STATEMENT:

In parallel with the release of the Premier League fixtures for 2025/26 season, Manchester United has announced its match-by-match member ticket prices for the upcoming campaign at Old Trafford.

All concessions for junior and senior fans will remain in place, and, for the first time, matches will be priced according to the category of the fixture, bringing Manchester United into line with most other Premier League clubs.

There will be three categories of pricing for Premier League games (category A, B and C), and a fourth (category D) for some cup games, reflecting the varying levels of demand for different games.

Match categorisation will only apply to match-by-match tickets for members and not to season ticket holders.

The result of the pricing model for this season means that the average cost of a general admission match ticket (season tickets and match by match members tickets) will be £46.51 vs £41.41 for the 2024/25 campaign.

Ticket categories are listed below:

– Cat D: £32 – £52 (cup fixtures only)
– Cat C: £37 – £60 (2 x PL fixtures)
– Cat B: £57 – £86 (11 x PL fixtures)
– Cat A: £59 – £97 (6 x PL fixtures)

Less than 1% of tickets will be priced at highest Cat A price point of £97.

MUST STATEMENT:

The Manchester United Supporters Trust has responded to the announcement from the Club of its new “Match Categorisation Model” which will apply to Members match tickets for next season by describing it as a “fresh kick in the teeth for United fans.”

Under the model the price of around 20,000 tickets per home game will be as follows:

Cat D: £32 – £52 (cup fixtures only)

Cat C: £37 – £60 (2 x PL fixtures)

Cat B: £57 – £86 (11 x PL fixtures)

Cat A: £59 – £97 (6 x PL fixtures)

This means that, for almost all league games, the price of the cheapest ticket rises by more than 50%.

A spokesperson for the Trust commented:

“After how last season went, we might have hoped the Club would reconsider their plans for this new ticketing model which will see eye-watering price increases for 20,000 supporters per game who buy tickets on a match-by-match basis. This really is a fresh kick in the teeth for Manchester United fans.

“When the Club said they were introducing this new model for Members tickets, we urged them to keep the majority of matches at current levels and only apply the highest price category for a small number of the biggest games, and reduced prices for lower demand games. Once again, they have failed to consult any of the fans representative bodies on the details of the decision, and once again they’re making choices against the interests of fans and, we believe, the Club as a whole.

“The Club’s stated commitment to fan representation is fine in principle, but once again is not being delivered in practice. The structure is in place, and the Fans Forum and FAB representatives are doing their job, but the Club are not adhering to their previous commitment to proper consultation and that needs to change and change fast.

“What Manchester United needs next season is a united fanbase and Club, with the team on the pitch supported by loyal and vocal fans roaring it back after the disaster that was last year. These ticketing decisions only push those regular supporters away in favour of occasional visitors and risk pricing out the next generation of younger fans who are the very future of the Club. This Match Categorisation model will do enormous harm and undermine the atmosphere in the ground in a season when the team will need it more than ever.”

THE 1958 STATEMENT:

“Like we warned and predicted some time ago the creeping shadow of dynamic pricing is now one step closer at our club and with it, yet another slap in the face for loyal fans. It wont be long before members are exploited even further on the likes of Ticketmaster.

“Football is consuming itself. It will implode and owners are exploiting loyal fans in their quest to squeeze more profits whilst destroying generational loyalty and football communities.

“The match going fans being hit hard by Sir Jim and his team to try and recover from 20 years of Glazer greed.

“Membership prices are going up again, forcing supporters to pay more for less, while the club keeps silent on how Season Ticket holders will be stung for cup games.

“Dialogue with the club is broken, ignored, or treated with contempt. Fans raise genuine concerns; the club responds with spin and price hikes. Profit comes first. Supporters — the lifeblood of this club — come last.

“This is yet ANOTHER example of “meaningful” dialogue with our club falling on deaf ears.”

Twitter users reacted to the fresh ‘kick in the teeth’ for Man Utd fans as ticket prices surge by more than 50%…

@RickyFoley: Great. They were £56 2 seasons ago & since INEOS have take over the quality has gone down and prices gone up. I was disappointed they cancelled our Cup Season tickets this year as not in Europe, I was looking forward 2 renewing for 4th year in a row. Those PL prices are 2 high.

@Busbyx3: Absolute embarrassment of a supporters club! While Liverpool and City supporters clubs go for there owners jugular! Ours puts out meaningless Twitter posts! There not for the fans our you MUST! You want to be in bed with the club for personal gain!

@MCFCfoodbank: Horrendous. These prices are in line with ours in recent seasons, until the club finally listened to fans. We will stand side by side with MUFC groups like @The__1958, @TraMufc & @MU_ST if they wish to oppose this, just as we did last season 🤝 #StopExploitingLoyalty

@SamBuckley_: Membership fees up. Membership ticket prices up. Man United, and the rest of the premier league need to be careful what they wish for. A lot have already turned away, and more will, non-league football attendances are up year on year. This is not America, people won’t pay.

@barneyrednews: Putting the ‘Manchester back into Manchester United’… or is that putting the Fulham prices into Manchester United…

@PL2NL: Categorisation of tickets. Get in the bin. You pay to watch the some side. Not who were playing. We could play city, Liverpool, Leyton orient or chesterfield. You should pay the same. You pay to watch your team. Not who were playing

@NOELY1982:
They’ll be marches again
They won’t work
But it’ll look good online
We stayed out the stands
It looked dreadful
We got the usual emptihad gags
It work we got the prices fixed

@johnhar72230498: Why don’t you join forces with @The__1958? Work together with other fan groups, then the people at the top MAY just listen? Rather than complain on here get together as a fanbase we can be heard. It’s Not rocket Science ffs!!!

@SimonCa7713r: Really, what a joke, you lot are. No real resistance to the club over the years, buckled from day 1. How people take you seriously is comical. Maybe you should do another fund raise for the cause.

@MUFSeeAlerts: You lot are a disgrace. You’ve completely abandoned match-going members. Where’s the transparency? What exactly have you done to lobby the club on this? What concrete proposals did you put forward? That statement is just hot air. The horse has already bolted — and you stood by and watched it gallop off. @MUSTChair @MU_ST

@SibsMUFC: Thats the next step. Sign a deal with one of those third party websites which stick extra fees on. Other clubs have already done it. Non league clubs in Greater Manchester are going to pick up a few more fans I reckon.

@bops1973: Do you know what! As much as I admire your dedication to the cause, I feel the game as we knew it has already gone, and nobody can do anything to change it sadly. Football is nothing but a money factory for greedy people the same as most things in life are in today’s world.

@Mikec81united: So if I sold my ticket back to the club. I would get 32 quid and the club would earn minimum of 5 quid per ticket and for most games 20 quid!!!! This is ticket touting!!!! How the hell are the club getting away with it

@Amanda_77_Panda:
State of this club now 🤬
Driving away even more of its working class support
Supporters trust as much use as a 🍫 🫖
Very angry, very sad 😢

@savlarr73: Fuck sakes. Working class sport my ass

@wackydog70: Absolutely destroying football for working class families. Cluelessly allowed to get away with this pure greed #mufc #manutd #GlazersOut
